Actually Doc wanted to trade him for Garnett and Pierce. The NBA wanted us to keep DJ:)

We flipped Mullens and Jamison into Big Baby and Granger, great work by Doc.

I gave my word I'd eat crow if Doc pulled strings during this buyout market. So here I am eating crow. I was wrong, Doc did a great job fixing the mistakes he made with Mullens/Jamison and flipping them into Granger/Davis and possibly more soon. This week alone he went from a D to a B in my book. So thanks for proving me wrong Doc.

It feels good to eat crow when it's in the clippers favor!

I don't know if he had all of it orchestrated or not but I will take it. Granger and big baby is beyond my wildest dreams! Would be awesome if we could dump Dudley and Barnes and try and resign Granger for next year if he has enough left in the tank to perform well.

Fire Doc! Made bad signings in Mullens and Jamison and it took him an entire half of a season to ship them out! Then he goes and replace them with Big Baby Davis and Danny Granger.

Lol

A lot of people got mad when clippers didn't make a move on trading deadline but Doc was right on his interview before the deadline.. He said wanted to have a team like the spurs where they keep they core players add more weapons.. Doc Rivers is a silent but deadly kind of GM! I'm pretty sure he made a mistake getting Mullens and Jamison but i'm glad that he sees his own mistake and convert our Garbage player for Championship Key Player, Big Baby and Batman. Doc Rivers wasn't an excellent GM this summer but making this move during the season proves that he is learning and will become great on being a GM

Don't exaggerate what I said Very Happy. I felt till this week he swung and missed a lot as a GM, but as a coach he's been very good.. so of course he shouldn't be fired. I just thought he should let Gary Sacks carry more of the front office weight. For all we know he is.

Remember when we were talking about trading Jamal Crawford for Danny Granger? At the time, I felt that was a trade we had to make. I much prefer trading Byron Mullens for Danny Granger. Way to go Doc!!!

I never really bothered with this thread. I pretty much stopped reading when original poster pointed out that Doc was a bad GM because of signing players like Dudley, Barnes, and others.

The people that are saying this were probably the same people excited in the beginning of the season when it was announced they signed. Don't act like you knew all along they were gonna be disappointments.

Change the title to Doc being a mediocre magic 8 ball then. He's not psychic, oh no!!

I never checked, but I just noticed who started this topic.

Quite a history of overreacting. Just the other day, he called Doc Rivers a dumbass during the Rockets game. I'm actually almost used to the freakouts now.

Doc was being a dumbass at that time, which most of CTB agreed on. Glen Davis was big in 6 minutes yet Doc plays Hollins and Hedo first off the bench? His rotations have been incredibly shaky lately, but that's another top. Anyways I owned up, no need to call me out further after the fact. Doc made up for some mistakes, glad to be wrong.

Glen Davis was great, but he was also off at times in positioning. Also, even though it was only for 6 minutes, Davis also admitted he was winded and it's obvious even though he's familiar with Doc's system, he still needs a little more time to get used to the players in it. Doc knew what he was doing. I'll go ahead and admit, Doc is slightly a better head coach than I am.

Voted excellent after the last 2 signings. Yeah there were a few missteps (low risk ones), but Doc corrected them.

It was funny seeing Davis running into players on some screens but overall he looked good and its to be expected he needs a few practices to get in the system.

I mean I get it, everybody wants to break open the new toy they just got, I was excited too... but if he's not going in to play when we want him to, we have to trust Doc and understand that he knows what's going on with his team better than we do. Doc is one of the best coaches right now, we gotta give him some trust. Big Baby wasn't game ready in his first game vs the Rockets, he knew it, and Doc knew it.

In Doc we trust.

Hard to argue with Smile. We will get to see him and DG plenty we just have to be patient. We are like kids who can't wait to play with their new Christmas present.

Nearing the trade deadline, I was sh*tting bricks. Once I heard that we got rid of dead weight, especially Mullens, I was very satisfied and relieved. Now that we acquired Big Baby and Granger, I shall applaud, tip my hat, salute, bow, etc. Might fine job, Doc.

Big Baby looked good but really tired... I think Doc is trying to work him into shape slowly. Too many minutes in an important game coulda hurt us, might've started fouling a lot. I'm just happy he's on the team, just want him & DG to help us get the 2 or 3 seed & help us in the playoffs, no rush. We're winning games.

The name of this thread should be changed to "DOC RIVERS GM OF THE YEAR." Any guy who could put together this great roster in one year and stay mostly out of the luxury tax, should be regarded a GM God.

Clippers won at the deadline if you factor in these buyout signings. In the era of this new CBA, this will be the norm for the next couple of years and what Doc just did with Davis and Granger will be the measuring stick for how this part of the season is done. Non contending teams will be shedding contracts to escape tax implications and the richer will just get richer for the last run. I think we have the best roster top to bottom now, we just need JJ to get healthy. I don't care if his first game back is game one of the playoffs, he's important.

He was awful slow in moving but lord he was also impossible for the opposition to move around him. He stat line was not great but jeez, talk about putting a mountain on the court. 'Bout time we got some real beef on this team. I wasn't at the HOU game,I am looking forward to seeing this guy up close (well sort of, i am in the 200s) and personal tomorrow night. LOve to unleash him on Cousins.

Doc just essentially traded BJ Mullens, Antawn Jamison and some cash for Danny Granger, Big Baby Davis and a conditional 2nd round pick.....how is he mediocre?

If Doc wasn't here we would not have CP3, Big Baby, Granger, and probably Barnes & DC. and DJ would have been traded by now. and I think Doc is the one who identified to draft Bullock, too.

You guys are all ridiculous... a bad GM?... first of all i highly doubt he is the one making most of the decisions, second yeah maybe dudley wasn't the best trade but we got redick, signed collision, barnes, and wait....CP3. Those were because of Doc and if Vinny was still here i don't believe that would be the case. Although our record doesn't completely show it, we are a MUCH better team. Doc has made Blake and Deandre way better, and everyone respects doc. And he is the reason we are able to sign Davis and Granger. There is no doubt about it. We got granger over Miami...and the Spurs... That has to say something about what doc means if he is the one calling the players. If releasing bad players for much better ones is being a bad GM, then the rest of the leagues GMs must be horrible. Good Job Doc.

I was just reading bleacher reports sendup of antawn Jamison - he was terrible this year, yes, but I actually do feel kind of crummy how it went down with him. I know it's a business but it is sad.

Funny thing is, everyone hates Mullens now. At the beginning of the season, most of you thought he'd challenge for Jordan's spot. We all thought Dudley and Redick would be great for the team (Redick has aside from injury), and many of you wished the NBA would let us nab Garnett for Jordan. Now we had the audacity to call Doc mediocre for getting rid of his mistake (Mullens), and ending the Antawn experiment without seeing the finished product. We really have picked up all of the Lakers bandwagon, because that's how we've been sounding lately...

Count me in on also wanting the title changed. I think "mediocre" ascribed to GM Doc was premature. Sure, Doc has had a learning curve as this is his first year as a GM, but instead of lambasting our head coach/GM, we ought to let him do his job this year and grade him when the season is over. What's remarkable is that he had the foresight and patience to wait for buyout season to start. There were slim pickings to be had during the off-season and prior to the trade deadline, but a veritable bonanza after, where he was able to make the right moves at the right prices.

Doc got rid of Mullens and Jamison who didn't pan out as expected and replaced them with Glen Davis and Danny Granger. We can hope that Dudley finds his confidence and his shot-making ability. We can also hope that the rest of the team continues to play well and really gel in preparation for the playoffs. When you add a healthy JJ and Jamal, let's see what Doc can do with this powerful Clippers group and just be supportive of the process.

This negative thread title is such a bummer. These are exciting times for Clippers fans and we ought to embrace it instead of finding fault with EVERY little thing.

The thing is, the thread started off using the word "terrible" or "dreadful" or something like that and then as things progressed it got changed to "mediocre".

Come on 86 change it again, you know you want to Wink

"Doc's progress as a GM discussion thread" would work well.......................................... just a suggestion Smile

I don't know why, but I made the mistake of reading more pages of this thread.

I'm laughing at some ppl that was angry that the Clippers/Doc was taking their time filling holes... especially when we have no idea and don't see what's actually going on in the FO.

Do you guys remember when we criticized the FO for taking their time choosing a Head Coach?

If they rushed to pick Mike Malone, Budenholzer, Gentry, Byron Scott, Brian Shaw, or even George Karl a little later... we would've been bummed out about missing out on Doc Rivers. That means no JJ Redick, no Collison... Chris Paul may have signed somewhere else too.
