Backup big would be nice.... Matt Barnes isn't doing that bad a job with the starting unit.... Plays pretty good defense... Unless you can upgrade to an Ariza type player I say focus on backup big. Starting unit is okay in my eyes... CP3, JJ, Barnes, Blake, and DJ. Just a little more meshing and a little more defense and we are good. Offense is awesome.

No reason we can't just cut Jamison and Mullens, eat their remaining contract and sign someone for minimum, we would still be over the tax but below the apron. Vujacic is a 10 day and now with Redick and Paul ready maybe we just let him go once it's up.

Don't know if the rules allow and I would eat any amount of $$ for a year for a good squad

BUT

That presupposed that there are a lot of good FA's out there. Thet're ain't. That also doesn't address our SF/Center problem.

ODOM. If we could cut Mullens and sign Lamar and sign Sasha for another 10 day I'd do it in a heartbeat but can we? Why Sasha? Willie is an OK spot up corner three guy but when in form Sasha can shoot from anywhere and is annoying defender.

Think we are fairly solid at SF with or without Dudley. Barnes, Bullock and Hedo should be able to maintain when need be and if Dudley stays more power to him. The C spot is about getting someone that Doc can fall back on and feel comfortable on the floor with both bigs and can keep pace.

Doc said he was going to play Hedo at PF which Doc thinks is his natural position. Bullock is a rookie - read probably no minutes at PO time. He may be promising but he ain't a wunderkind or however you spell that German sh*t. Would you want him in an important game where the vets will eat him alive? He hasn't gotten enough playing time to scuff up his kicks. Without Dudley or another real SF we're in the same menudo as we are at Center

Dudless

Hollins

Hedo

Bullock

Jamal

Collison

Assume Jamison is a 37 year old bust.

I would feel a lot better with Dudley playing 30+ minutes a game than Hollins. We've already had a period where Barnes was hurt and we were running Dudley into the ground even though his injury was likely worse than it is now. A most of our biggest wins this year, OKC, San Antonio, both Houston, @ Dallas and Golden State came with Dudley playing 30+ minutes and Barnes either barely playing or out completely. I'm not at all confident we could do the same with Hollins as pretty much our only real center.

clippers need a big body to fill in the middle...

and barnes was the best player in the playoffs after paul and griffin..

and barnes is the best defender on the team..he is the clippers toughness...

I don't think Ivan can fill in at center. He's 6'7 maybe 6'8, he's physical enough but that could be giving up a lot of height. If he had another inch or two he'd be set. I like him a lot, but don't see us signing him unless we can unload mullens or Jamison. I'm not sure what his standing reach is though, that might be something to consider.

His contract is expiring they don't need to do anything to get rid of it. They are likely wanting to move him for someone under contract, but I doubt they want another SF given they already have Webster and Porter. They probably want a big, Nene is aging, Gortat is also expiring and they could probably use a starting PF; either that or a third guard that can cover for both Wall and Beal, or even push for Beal's role as a starter. I could also see them maybe trying to package Gortat and Arzia for a single big contract.

jarca wrote:

That way they have three players blocking Porter instead of two.

Well send them Willie Green and Dudley and I return if we can take on Arizas and Eric Maynor I've already liked his game. When he was with OKC he player really good for them nice annoying defensive guard

There's a difference between taking on someone's contract and acquiring a good player who also get paid well. They won't just give away a good player simply because he gets paid a lot.

I'd love to "take on" LeBron James's contract also.

It's a good trade, but Memphis would need a little more than just Dudley. I'd still do that trade if MEM got Quincy Miller and we just got Mike Miller and Mozgov.

Yea but there trying to dump his contract they don't want it. Eric Maynor is not even being used and can used down the stretch to

Save CP3 and even DC

If they wanted to just dump his contract they'd just give him away, if they wanted good pieces in return (which they do) then they'd ask for draft picks and players to help their team now because they are a playoff team.

We don't have either of those things.

I think something like this can be realistic.

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=m6ccegq

Clippers get

A. Randolph from Denver

J. Hamilton from Denver

and

J. Harrellson (Looks like a slightly friendlier version of Pekovic) from Detroit (I know he's hurt but hoping he's back soon)

Denver gets

Josh Smith from Detroit

Detroit gets

Jared Dudley from Clips

R. Felton from New York

I. Shumpert from New York

New York gets

Andre Miller from Denver

K. Faried from Denver

we could skewer it a bit to try to get Shumpert and sell Detroit on 3pt shooting

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=memhgd4 but that's not happening, I just want to get rid of Mullens

I'm not sure that would be a good thing if Barnes was our best defender. He is our best wing defender I suppose which sadly isn't saying much with the competition of Redick, Jamal and Dudley. CP is the best perimeter defender, but of course he's small so can really only guard PG's and DJ is probably the "best" defender in terms of overall highest impact.

Namzug, that's not a bad trade at all, though A.Randolph has always been interesting in terms of why despite being productive can never actually get consistent minutes. There's something about him.

...but, yes, always a but. Denver would want Greg Monroe from Detroit not the overpaid and unimpressive Josh Smith

We've allowed something like 10 points more per 100 possessions with Barnes on the floor than Dudley, Barnes is definitely not our best defender.

Barnes looks good defending on the ball and he's fairly athletic, but his team defense and off the ball defense just isn't good as Dudley or Redick.

clipperboy24

I think that's more of a function of Crawford playing with Barnes than Dudley being a good defender.

Also what's the pace on offense? You can't just isolate one stat.

MunoValente

There are plenty of reasons on/off numbers can be wonky, they are a noisy stat in general, although they generally are pace adjusted. I don't really think the difference between the two is actually anywhere near that big and their numbers will be much closer the end of the year, but either way Barnes is a long way from being our best defender, especially this year. Up until the last couple games Barnes has played like an idiot most of the season; hopefully the more recent games are a sign of things to come though and he starts to play smarter and more consistent.

I think the Clippers need to get in on the Nuggets-Knicks trade talks because most certainly Kenneth Faried and Andre Miller are going to New York. Could we get Kenyon Martin or do the Bulls....

Would not be surprised if we sign Camby. He's trying to catch on with somebody before March 1st. Supposedly is in shape.

Camby would need to show it first, maybe two ten day contracts after the all star break. I like the idea of him mentoring DJ again. I said it in another post, that we should give him a look as a player development coach. Like what Rasheed has with Detroit. He's already got the ear of DJ in my opinion, or he had it (his defensive accolades I think get his attention). Of course I would love for us to get a Bill Walton type guy, but Camby being fresh and still being able to literally show him exactly how to do things could be very helpful.

@Luigi I'd take Quincy in that deal if we could. I'm not really high on Kmart anymore, and would prefer a clean Odom if possible.

yeah i kinda like quincy too but he probably wouldn't get much playing time with dudley and barnes. kmart's alright, better than any back ups we have. i would take reggie evans over martin but i don't think brooklyn is going to make any moves.

Check out their RAPM (I don't know what it is, I'm actually suggesting to check this). Dudley has played more with the starting lineup which is better on defense while Barnes has played more with the bench who hasn't been good on defense.

Barnes defense hasn't really been impressive. You can look like a good defender without actually having good defensive impact (check: Corey Brewer). Barnes isn't a super mistake free defender. Many times if guys have different strengths and weaknesses defensively, it can balance out to just having average defensive impact. Dudley is more consistent with the defensive schemes, Barnes has more individual defensive talent, but Barnes is at an age where that isn't going to carry him.

I'd love to have him as well, but I'm watching The Wizards vs the Rockets and Trevor Ariza has made 10 3pter's going into the 4th quarter 7 for 7 in the 3rd, now He would fit perfect on this team.

that would be great but i doubt the thunder would trade him to us.

maybe bullock + a first round pick? i don't know if he's even worth that though.

Grizz and T Wolves are discussing a trade for Budinger and Prince and reportedly Tony Allen is involved. Imagine if we could snatch Tony Allen from the Grizz.

Would be Dudley to Memphis to replace Prince or back up Budinger. Send some cap fillers out like Jamison, Mullens, and Hollins if need be to make things fit. Clippers ask for a big from both teams Cunningham and Ed Davis and a pick or prospect.
