We can see the toll it takes on Barnes having to be the lone tough guy on this squad. When he tweeted "I'm DONE standing up for these n####s!" You can tell his bank account was taking a hit from being the sole enforcer. Plus, Barnes' contributions have been exceptional since he's been with the Clipps, so now he's more than just an enforcer. We are really hurt when he's out of the game for a suspension

Hopefully Jackson can be another goon we can have protect our guys

Jackson does also like his money, actually most guys do, and his contract is peanuts right now. I think they sort of cross the line between being "tough guys" and being volatile. Of course I think tough guys are really overrated in terms of the actual value they bring to teams. You aren't too worried about tough guys if you're just talented enough to keep winning games. It's sort of the fake pacifier to the struggles of a team.

Still, hopefully their toughness doesn't mean technical's because the team can't afford to give away free points.

I'd argue that that is actually the primary and main positive.

No one really wants to see hobbled Dudley out there attempting to not suck at basketball.

^^^ Exactly. If we can allow Dudley time on the bench to heal and regain his Phoenix Suns form, we'll be looking good when he comes back.

I would have preferred Pietrus, but Jackson's not bad. He's a nice veteran pick up. I would use the "he's a champion" argument for Jackson, but I learned with Odom and Billups that being a champion doesn't mean much when the guy just doesn't have much left in the tank. I hope this is the case with Jackson and he can contribute to this team.

I love the contrast in the two videos between when he was still on a team making his money and when he got cut before the playoffs and didn't get picked up. Went from I haven't touched a basketball all off-season and never work in the off-season to doing 2 a days 5 times day. The power of desperation. Hopefully that motivation means he's actually going to come in productive because he was certainly on a pretty bad downward spiral.

Stephen A Smith was downright excited about us picking up Jackson. He called it a "big time" pick up, especially for his post season play and overall toughness. He says he will bring much needed toughness to the team. Although Stephen A has even started to talk about how Blake has shown more toughness this season. With Skip Bayless (shock of all) nodding in agreement.

The Los Angeles Clippers announced today that they have signed free agent forward Stephen Jackson. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Jackson, 35, joins the Clippers after spending the 2012-13 season with San Antonio, where he averaged 6.2 points 2.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 19.5 minutes per game in 55 games for the Spurs.

Good pick for a spot we needed to fill. Short term I think this is good for us, interested to see how it plays out in the long run though....if we keep him long term maybe he can bring some playoff intensity for us when it comes time

Did he have to pick #1? That number has been pretty terrible to us. *cough* Baron *cough* *cough* Chauncey *cough*

Does he look chubbier around the face, or is it just me? Lets just hope he comes out and does his thing (Golden State days) Plus he looks like a older Reggie Bullock, right?

^ He does look a little pudgy in the face. That's not good. Hopefully it's just an unflattering camera angle.

I'm going to go ahead and say he doesn't look pudgy. Look at the pic I posted where he is signing the contract. He has a prominent, strong jawline. he looks pretty svelte from a side view.

This sounds/looks eerily like the Odom "sightings" last year at the Press Day fest. We soon see.

Well camera angle or not. We will see what kind of shape he has kept himself in once the game starts. My wife and I are budgeting, but tonights game is a special occasion to order Prime Ticket and see Captain Jack. My hope is that he can provide a spark and keep us competitive until our back court is healthy.

Man 'O man, reading some of these posts I'm getting the impression a large percentage of folks are hating on Duds.

Look, absent the CHI game am I happy with the way he has played? NO

Do I think he misses a lot of open looks? YES

Am I happy he is a Clipper? YES

I'm fully convinced he will be the turnaround story of 2014, just wait and see.

As for the signing, I personally think its good for various reasons;

*Gritty hard nosed player

*Only player in the locker room with a ring

*Not afraid to mix it up on the floor

*Mentally tough

Now mind you, he is not the swift and agile defender of years ago. However, I think defense by and large is not one on one. If Doc can't get us playing "TEAM" defense were screwed. I'm looking forward to having him aboard and allowing extra time for Duds,JJ,MB & RB to get 100% healthy and not risk further injury.

Still pissed about that loss to the CAVS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think most people hating on Dudley right now including me would agree with what you are saying.

Most of us know Dudley is going to get it together probably sometime before the all-star break.

But as of right now he can't do Dudley-squat.

jerdogthompson, you have to acknowledge that this fan hate on him isn't without merit though. Fans are patrons, or clients in a way. We pay for a product, basketball. If this product is subpar would you call it wonderful? The burden is on Dudley to prove he's a good basketball player, and so far he hasn't done it.

Most people who are hating on Jared don't even acknowledge or give him the benefit of the doubt he's trying to play to his NBA career average while playing on a injured knee. He needs to sit and rest it but.....oh well.

I think if we had the coverage at the 3 spot it would be very wise to sit Dudley for a bit just to get him healthy.. He really is struggling..

Didn't get to watch the whole game, so I missed out on most of Jackson's debut. But how did he do? Saw that he went 0-3 from 3pt, but that's not surprising. How was the rest of his game?

He didn't get to touch the ball much which was fine. He moved okay- pretty much just another body out there. Hopefully he can make a bucket or two tomorrow.

^Thanks, guys. Yeah, I figure there's just a lot of rust with such a quick turnaround. I don't expect his shot to come back in the near future, but I'm hoping his defense catches up soon, since that's what we really need him for.

I thought Jackson played pretty solid D when he was in. He might just a tad bit off but that'll come around once he gets a few games in.

Jax is gonna come around and contribute a little bit but I don't think we can rest Duds until Barnes can put some goggles on and get on the floor. Maybe if Reggie gets back soon and can run we could rest Duds but I'd rather wait for the pro.

He used him last night. I thought he did a decent job defensively especially for not playing since last year. He hasn't found his shot yet, so hopefully that get's better. Overall pretty good for one day with the team.

I thought he did pretty well defensively. He was very active. I think he's going to end up being a good pickup. We'll see what he does today.

Honestly did not like what I saw. He looked slower than Dudley but its his first game back in a while so I can't blame him. I will wait a few games before I make any judgments.

I hope you're right. I was excited when we first signed Dudley, but he has been a disappointment so far. His defense has been horrible and his 3 point shooting average is the lowest it's been since his rookie year. For now, I'll blame it on his leg injury. Hope he can get healthy and start knocking down those threes. We need a 3 and D guy.

I was okay with Jackson, being that it was his first game since march/April and to get thrown right into the fire. I'd say he did pretty good.

I'd say Jack did great. I think we place to much stock in scoring around here, Jack didn't shoot it well, but his defense was excellent. Jack did something I've only ever seen from one person on the Clippers roster "EVER", Stephen Jackson got his shot blocked on the 3 point line, in he ran down the floor and stole the ball back in a critical moment of the game, that's just the type of player that'll help you win.

Stephen Jackson has already been a positive influence on our players. He's been a great cheerleader for the team and I've seen him talking with Blake on the bench a lot. I kinda wish Doc would utilize him just a little more to see what Jackson could do when the rust (and the pounds) are shaken off. I've already seen some solid defense from him. I love Barnes and I know what Dudley can do when he's on, but seems a waste.

I really was hoping we found a way to keep Jackson and give him a little more playing time. I prefer his play than that of Jamison's so far, and have wanted to see a hybrid line up with Barnes at the 2, Duds at the 3, and Jackson at the 4.

I think his attitude has really helped the Clips so far, Blake really seamed to change his attitude once he got here. He is the only player that we have that has won a championship. I think he is the type of player to help Blake and DJ really build some mental toughness. He's always the first one up giving props or whatever is necessary when players come to the bench. I think he hasn't found his niche on the team, but can still prove to be valuable. I also think he is our best perimeter defender on the team right now.

I understand that this might be a necessity due to having terrible back up bigs, and Reggie Bullock coming back soon; but damn it would be nice if we could just get rid of Mullens instead. I would also really like to play Reggie at the 2 spot more than the 3, but that might just be me.

Thanks for the effort and positive professionalism Cap Jack. I agree would of preferred him over a Mullens and maybe Jamison just as a bench presence and staying on the guys.

stinky. I would prefer Sjax over Jamison even if he's not in shape right now. Jamison plays no defense and if his awkward shot doesn't go in then he is useless.
