If LBJ ever did that, I'm sure the NBA would investigate for impropriety.

What if Lebron opted in for one more season with Miami and became a free agent next season? Wouldn't we have DeAndre off the books as well as a few other players? That might put us in striking distance of clearing space for Lebron.

Waiting??? I thought that term was only for teams that aren't entitled to championships every year.

Judging by all the hate towards CP I wouldn't trust some of our "fans" with the burden of having to wait a whole year without offing themselves.

Here's the article. It's nothing new though...just some writer that thinks the Clippers should trade Blake Griffin for Lebron.

I wish the Clippers would trade Chris Paul for Lebron, but I don't think Lebron would want to play here if CP3 wasn't here. After that trade, the Clippers could offer Collison the starting job and maybe sign Livingston to back him up and draft Napier for the future. Lebron and Griffin would be a force to reckon with. And along with DeAndre, the Clippers would have the three most athletic players in the league.

Lebron can opt out this year, take a three million dollar deal with the Clippers and still make 100 million or so this year in endorsements. if Lebron wants to become a Clipper, he can make that happen and we could keep Blake and CP3 and be the championship favorite for the next three or more years.

That's a pipe dream. I don't think even a guy like LeBron who can make money hand over fist outside of the NBA will take a 3 million dollar deal for a year, much less for a long contract. If I am not mistaken, if he takes a one year deal like that, it will substantially effect his next max contract.

The Miami Heat just lost a one-sided, demoralizing NBA Finals to the San Antonio Spurs in 5 games. All 4 San Antonio wins were by double digits. Lebron James, even though he will still....

Man this new forum setup is freaking hard to follow on my phone. Anywho...

I would trade cp3 for Lebron. I would not trade griffin for Lebron. Cp has to dominate the ball too much, Lebron would play better with Griffin IMO.

Wasn't the word today that lebron doesn't want to play with a ball dominant point guard? Maybe he'd make an exception for his son's godfather. However if we can get lebron without losing blake or Chris you have to do it no matter what. I would try to get rid of DJ's expiring deal and just play blake at 5 if you can't get a value center on the relative cheap. The question for dJ lovers: are we one lebron away from contention or one dj away? Dj is a limited player especially as long as he sucks that much from the line. His defense is improving but lebron is a better overall defender and can guard 1-5. I would do this in a second. This would give us one elite guard, one elite wing, one elite big. We can pick up veterans like possibly Paul pierce, Garnett, Ray Allen, Chris Kaman to sign for cheap. I think this is all possible. Lebron for blake isn't going to help we need all three.

dunno.... now CP3 prolly wants LeBron and Melo here.... personally think Paul's game is gonna start to fade and that his chance at injury is gonna get more likely the longer he plays, whereas both Blake and DJ are young and getting better.... those two w/the King is preferable to CP's 3.... him, Melo and James.... 'specially for/in the longrun.

I'd still want Melo. When is the last 20/20 game LeBron has had? Melo had one last season, against us.

I Want Melo. He wouldn't cost us DJ. Maybe JCrossover and others

So that means if we get Melo, we can kiss goodbye the 20/20 games? When's the last time Melo won consecutive MVP's? Hell, when is the last time ME-lo won MVP? Hell, I don't even like LeBronze but that's crazy talk.

I bet he would. Melo is all about the money. That being said I'd still be willing to give up the same things for Melo.

I've said this before. If Melo comes here he is our 3rd best player. If LeBron comes here Chris is our 3rd best player.

If Chris Paul is your 3rd best player you won't lose basketball games ever.

I wonder since this Sterling thing is still going on! Can Players like Blake, CP3, and DJ ask out of their contracts like wanted before. Then sign here again for less. I know it probably illegal haha

Did you not get the memo? Simmons is only credible if he's reporting things that you want to hear.

LBJ to the Clippers is what I want, therefore Simmons is WOJ 2.0 in my eyes.

LOL. LeBron is 29. He won't be an old fart for another 10 years....and by then we'd have 4 Championships so it won't matter.

That Is not the problem. I am sure Lebron would love to team up with his best buddy CP3 and play with an elite PF in Blake and a great coach in Doc but we have to make the salaries work.

Didn't all the released players come sign with the Clippers for minimum contracts last year? The Clippers were Lakerish last year.

We would literally need to get basically nothing in return. Those picks alone are too much salary to take back and then adding on Gerald Green.

I'm not sure that has happened to the Lakers. I also think he means how lakers fans think everyone wants to go there for basically peanuts cause they have the lakers now on the history channel. Smile

Some more on the subject:

Clippers and Rockets to pursue LeBron James if he becomes free agent?

Dan Feldman

Jun 18, 2014, 9:25 AM EDT

LeBron James might never hit free agency he won't talk about his plan other than to say he'll discuss it with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh but he still has suitors readying themselves.

The Cavaliers reportedly pursued John Calipari for him, and the Lakers are reportedly delaying their coaching hire for him.

And that doesn't even include the rational teams.

Yes, they're interested in LeBron too, even if they don't telegraph it in such obvious ways.

Bill Simmons of Grantland:

Simmons most often analyzes news reported by others, but occasionally, he breaks news. It's not exactly clear which he's doing here.

Does he have specific information about the Clippers' and Rockets' plans? Simmons has connections in both organizations, so that's definitely possible.

Or is he just speculating based on available information, including LeBron's friendship with Chris Paul and fondness for Los Angeles and Daryl Morey's unrepentant pursuit of roster upgrades over continuity. Every team in at least a somewhat desirable market should be plotting how to land LeBron if given an opportunity.

If you're looking for a clue to Simmons' knowledge of the Rockets' and Clippers' intentions, his Clippers plan doesn't even come close to working.

If they trade DeAndre Jordan, Jamal Crawford, Jared Dudley and their first-round pick without any salary returning, the Clippers would have just $6,566,562 in space below the projected salary cap. Considering, LeBron's max starting salary is projected to be $20,659,633, that wouldn't come close to cutting it.

Simmons doesn't specify what Darren Collison, Glen Davis and Danny Granger who each have player options will do, but even if they all opt out, the Clippers would have just $9,574,848 in cap space. Again, that won't get LeBron.

Heck, even if they trim their roster to only Chris Paul and Blake Griffin, the Clippers couldn't offer LeBron his max contract.

I bet the Clippers and Rockets want LeBron and would chase him if he terminates his contract. But getting him to leave the Heat will be a huge challenge.

Well, 30 is a milestone in NBA years though. It's not to say his abilities will decline drastically but the growth and development of skill certainly stops. And with Lebron age might be a bigger worry than guys like Tim Duncan, Kobe, etc. because he relies so much on his strength and speed. The only way you delay that decline is Spurs style, which means playing this guy 20 minutes per game in the regular season to keep him fresh for playoffs. It's a valid concern.

I'm surprised no one caught that...Including myself. It works if that is a S&T with Miami but not shedding the salaries.

CP3 should be traded for Lebron way before Griffin. Griffin has more upside and was better than CP3 even this year, while being 4 years younger. Never mind that CP3/Lebron are both way too ball dominant to co exist. Lebron would essentially be our point forward and primary ballhandler like he's always been in his career.

We could trade deandre, crawford, Dudley and our 1st rounder. Obviously not a fair value for Miami but better than nothing if he is planning on leaving. Will be interesting to see what happens

Clips may trade deandre/jamal to a cap space team. Then trade Dudley & 1st rounder. So we can sign James. According to Bill Simmons.

Griffin isn't going anywhere.

I think what BS means is to sign and trade for him cause we can't sign him as a free agent it has to be a sign and trade from my understanding...

I'd rather have Melo honestly. I love and respect LeBron , but I just don't like the fact of us basically buying championships lol. I'd rather win the right way with a core of CP,....

Second option is Melo, one other superstar of which CP3 is really close with, and I'm SURE he doesn't want to stay in NY no matter what, we can sign and trade for him...
