Clippers-Bucks Preview

Posted Jan 26 2014 12:19PM The Los Angeles Clippers enjoyed a winning seven-game trip earlier this season but that wasn't enough for them.

Now they can fare better on this seven-game stretch.

The Clippers seek a third straight victory to close out this trip Monday night against a lowly Milwaukee Bucks team that held a team meeting after its latest ugly defeat.

Los Angeles (31-15) went 4-3 on a trip from Dec. 4-14, and is looking for more following Saturday's 126-118 victory over Toronto. Jamal Crawford scored a season-high 37 points and matched a season best with 11 assists.

"Whenever you can go over .500 on a road trip, it's good," Crawford said. "We went 4-3 and we weren't satisfied. Now we're 4-2 with an opportunity to go 5-2. It shows the growth."

Blake Griffin scored 30 to increase his average to 26.5 on this trip. He figures to be relishing Monday's contest since he has five double-doubles in as many games against the Bucks, averaging 22.8 points and 11.8 rebounds.

"This is the best Blake Griffin we've seen and he's going to continue to get better," Crawford said.

The Clippers have taken 10 of their last 13 games against Eastern Conference foes.

Milwaukee (8-35) is 1-13 against the West, and has lost 10 straight interconference games at home.

The Bucks dropped to 1-11 in January with Saturday's 112-87 home loss to Atlanta that caused coach Larry Drew to hold a 21-minute meeting afterward with the league's worst team.

"This was a totally, totally unacceptable performance," Drew said. "Do we have anything inside that will allow us to go out and compete at a high level?"

Brandon Knight scored 27 points for Milwaukee, which trailed by as many as 34. Knight made 5 of 7 3-pointers, but the rest of the Bucks missed all 14 of their attempts.

"This is not a time to make up excuses for what has happened to us," Drew said. "The situation is what it is. As I told the guys after the game, this is beyond basketball, it's beyond basketball. It's about representing what's on your chest and what's on your back."

The situation figures to get worse Monday for Milwaukee, the NBA's lowest scoring team at 91.3 points per game. No team has averaged fewer points over an 82-game season since 2005-06.

The Clippers, in contrast, are one of the league's highest scoring teams at 106.0 points per game - 119.0 in their last two.

Los Angeles guard J.J. Redick enters off consecutive 18-point efforts. He will return to Milwaukee for the first time since he averaged 12.3 points in 28 games for the Bucks last season.

Redick was acquired July 10 in a three-team deal that included former Clippers forward Caron Butler, who was traded to Milwaukee by Phoenix on Aug. 29. Butler spent his previous two seasons with Los Angeles.

The Clippers swept the Bucks by an average of 21.0 points last season. They had Chris Paul then, but are 8-3 without the injured star now.

"We're doing it without one of the best players in the world," Crawford said.

Two of the league's best shot blockers will be on display, with DeAndre Jordan averaging 2.4 for the Clippers and John Henson 2.2 for the Bucks.

This is not the time for The Clippers to relax since its The Bucks! We need to stay focus and win this ball game with our defense since we didn't in Toronto... We was lucky to win because if we was playing any other team like Mia, Atl and Indy we would had lost. Gladly we had Crawford hot and JJ down the stretch. Let's go 5-2 guys and keep it rolling with (W) Go Clippers!

If we sign Bynum it will solve our back up big problems specially offensive and defensive rebounds.

Clippers should easily win this game if they remain focused and not play down to the Bucks' level. Having a 5-2 road trip is a great incentive. I hope Clippers come out with a defensive mindset along with their gunslinging offense. Win this one, Clippers!

A Triple Double For Blake( 10 plus points, boards, and assist ) or DJ ( Points,Boards, and Blocks ) And One Of Our SGs or both gets hot and has a big game. Jamal with his hot hand or JJ returning to his old team

Once CP3 went down I felt like the Clippers started to take every game seriously unlike the previous road trip. Hope this trend continues especially when Paul comes back. Can't wait to see how good this team will be with everyone healthy + maybe an Odom type backup big.

As bad as Dudley and Barnes have been this year, they've at least been better than Caron. 16 shot attempts per 36, despite shooting 38%? At least Barnes and Dudley have the good sense to stop shooting so much when they are off their game.

We are fortunate that the players we have are good passers. Blake has always shown an ability to find his teammates. Darren Collison can be a starting point guard on many teams, and while he isn't going to rank in the top 10 starting point guards having a guy like him as your backup is awesome. Essentially between Blake and Collison they have dished out comparable number of assists that Chris would. To be honest I think losing guys like Redick and Blake are going to be more detrimental to the team success because we don't have anyone who can do what they do. Redick goes down and our shooting goes stagnant, Blake goes down and our front court offense is gone. Luckily for us these injuries have been staggered and they have come to players we can successfully replace.

I really wouldn't be surprised if Caron played with "something to prove" tonight. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if OJ Mayo tried to go off also. If I recall correctly, he was one of the names rumored to take our SG position before we got JJ.

Even with this being a big trap game, we should handle the Bucks easily. They're a terrible team...just terrible.

Our 2nd unit, as bad as they're been a lot of the times, could probably beat them 6 out of 10 times, LOL.

They're not good enough to trap us. If we play terrible, we'll win by 15-20. Tonight is a gimme. Just hope it's over in the 3rd and we can get the bench some run.

Prediction: Redick goes for 15pts. in the 1st and we're up by about that much at the end of the quarter.

It is a trap or a relax game if the clippers stay focus we will be fine. The head coach got in their a%%! And I wouldn't be surprised if there was not one that's hot! We need to look at this game as if they were the best of the best because if not, we're in trouble.

Their's no such thing as a gimme in the NBA, anybody can get got, and If OJ Mayo has a good shooting night combined with Brandon Knight then it could be trouble. They have 2 elite defenders on their front line in Larry Sanders and John Henson who might I add can strait up ball, not to mention Ilyasova is a damn good player as well as Nate Walters, Luke Ridnour, and Gary Neal can shot and Giannis Antetokounmpo is a pretty good young player and as we know Caron can always go off. They're not that good but they haven't had their full roster healthy all year, they go into this one thinking easy win and they'll loose.

The worst team in the league is usually not a trap game. Guys get up to play the worst teams because it's too much of an embarrassment to lose to them. We shouldn't have lost to the Bobcats no doubt, but they're a PO team at the moment and they have an all-star in big Al. Milwaukee is a shitshow.

OJ Mayo and Sanders are sick and won't be playing, according to Eric Patten's tweet. (Sorry, I don't know how to include the tweet.) Gary Neal is a game-time decision and 3 other players (Udoh, Pachulia, and Delfino) remain out. Yikes. Caron will have to shoulder this one if he can. Clippers should easily win this.

Even though I agree that we can't take any games off, in the Bobcats' defense, they are a much better team than the Bucks. Charlotte has 19 wins, Milwaukee 8 wins.
