Is Dudley eye thing more serious than thought? Has yet to come back since being poked in eye.

If team shows up like the third they can win home games without Paul. The effort and urgency has to START at tip.

Team needs the rest.

I wish the Clippers played with the same effort all 4 quarters instead of just the 3rd.

Well that ended horribly. Got beat up by Channing Tatum at the end.

I do not know what exactly did Doc just say to Jamal, but he pointed to the rafters and the Spurs Championship Banners.

Probably telling him that championships are won by team players and not hero ball chuckers

It does the team no good if the role players wait until the second half to play well, IF we've already been blown clear out of the building.

I'm struggling to remain optimistic about this roster even with Paul, but we are older, not athletic except on the front court, and streaky. Big changes are necessary but I feel our hands are tied.

Meh, I still maintain we were getting better and better before JJ went down. It was just an adjustment period and we were actually starting to come together...albeit probably needing another big. Just some bad luck lately. I still think we'll be okay.

Crawford played well in the second half the first half was chucking. Idk what happen to Dudley and why Blake didn't really do much in the 4th

Well, this was why last night's win was so big. W/O CP, B2B on the road, it was going to be tough. Nice comeback in the third, but tonight, the Clipper defensive strategy was seriously flawed. It's mind boggling how they just kept allowing Tony Parker to drive into the lane for layups or dishes for layups. You might as well stay 10 feet away from him and have him shoot the jumper instead. Just terrible. I don't know what Darren Collison was thinking, or somehow Doc Rivers thought he could stay in front of him by playing him so tight. Also, Doc should have expended more timeouts in the first half- he seemed helpless and in daze as the Spurs just kept piling up the points.

The guys also allowed the Spurs to split traps way too often, leaving 2 defenders in the dust, making it a 5 on 3 attack too often. The pick-n-roll defense was also outrageous. Spurs just kept turning the corner, again leaving 2 defenders behind on the way to the rim. You might as well just play zone if you can't keep up.

I think teams lately are on to something, and are exposing the Clippers defensive scheme. This has nothing to do with missing Chris Paul, so the staff and the guys better figure things out- fast.

Let's face it, with one night to prepare after losing our floor general and superstar, we didn't really have time to practice our strategy against a great Spurs team.

If we could just hold teams to 50pts in the first half, we'd be unstoppable.

Gotta bring the effort all 48 for that to be possible. We sure could use at least 1 elite defender at the C/F position.

We need to beat the Magic on Monday. We certainly can't allow another 20-20 game from Vucevic.

we are nothing without paul. bledsoe is a star player, 20 point scorer. why let him go for? why test the depth for? that's 20 points we give up.

I agree that it's nothing to do with CP3 being down, but I just see our guys being slow on rotations and late to 50/50 balls.

The schemes seem to work fine when the effort is there, and that effort is there when our shots are falling. When they're not, or when we're not getting calls, we're hanging our heads and half-assing the defense.

I guess it's human nature, but that's why people describe the Spurs as inhuman... a machine. Pop has the advantage over Doc that he's been there longer than ANY of their players... him and his system ARE the Spurs. It'll take time and maybe some personnel changes to instill that in our Clips.

We have 2 stars who we know what we're going to get from offensively every night (well, 1 right now) and a bunch of guys who can get hot on a given night... and most of the time a couple of them will.

The problem is, if they don't get hot, they stop playing at the other end. This is what Doc means by trusting the system... consistent defensive effort from everybody - all the time, taking high % shots and riding the hot hand... playing the same way whether your line that night looks like an MVP or a scrub.

If our role guys don't figure that out soon, some of them will be on their way out the door, because just like the Spurs' "big 4", Doc is certainly here to stay and outside of CP, Blake and maybe DJ, everybody else is expendable if there's a guy available who's ready to buy in.

I'm hoping JJ's return is a shot in the arm for this team. Not just because of his 16ppg, or because he'll bring some defensive miracle... but because he is the epitome of a guy who plays the same way every single game.

Yeah, if we were allowed to play six guys at the same time.

Collison 16.2pts/36

Bledsoe 19.3pts/36

Seeing as our backup PG sees 18 minutes per game, that is 1.5 points we're giving up. and saving about 80% of Bled's projected salary.

You really don't have a f*cking clue what you're talking about, do you.

Doc said he was actually happiest with Blake. Because BG even though they would pound it inside to him, he recognized that wasn't working because the team needed to move the ball more. Says he liked the unselfishness of Blake's attitude.

i wish collins passed a little more omstead of taking wild shots. I'm all in for redick to start. i think redick is a better facilitator.

JC should play point. He used to start at point for the Warriors and even scored 50.

yeah i like wouldn't mind that either him at the 1 and jj at the 2

this might sound dumb but i would try letting dudley play sg. let barnes start at sf and have jamal at the 1.

Not saying I don't agree with you Cleepers in your assessment of our friend here, but there was a contingent of Clipper fans that wanted to try out Bledsoe as the starting SG.

We already have a hard enough time getting the ball to Griffin. Jamal running things is an awful idea.

Jamal seems to never pass to Blake for some reason, not that he passes it that much to begin with.

Yeah, but he's scoring 19ppg with the ball in his hands... JJ gets 16 just running around. And he still only costs us 2/3 of what Bled will as a FA. This joker thinks we'd score 20 points more per night if we'd kept Bled.

That's true, I'm just saying the scheme should be adjusted vs certain teams. Effort has a lot to do with it, but you can try your hardest but the speed & talent simply might not be there to keep up with a guy like Tony Parker or Manu Ginobilli.

I think I'd rather have them shoot open-ish 20 footers than be constantly allowed to go into the lane and wreak havoc. That's why Splitter got so many points. The Clippers just don't have many wing defender guys like Tony Allen or Aaron Afflalo who have the capability to keep up with their own guys and then help on others.

On the bright side, JJ will be back in about 11 days. There's no replacing CP3, but at least we can go back to having JJ start and Jamal back as the 6th man. It will nice to have some consistent shooting from the behind the arc.

Yeah, not a lot of guys can keep up with Parker when he's running off screens (many of them dubiously legal, but refs love Timmy). I agree with you about making him a jumpshooter. When he does drive, that's where our rim protector is supposed to stop him, but DJ seemed a bit timid in that department tonight. Looked like he was afraid of the whistle, then fouled out on dumb mistakes anyway.

Still, it was a likely schedule loss anyway. Hopefully we don't dig the same type of hole again.
