We don't need any Small Forwards to win a championship. No team has 1-5 Great players. Our SF's are fine, they aren't even first 3 options on offense. Now a backup big is another story. ....

Every year teams try to emulate the past Championship teams and that's not the recipe for success. We can't be one step behind everyone and expect to win in this evolving league.

I look at the past Finals teams and notice they all had something unique and rare. Mavs had a 7'0 PF who can drain 3's. Miami had 6'8 SF who plays like a PG. Thunder had a PG who shoots 25 times a game. Spurs had a system that utilized every one of their players properly.

Why can't we be the innovative team with an athletic PF/C combo that score on your bigs on one end and defend your bigs on the other or a PG who can get you 20 assists on any given night or a SG who never has to touch the ball to be effective and when he does touch it he'll light you up, and all of this while playing in a fundamentally sound system created by Doc?

Soon teams will be trying to recreate our Clippers team.

Maybe Doc isn't too confident in mentoring/coaching Bynum.

Its a kick in the gut when it seems he took low pay and will be taking a bench role. So basically everything we needed him to do he will do for the Pacers. Its not even that Bynum is gone its more we still don't have a C that can backup and give us another option from DJ.

i can GUARANTEEE you that if we signed bynum, people would've been bashing him within 2 weeks. I'm good with him not coming here. should've been a given.

Why would we bash someone who can play a solid 12 mins per game? We haven't got that from any of our back up big

We already bash our back up bigs now. I think Bynum wouldve been different

They already got his banner up in the arena 4 hours after signing him

We couldn't offer more then what the Pacers could. They still had 2.1m on an exemption to use, divide that by the remaining games and they could offer him roughly 1 mil. Probably 3-400k more than we could.

Doc doesn't want to admit he was wrong about Mullens, Hollins, and Jamison. We're going to be stuck with those three all year and it will bite us in the ass in the playoffs.

Doc is a great coach but I would much rather have an experienced GM calling the shots on personnel.

What exactly would there be to bash him about? On his worst day, Bynum is a million times better than our current backup bigs.

Trade deadline is February 20th, right? Perhaps Doc has something else lined up, better than Bynum. Someone like Odom. Our front office may have realized that Bynum is a poor fit for this team and didn't want the headcase and the accompanying headache of dealing with him.

Why are you so negative? You butch and moan in every post.

Another undercover troll perhaps.

Bro what you are failing to mention is that Those SF are the best

players on their team. So of course they are going to be contenders

based on their superior SF play.

But like I said 1-5 Don't have to be great.

1- Chris Paul (best PG in the league)

2 - (Griffin - Arguably best PF in league at least top 3) 2nd scoring option.

    • JJ redick best off the ball 2 sg in the league

4 - JC - Best Bench 2 in the league.

My point is we don't need Great SF play to win a championship

because our offense is built on the 1,2, 4 spots as opposed

to Miami, OKC, Knicks, and Thunder where the offenses are built

around the 3 being the main scorer.

That's why SF play for those teams are critical and it is NOT

as critical for our team.

Repped High Quality Post

I think that's DEFINITELY the reason. But then again, maybe he's just uncoachable.

It's quite obvious to each and every person on this forum that we desperately need a backup big before the playoffs, so I would imagine that word has reached Doc's ear (if he wasn't already aware).

League insiders like coaches and GM's have access to information we have absolutely no clue about. I cannot imagine Doc not having a very good reason for not pursuing Bynum. Maybe he's heard something that convinced him that the big fella is simply not worth the gamble, or maybe he just has something less risky already lined up.

Don't forget... quiet negotiations about CP3 coming to the Clips began a full six months before any reporter or fan even heard a rumor of such a deal.

As Clippers fans, we're not used to stealthy, master-stroke type of deals being kept quiet and then dropping on the league like a bomb, but we're under new management now. I've always believed that the P.R. guy who got fired during negotiations with the Celtics for Doc got fired for a good reason.

We've grown up as an organization. We behave the way the consistently elite franchises like the Spurs, Celtics - and though I hate to say it - the Lakers do (or at least have in the past).

We, as fans, need to grow up too. We can't be going all chicken-little when we miss out on what is essentially a huge gamble, minimum-salary free agent. Did I think we should sign Bynum? ...yes I did. But I'm also realistic enough to know that I don't know ALL the facts and Doc Rivers does.

I won't freak out if we win fewer games or get a lower seed than we did under Vinny. I won't even freak out if we don't sign ANYBODY by the playoffs. I'm giving Doc until our last game of the season before I form any concrete opinions.

He was brought in to take us further in the playoffs and to ultimately win a championship. I expect us to take the next step this year... that means the conference finals. If we don't get there, I may have something to say about getting an independent GM, but it's only fair to let the guy with the championship ring do it his way - however he sees fit - for one season.

You don't get a dog, then bark yourself.

I just spoke with LA Times' Eric Pincus @EricPincus: Ex-Lakers nation grows: Shannon Brown to Spurs, Bynum to Pacers - a number of active Lakers around league http://t.co/IsGmEmTDTx @GameReporter32: @EricPincus Hopefully Odom to the Clips happens today too @EricPincus:....

Probably didn't think he could run the defense, production concerns, chemistry concerns. He hasn't actually been a positive on the court this season, so we shouldn't act like he's a sure positive impact guy, even off the bench.

So I can understand why they didn't do it, but I probably would have done it unless I had deadline plans and wanted to save roster spots, which is also most likely what the Clippers want to do.

Andrew Barnum? The circus is in town

Some players are uncoachable. Remember that he jacked up threes when his coach told him not to. In other words he told his coach to F/O in public. What if he really did try to pork someone in the organization's girlfriend? Why did it take so long to sign him. Maybe there are things only the cognicinti (sp) know that we don't. We have always had players of high character. Could Doc have mentored Stephon Starbury?

In the "Doc-Trine" segment of tonight's pre-game show, Ralph asked Doc if he considered Bynum. Doc said that he did, but that Bynum knew where he was going already. Looks like Clippers never had a chance anyway even if they were interested.

I heard it too, yeah I think Doc feels Bynum's attitude will not help us.

I think Doc would've signed him if he didn't want to go to Indy.

well there was a team that was similar to us, the jazz with stockton and malone, they got close but never did win that championship

personally i rather take a capable PG with blake and a flat out scoring wing. that to me is a winning formula

It takes more than half a season. How long have Pop's boys been together.

CP, BG, JJ Kinda Stockton, Malone Hornaceck (sp). They didn't win a ring because of one thing Michael Jordan. Also they had developed the pick and roll past an art form and to the realm of magic. That takes a few years.
