Jared Dudley approaches Ryan Gomes territory

It wasn't that long ago that the Clippers had a player who was supposed to be a pretty good shooter and a pretty good defender, a glue guy who would provide solid if unspectacular play from the starting small forward position. But for some reason in L.A. he couldn't shoot at all, and then it turned out he wasn't actually a very good defender, couldn't rebound a bit, and generally did little or nothing to help the team. Glue guys do the little things even if they aren't great scorers -- so what do you call a non-scorer who can't do any of the little things? I'd like to coin the term, the goo guy. Rather than holding things together, they just gum up the works.

Ryan Gomes started 62 of 76 games during his first season in L.A. He struggled shooting the ball, and by the second half of his second season with the Clippers he never got off the bench. By that second season his confidence was so far gone that he more or less refused to shoot, even when he was wide open. The Clippers eventually requested amnesty waivers on him, and he's played 34 minutes of NBA basketball since March of 2012.

Jared Dudley's recent performances are beginning to remind me more and more of Gomes. He's not scoring much (he hasn't been in double figures in over a month, 18 straight games) but almost more disconcerting, he's not even shooting. He's 7-35 from three point range since January 22, and he just looks like a player with zero confidence. He went to the free throw line at the start of the fourth quarter with a chance to stem the tide of a Thunder run that was 13-4 at the time and missed a pair. I'm about ready to see all of his minutes go to Reggie Bullock, who at least played aggressive defense and wasn't afraid to shoot the ball today (though he was 0-4). Or is it time to take a look at Ronnie Brewer?

Do you guys agree with Steve Perrin?

Dudley blew past the Caron Butler territory and straight into the Ryan Gomes territory like he was Usain Bolt.

It's been said and has been obvious for quite sometime he needs to be shut down. If there is any hope in his game that its ALL on knee injury then shut him down now and let him return with JJ in mid-March and let the team try to finish and gel healthy. His game now needs to be all in the mid range area.

Even dudley has said his knee is 100 percent. This team isn't a good fit for him. I wish him well but hope he can find a new home this summer. Need to get younger and/or more athletic at the 3. Doc knows that.

Reggie bullock was poor offensively today but I loved his hustle, and defense.

His offense will look stagnant temporarily til he gets more minutes and finds his niche in the NBA and gets his confidence up. Only way this happens is by playing a lot more of him. I want Barnes to start, and Bullock to come off the bench for him. Dudley could sit there and get the scrap minutes during a blowout

What ever happened is a mystery, but at this point his confidence just seems shot. He'll be gone next year unless a unless the guy we thought we traded for all of a sudden re-appears. Good luck with that I guess.

Yeah, Dudley's confidence is shot. I hope he finds the fortitude to get through this awful phase (and I hope this is only a phase) and be the player that we all thought he would be.

Nah I hope we get someone better somehow. Even if Dudley reaches his ceiling.

Dudley should read this. He has been a complete and utter disgrace.

Gotta give credit to Jarca... he coined the term "Gomes 2.0" before anyone else.

Garbage minutes only for Duds until he gets his shite together.

Dudley has been the biggest disappointment this season.

Guys like Mullens you already know he sucks, there's nothing disappointing there. Jamison was an old man, nothing disappointing, and Jackson again a guy who wasn't even signed until mid way through the seaosn. They aren't disappointing because the expectations are non existent.

Dudley on the other hand hasn't been a good role player. First he couldn't shoot on the road, now he can't shoot at all. If the team can get Granger, might as well just DNP-CD him for the rest of the year, though of course that does nothing to help you in trying to trade him later.

On the bright side he actually rebounded well today. Too little too late.

He also did a bit of standing around on D.

A blow up doll or my dear departed dog are better that Gomes. BTW he was a t a game recently

Isn't Gomes on OKC's roster now?

Edit: Ah, my bad... he was cut. I guess that's one of the reasons why OKC is considered elite.

The good news: We payed him to f*ck off, too. Sign of an elite team.

He's looked so damn slow out there. I hope he redeems himself soon before the playoffs. If we get rid of him, at least some value would be nice.

As far as Bullock playing SF or SG "No rookies on the wood" Don Nelson. We saw rookie mistakes.

Clearly what I was thinking today. Duds is so slow and is a 2nd Gomes over again.

I think Dudley is good as bench player not a starter.

he knows how to shoot the ball the numbers says it all(other years) but who knows what's happening in his life...off the court.

who knows maybe he'll do better in the playoff...??? nahh lol

Ryan Gomes was in shape more or less. Jared Dudley looks horrible running up and down the court.

So he is worse than Gomes.

It's fun y how everyone ripped on me for saying he was out of shape and kept saying that was just "his shape." Looks like people finally opened their eyes that "his shape" is out of shape, lol
