@EricPatten: Matt Barnes was fined 25k for not leaving court in a timely manner after his ejection. However, flagrant-2 was downgraded to a flagrant-1

THATS REDICULOUS

Complete screw job by the league. It was a hard all ball foul and now this crap. This would be a great PR move if Sterling picks up tab on this one to back his enforcer. Hell DJ should pick this one just to show he will back a defensive play.

Such a crap fine.

The league really hates Matt Barnes. They treat him like MWP maybe worse.

the refs took time to review the play and STILL GOT IT WRONG. Isn't that what watching a replay is for??? Wish there were some sort of repercussion for them, too...

How backwards is the NBA? Matt Barnes was wrongfully issued a flagrant 2 foul which leads to his ejection. The league reviews the game and downgrades the foul to a flagrant 1, which is does not warrant ejection from the game. But then proceeds to fine him $25k for not leaving fast enough. Where is the logic in this reasoning.

Matt should fight this. Can you say double standard?

`We need everyone on our team to change their first names to Kobe or LeBron, then this bullshit wouldn't happen (you can edit bullsquat if you have to David!).

I guess we will never get any respect in the league and it seems the better our team gets, the more we get crapped on by refs and the league.

Here's how the conversation went down:

Ref 1: Man, I hate Matt Barnes!

Ref 2: Yeah, me too, boss! I'm glad you called a Flagrant on him!

Ref 1: I know, right? Something about that guy! I want to punch him in the face.

Ref 2: Ha Ha...Hey, think we should bump it up to a Flagrant 2?

Ref 1: Hmmm, I don't see why not!

Ref 2: Awesome! Let's call it!

Ref 1: Wait. We better at least go to the monitor to make it look convincing.

Ref 2: Good idea, boss! You're the best!

yeah it is a double standard. Whether its right or wrong the NBA dishes out harsher punishment for guys that have a history of fighting, arguing, and fouling. That same play would not have been a flagrant 2 or even a 1 if it was Kevin Durant in Matt Barnes place

Its basivally profiling. In their minds they think since he's done a no-no before it must be a no-no now. If kevin durant did the foul matt barnes did they wouldn't even review it to see if it was a flagrant. The sad truth about the NBA

This fine is utterly ridiculous. It should be waived for poor officiating. Refs should also be fined somehow or at least get disciplined for awful calls like this especially when the league has clearly overturned the flagrant 2 violation. It just doesn't seem fair that refs are not held accountable for egregious calls.

This topic was prevalent on Clippers post game talk on 980. Brian Seeman said something along the lines that officials spend endless hours reviewing calls and actually analyzing calls. They have mock games and if an official screws a call up he's put on blast. Seeman certainly seemed very PC, but the bottom line is he was claiming that Officials do indeed receive training and get reviewed. I can believe that, but I also think that despite training there is a very human aspect to this game, and if certain players have a reputation they may react prematurely and dish out a punishment more severe than needed.

Matt Barnes should *sue* the refs and the NBA to recover this bogus fine. It was supposed to be flagrant 1 in the first place, meaning he shouldn't have been kicked out. So why should he be responsible for not leaving the court in a "timely" manner if he wasn't even supposed to be out in the first place?

Because, like children, our players are supposed to do as they're told no matter how unreasonable or unfair the demand is.

Well, Matt ought to be given the opportunity to file an appeal of this fine. Sure he has an established reputation, but in the end, these refs should have done a better job of officiating instead of erroneously ejecting a player who clearly shouldn't have been ejected in the first place. This is just so ridiculous.

Refs should be the ones getting fined or fired, Marc Davis especially. The same Marc Davis who gave Reggie Evans a technical foul for high fiving Blake 2 years ago in the playoffs vs the Teddy Bears (Grizzlies)

I hope Matt gets his money back because he sure doesn't deserve this.

SO Barnes is wrongfully thrown out. League says, "OK refs, you made a mistake", downgrade the "flagrant 2" to a "flagrant 1" and proceed to fine Barnes for leaving in a timely manner.

Later, Love elbows Griffin and even bloodies the Hulk, and the NBA says nothing about it????

What in the world is going on? I thought that Doc Rivers would bring an aura of respect with him but it has not been the case. The refs are letting BG get hit twice as hard as that Matt "flagrant 2" and do nothing about it?

Because refs can do whatever they want with zero accountability.

My wife and myself thought the same thing about Doc and it seemed for the first couple of games at home with Doc there seemed to be a difference in the officiating, but man we are back to business as normal with the treatment of our team and players and the lack of respect.

What if we lost? Would they eject the game from the standings? How about fining the refs? We won't even mention the no call CP3 foul.

Reviewed the video. It wasn't a flagrant at all. He got a lot of ball.

The many BS calls from yesterday and i do not see a foul on the game tying dunk by Jamal.

As we all know the Clips got the steal on a great double team by CP and J Craw.

Jamal grabs the ball goes up for a dunk, as soon as that happens, Kevin Martin tosses Paul like a rag doll.

Would had been a free throw and potentially a win in regulation.

Worst officiated Clips game I've seen in a while. Seems like Matt always has some kind of flagrant or tech in the box score before the game even begins.

They confirm Matt was right to be pissed by downgrading the foul to F1, then fine him for being pissed.

There's just nothing you can do anymore with a lot of these refs. He's a SF trying to take a foul on a F/C and not allow him to get an And1. It's not rocket science, a smaller guy can't just bump a bigger guy and take a foul. He has to be sure and he put two hands on the ball. They kick him out of the game for not letting Love make the shot.

If he would have blatantly elbowed KLove in the head resulting in a bleeding gash, I wonder what they would have done to him. Multiple game suspension no doubt.

Just sucks for Barnes, part of it is his own fault by getting in so many fights in the past, but the refs are taking away his game. It's been pretty amazing how well he's played since returning, we need that guy on the court as much as possible.

P.S. If I'm a guy named CP, Blake, or DJ, I'm paying some of these fines for Barnes. The fines should be commensurate with your salary, 25K means a helluva lot more to Barnes than it does to a guy making 10mil or 15mil.

What kind of bullshit is this?? That last game as bogus... I'm glad we escaped with a W. I watched the replay, and unless Ralph was mistaken, Blake picked up his 5th foul in OT from 25 feet away...

I heard that too. I had to go back and check and it was actually Jamal who made the foul. Blake was out in 3 point land w "superstar" Kevin Love. Unless it was a Lawler mistake, I don't see how Blake could foul a guy that far away.

Thanks for the Rep bro. I just hope this bs doesn't get to his head and make him think too much or change the way he plays. He plays best when he has the fire.

what i find ridiculous is the elbows to BG's head were not considered a flagrant. Those were totally intentional, and two in a row? c'mon....

^ To not even look at that play after ejecting Matt shows the inherent bias in the league today. I don't understand why there can't be a 4th official who sits with the scorers and reviews any questionable plays during the flow of the game and makes the right call at the next dead ball.

WOW! So he got fined for arguing his case on a call that he was right about?

That makes no sense. The NBA and its officiating can be a joke sometimes. It was a good hard foul. Nothing more. This league can be so soft sometimes.

"(Referee) Marc Davis told Kevin Love, 'Don't worry. We're going to throw him out,'" Barnes said. "So I kind of knew what his mind-set was. It's definitely a double standard here. But all I can do is play."- Matt Barnes

Damn that is eff'd up

wow. How about draymond Green getting fined only 15k? Is it because of Matt's reputation or because it's his second offense. Even though i think they got him for 25 the first time.
