I agree but when we seem to shoot so many jumpers and they don't drop it just makes you think we need some scoring in the paint, and Blake doesn't always provide it. So I can see why someone might think about DJ's O.

How many championship teams rely solely their outside shots falling or shot blocking? The Spurs, Miami, Boston? Three blocks represents at best 6 pts. Assume each shot has 50% chance of falling. That's 3 points if he blocked nothing. The idea of shot blockers being intimidating in the paint is misleading. It's guys who can alter a shot blocked or not.Three blocks or two made FG's 4 vs 3

. In a previous post I said we shouldn't seek open looks. I meant that our TOTAL offense shouldn't be based on attempting to get open looks for jumpers. That's what's been happening. Of course we should try to get them.

DJ already has a baby hook, that he can shoot with either hand.

Yeah, he does at that. It's just weather Doc wants him to use it or not. The thing is DJ gets stripped a bit easily.

So that beats Duds' 32.1 3pt% this season I guess. Very Happy

You do realize that the Spurs, Miami, OKC Thunder are all extremely reliant on the 3 ball right? As for the shot blocking argument. You are right shot blocking is not a great indicator of defense BUT that is not the point. A great shot blocker is an intimidating presence at the rim. The actual impact is much greater than a couple of blocked shots. For example opponents shoot at 30s% at the rim when Hibbert is on the floor.

Its a terrible idea because

1) DJ is TO prone.

2) DJ's offensive game isn't developed to that extent yet.

3) People can simply hack him.

We'll see how far that gets him...Even excuses have expiration dates. Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_08

Yep, when he's all healed up there won't be any excuses....and I hope he shows the talents he had previous to this injury and why he "needed" an excuse Smile

Assume each shot has a 50% chance of going in with no block. For each blocked shot it's 50% of two pts or one pt per blocked shot. Pulled the number 50% from my shorts but it's generous

The Spurs' weapons are Ginobli slashing to the basket and Parker doing the same using his speed. Since Parker can beat most off the dribble the defense has to collapse because his tear drop is deadly. He doesn't have to kick to a three point shooter. He can kick to his screener assuming SAS is playing P&R. Duncan has never been a three point shooter. Rondo is a slasher and Pierce can get to the rim. KG is not a three point shooter. No reliance on threes. OKC has yet to win a ring.

We have nobody who can pull a Magettee or a Ginobli and we need that even more than DJ scoring

There is an old joke

A guy was standing on the corner and had concert tickets but was lost. He asked a passerby. "How do you get to Carnegie Hall"? Answer- " PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE".

Success is based on experience and experience comes from f*cking up in every conceivable way. In order to learn how not to get stripped you have to get stripped - a lot. He'll get hacked but he'll also score. In order to learn how not to turn it over you have to make a lot of turn overs. Bottom line is that if this can happen it will give us a huge advantage in the PO's, an advantage that we now lack.

Speaking of slashers we really miss Bledsoe but he needed to move on. Reddik for EB wasn't a bad deal

"He'll get hacked but he'll also score". Sadly at 39.8% FT, DJ getting hacked is bad offense for the team. If he could make 55% FT, then it's actually pretty good. Also the Clippers aren't a developing team, they are a team trying to contend, so they aren't in the position to allow DJ to be playing through mistakes while trying to become a better offensive player because they need to win games.

The team does need a slasher. Paul is the best perimeter slasher on the team, and he isn't really a "slasher". Green isn't bad, but he doesn't play that much and that still isn't a primary attribute, and while Crawford can get to the basket, we won't mistake him for a slasher.

In reality stepping back my question was how do we stop relying on jump shots especially threes. I got tunnel vision with Jordan. Jamal shot only 0.273 from three in the PO's last yr. His 2 pt % was however 0.45 but long shots equal long less controllable rebounds too.

Jump shots are great when they're falling especially threes but they don't fall a lot and shooters can have slumps. Ginnobli predictably wreaks havoc, Parker predictably wreaks havoc.

Pulled some Magettee numbers. 0.453 fg% 0.324 3 pt. He could reliably give you around 18ppg in his uninjured prime. He's going to score get fouled or stripped but it's not as capricious as a jump shot especially a three. He got more points on fouls that FG's some years. Discussions about Dudley while significant don't address the problem. Blake gets doubled early and he kicks to a three point shooter who's in a slump? All of our three point shooters are in a slump. All of our shooters are in a slump?

Ginnobli or my man Maggs would take it to the rack for the "EEEEZY DEUCE" to quote Stewed Lantz. Three games in a row is like three strikes. It should tell us something. It's like your wife and two teenaged daughters getting PMS three successive days. The answer to all of the above - A full bodied Cabernet. I'm getting more comfortable with Hollins but it's gonna be hard winning with what we've got. I would gladly take Corey now if he were in shape and could stay healthy (fat chance) over Dudley

Speaking of three strikes I once had my Argentinian girlfriend, her Argentinian mother and her Italian grandmother staying with me. I alternated between an Argentinian red and Chianti. Unfortunately I emptied the bottles too quickly so I grabbed the dog (much to his grateful relief) and split.
