As if we needed further proof of Blake's great performance last night:

More "stuff" from "Dick" Young:

"This game's supposed to be fun and you're supposed to enjoy it. But to lose like that, that's embarrassing," said Lakers forward Nick Young. "It shouldn't happen, period. Shouldn't lose by 40 to nobody, especially at home against a team like the Clippers. That makes it worse.

Apparently "Dick" thinks all games played at Staples are home games for the Lakers, LOL. I think he's butt hurt he's not playing for the Clippers.

Anybody notice for the first time ever we got to play Grizzlies/Bulls/Pacers style? Refs let us rough them up lol. Usually we are the ones getting shafted there with physicality. Now let us have the same freedom vs contenders.

I think Jamal will be alright. He's got to settle back in. If he can get back to his November numbers our bench will be in great shape. I love what he was doing in November:

15.7 points, 47% FG, 39% 3 PT...he was putting up some of his best numbers ever.

Those are great interviews, often they are pretty tedious and boring with whatever sportsman saying stock phrases. Not Blake and JJ. That vid made me happy. I haven't seen the game yet but by the sounds of it JJ came back like he was never out. AMAZING!!!!!!

Actually I had a closer look and it is a great cover but is a bit small to appreciate it properly.

How great is it to have JJ back and back properly.

If you guys like CCR,check out the album Fogerty released last year,I think it is called A Song For Everyone. he teams up with others to redo many CCR songs (for example KId Rock on born on the bayou ) and it is outstanding.

It's terrific. Honestly, I love his solo albums...Revival and (especially) Blue Moon Swamp. BMS is practically another CCR album.

And it's awesome to have JJ back, Silasie!

Check out this quote from Saggy Nuts:

"This game's supposed to be fun and you're supposed to enjoy it. But to lose like that, that's embarrassing," said Lakers forward Nick Young. "It shouldn't happen, period. Shouldn't lose by 40 to nobody, especially at home against a team like the Clippers. That makes it worse.

"Can't let people just dunk and us and clown us without giving them a hard foul or even showing any emotion. Foul somebody. Get mad."

Sounding pretty tough through the media despite his soft play on the court. The real epitome of a fake tough guy.

Some dude on the Rant sports site wrote an article saying how the Clippers are struggling on offense since Paul's been out, claims we're averaging only 91.3 points a game. I thought, "What the hell?" I know that ain't right! We just scored 123 points against the Lakers. I calculated that we're basically scoring 107 a game since Paul went down. As near as I can tell, I think this dude was calculating the points put up by the losing team in the last 4 games...3 of those, of course, were the OTHER team, not the Clippers! Because those points seem to equal 91.25.

I'm amazed at what qualifies as a "sports writing" these days.

I think my favorite play was Blake's very last one. That ballhandling spin move and layup. If you look carefully on the Lakers bench, you see Sacre and Kobe look at each other after that moment and Kobe shakes his head.

On my way to starbucks this morning I was listening to 710 ESPN, and Mark Willard was going to raise an issue to Mychael Thompson and John Ireland. Thompson and Ireland were calling the game for the Lakers station and apparently at one point when the game got way out of control Thompson said somthing along the likes of "Doc needs to sit his starters." This conveyed the feeling that the Clippers were unecessarily rubbing the victory in by keeping the starters in longer than they needed to be in the game. Mark Willard said "for the amount of years that this (the Lakers)organization has brushed off the Clippers, for the amount of years they acted like the Clippers didn't even exist and now they want the Clippers to take it easy on them?"

I wanted to give Mark a high five he raised a good point. They treated us like garbage in the past and now they're getting their just due. Our time, our town

Too bad he wasn't in the lineup to get a dose of that ass whooping. I can't wait to hear Mychael Thompsons reaction on 710 ESPN today. Tune in at 10:00 this morning everyone it will be nice to hear him eat crow

Aside from the fact that we'd already handed them their arses by the end of the first quarter... I suppose our bench was supposed to play the last 36 minutes without a break?

When Ryan Hollins plays sixteen and a half minutes while DJ only has 2 fouls... I'd say we showed them PLENTY of mercy.

I also heard that. It sounded like Mychael Thompson was going to cry. Usually I don't like Willard, but it was good to hear him stick up for us on a Lakers station.

I don't say this often, but today is going to be a fun day at work.

I think our guys still played low minutes compared to our season average MPG. so yeah you're right if we left them in any longer it would have been their worst lost. I go in to work today at noon and Ican't wait to rub salt in some wounds lol

lol I guess not for Thompson. but this is good for their fans and organization. they have had silver spoons in their mouths their entire history this will humble them and hopefully make them better people. because as of now they still have that sense of entitlement and delusions about where their organization will be.

This is why I can't stand 710. All they ever talk about is the Lakers. It's usually just the same few story lines rehashed. At least Fox Sports Radio 570 tries to show some neutrality.

Lakers suddenly looking up to Clippers

By Dave McMenamin

LOS ANGELES -- Nick Young was born in Los Angeles on June 1, 1985, eight days before the Lakers won the first of six championships they would capture in his lifetime before Young graduated high school.

Over the same time period during Young's youth, the Los Angeles Clippers made the playoffs on only three occasions, winning a total of four games in those three first-round exits.

Coach Mike D'Antoni and the rest of the Lakers have had to defer to the Clippers this season and may have to follow the same path to rebuild. It was from that perspective, and also from the perspective of someone who has now played professionally for both the Clippers and the Lakers, that Young flippantly dismissed his team's 123-87 loss to their Staples Center cohabitants on Friday, the worst loss the Lakers have ever suffered at the hands of the Clippers.

"They always play good during the year," Young said of the Clippers. "We'll see how it comes down to postseason."

Recent history supports Young's criticism. The Clippers lost four straight games to Memphis to be bounced out of the first round in last year's playoffs (albeit after being up 2-0 to start the series), just like the Lakers lost four in a row to San Antonio, despite the fact the Clips won 11 more games than the Lakers in the 2012-13 regular season. Long-term history supports Young's dig even more. The Lakers, of course, hold a 16-0 edge in championships, a fact that seems to make the Clippers so uncomfortable that coach Doc Rivers chose to cover up the Lakers' banners with giant, billboard-sized posters of Clippers players during home games.

Maybe it was just tough talk to try to get over having maybe even a worse night individually (Young shot 3-for-14 from the field with three turnovers) as the Lakers did as a team. Maybe it was just Swaggy P being Swaggy P and him saying something to try to get under the skin of some of the Clippers players, many of whom he considers friends, for the next time the two teams meet on March 6.

The fact of the matter is, despite the Lakers' rich history being untouchable no matter what the Clippers accomplish going forward (Kobe Bryant quipped to Gary Payton in an interview earlier this season, "It may be the Clippers' city one day; I'll be dead and gone by then. My kids' kids' kids' kids will probably be dead and gone by then. There's just too many banners to catch up to."), it's the Lakers who should be envious of the Clippers' future.

If it already wasn't abundantly apparent, Friday's embarrassment of a loss -- the Lakers' 10th in their past 11 games -- only confirmed that the Lakers are firmly entrenched in rebuilding mold.

And while for the past 30 years it seems the Lakers were able to maintain a perennial-contender status with some savvy front-office moves (drafting Magic Johnson, trading for James Worthy, trading for Bryant, trading for Pau Gasol) and some deep pockets (signing Shaquille O'Neal, signing Metta World Peace), that approach is not going to work this time.

The Lakers are bottoming out to start the rebuild this time, which is precisely where the Clippers were six seasons ago.

"Everyone has done it different ways," Rivers said before the game Friday when asked about the best way to get a team back on a championship track. "The Lakers have been pretty successful -- consistently successful. The Celtics have done the up-and-down thing -- rebuild and then build back up. I don't know if there is any right way."

In this instance, the Clippers' current way seems to be a pretty good path to follow.

It went like this: The Clippers went 23-59 in 2007-08, landing them the No. 7 pick in the draft, which they used on Eric Gordon while also picking up DeAndre Jordan in the second round that year. In 2008-09, they were even worse, going 19-63 and ending up with the No. 1 selection, resulting in Blake Griffin. Two seasons later, Gordon, Griffin and Jordan all matriculated into proven commodities in the league and the Clips used Gordon as the principle piece to land a top-10 player in the league in Chris Paul. Two seasons after that, they brought in a coach with a championship ring on his rsum in Rivers.

And now here they are, 11 games ahead of the Lakers in the standings and on the brink of being a legitimate contender if Paul's shoulder heals and they can make a roster tweak or two to shore up for a long postseason run.

Going 42-122 (or something thereabouts) over the course of two seasons like the Clippers did might not be a reality Lakers fans want to consider ever having to stomach, but there is such thing as a necessary evil sometimes. The sooner the Lakers accept that, the sooner a proper rebuild can occur.

"It's the NBA," said Gasol, who made the Finals in each of his first three seasons with the Lakers, when asked if he could ever envision being mired in such a slump with this team. "You're going to have some good years when things are going to work out and go your way. I was fortunate to be a part of a great stretch, and right now we're kind of on the opposite end of it."

You have to be up to go down, and you have to be down to go up. The Lakers and Clippers are in the process of learning that from each other.

The guys could use the rest. I want them to come out and bury Dallas early. Those first 2 games on the road trip won't be easy. NYK is on a streak and the Pacers... well, 'nuff said. At least after that, it lightens up for a few games. 5-2 would be good, 6-1 would be stellar.

Clips see progress since opener vs. Lakers

By Arash Markazi

LOS ANGELES -- Doc Rivers didn't mean it as a slight. He meant it as a matter of fact as he talked about the Los Angeles Lakers before Friday night's game against his Los Angeles Clippers.

"They're going to win eventually," Rivers said. "That's just the odds."

That might be true, but it wouldn't be Friday, and it certainly wouldn't be against the Clippers, who beat their city rivals 123-87 in a game the Clippers led by as many as 43 points in the fourth quarter.

It was the largest margin of victory the Clippers have ever had over the Lakers, and fell just short of the largest margin of victory the Clippers have achieved against any team.

As much as the Clippers will claim there is no rivalry with the Lakers and they don't pay attention to the team down the hall, the fact is there is and they do.

Blake Griffin easily remembers the season-opening loss to the Lakers, which has fueled the Clippers' improvement since. There is no question that the Lakers beating the Clippers on opening night on national television played a role in the Clippers' relentlessness Friday, when their 20-point, first-quarter lead ballooned to 42 points before the end of the third.

"We definitely remembered," Blake Griffin said. "They hit 14 3s on us, their bench made 76 points and 11 of their 3s were uncontested. We just didn't play well."

That Griffin was able to rattle statistics off from the season opener almost three months later showed the impact that it had on the Clippers. There was no way they were going to let up when they jumped ahead early. They wanted to show the Lakers and the city that they are the best team in town.

Friday's blowout win certainly put the exclamation point on the Clippers being the best team in Los Angeles at the moment. Looking at where both are, that isn't really saying much anymore, as the injury-riddled Lakers have become one of the worst teams in the NBA, with fans more focused on the lottery than the playoffs.

Rivers smiled when he thought back to the season opener and how much the Clippers have grown since his first regular-season game as their coach.

"[The Lakers] were more ready in that game," Rivers said. "[Lakers coach] Mike [D'Antoni] had them ready for that game, and we were not mentally ready for that game, I didn't think. We thought because of all the talk this summer [we were going to win]. I just felt like they attacked us all game and we never responded. I told our guys yesterday that we can't come to a game to put on a show. You have to come to a game to have a competition. I thought tonight we were ready for the competition."

The season opener was so bad and such an aberration in Rivers' mind that he didn't even show his team the film of that game as they prepared for Friday's contest.

"We usually show film of the last game, and today I actually told them, 'You guys don't want to see that film,'" Rivers said. "I watched it, and I couldn't find a redeeming thing to show you that we did good, so we're going to pass on film, which is unusual for us. You didn't want to see us."

Aside from not wanting to re-live one of the team's worst performances of the season, a bigger reason Rivers didn't feel the Clippers needed to watch film of the opener is that their defense is almost unrecognizable from that night to today. When you're looking for the biggest reason the Clippers are playing the way they are and why they've been able to win four of five games without the injured Chris Paul, look no further than the defense.

"That's the change," Rivers said. "Offensively, we were pretty good [in the season opener]. We shot 50 percent. The difference in this team right now is the defense is catching up."

It took about a month for the Clippers to fully understand and buy into Rivers' defensive philosophy, but since then, the Clippers have been one of the best defensive teams in the league. Since Nov. 19, the Clippers are 19-9 and are in the top four in opponent field goal percentage, defensive efficiency, opponent 3-point percentage and opponent fast-break posts. The latter two were keys for Rivers this season, and the Clippers now rank in the top two in both categories.

Friday night was actually the first time in Clippers history that the team had 16 steals and 13 blocks in the same game.

If the Clippers are to win something more than bragging rights against the Lakers this season, it will be largely because of their improved defense.

"We have a ways to go, but right before I went out [in November], I could tell that we were starting to get it defensively," said Clippers guard J.J. Redick, who returned to the starting lineup on Friday and had 19 points after being sidelined for six weeks with a hand injury. "After I went out, I was watching those games on the East Coast, and we had some really great defensive games. We're getting it. When I went out 20 games ago, I said we're close and we're there almost. We're pretty much there defensively. We get it." http://espn.go.com/blog/los-angeles/clippers/print?id=5674
