I was just wondering if any other fans are glad to see Doc walking up and down the sidelines coaching our team. Am I the only one , no matter what the score, that smiles....

Good. I just love his edge. I smile when he chews out the Refs. He gets way with it too. He doesn't back down and that is what this team needs to do. I remember....

I know there are more than 2 fans on this forum who are glad to see Doc on the sidelines but your thread just hasn't got going YET.

Haha you aren't the only one Smile. Although I don't like how the league favors the coaches and players that keep berating and whining to the refs. It looks pretty petty at times but that's the way it is.

I've been an avid watcher of the Clippers since the last few years of Dunleavy sr's reign in town... Seeing us go from VDN to Doc Rivers puts a bit of joy into my basketball life. I love our offense now; I love what we're trying to do on defense; most of all, I love that we have a coach that can support and motivate the team. What a great trade we had this year with the cetlics.

I love seeing Doc on the sidelines too. Sometimes it's like a pinch-me-am-I-dreaming moment when I see him there doing his coaching thing. He looks so legit.

I've only been watching since the VDN era (late to the party, lol, but I'm here nonetheless) and it is night and day to go from Vinnie to Doc. The championship road is much clearer with Doc at the helm.

A great coach gets respect from his players without asking. He commands their attention. They buy in. Doc's reputation, past accomplishments, and recent nifty moves as GM, solidifies his stature with the Clippers. The team will follow his lead. It is fun to watch.

Aside from my favorite clipper coach, Larry Brown, who could get THE MOST out of what we had from his players, Doc Rivers is my second all time CLIPS coach. But if he gets us....

Very. Although I've made gripes about shakier than usual rotations lately, he's pretty much been as good as advertised. More important even than the strategy/gameplan improvement... he's helped Blake and DJ take their games to new levels. I was a HUGE Vinny basher because I KNEW he was holding the players and team back. When Blake of all guys on the team is calling out your defensive schemes, you know there's a problem.

With Doc I've gotten annoyed with a couple minor things... but so much better than Vinny,it's astounding.

Yeah, seeing Doc on the sidelines for the first time this year, I had to stop and think, "This is really happening!"

Hahah! One of the greatest things to happen to this team already, especially when it comes to attracting FAs. Not only would they play in LA, but they get to play for Doc.

If we can hold up the defense and rebounding like the Houston game and better even more happy. May not have been our best defensive game but one of our better recent ones.

I love Doc, but I have to hold my judgment until playoffs. This is where we can see if Doc Rivers live up to his billing and gave us a championship ring. WCF and greater or bust!

If we don't make it to WCF, I wouldn't call it a bust.

It's his first year with the team, and the team hasn't really pinned the defensive system yet. Not to mention we haven't had the starting lineup together for a solid amount of time. I hope we win the whole thing, but I wouldn't call it a disappointment or bust if we don't. I would just have to give credit to Doc already, I mean all you really have to do is compare this team to last season's. Getting to the WCF or Finals will take more than Doc. The whole team has to do it together.

I think one reason Doc is so hard on refs is because his backup isn't to shabby himself. So if he gets thrown out. You know Alvin Gentry will just take the reigns

Bust may be too harsh a word for not making it out of the 2nd round again, but it would be a major disappointment. A blow in the earning respect department from the media...again.

your ok with not getting past the 2nd round in 3 straight years? I'm pretty sure the front office isn't. Or Chris Paul. Change will definitely come if that happens IMO

It would definitely be a disappointment, but not with Doc... no way this team splits and rebuild after whatever it is that happens.

Maybe we lose Crawford regardless of how it goes, but I don't see us losing DJ.

Most likely a trip to the western conference championship game would ensure that this roster stays intact.

Doc has transformed this team, all last 3 season at the bottom of the league in 3pt defense, and now the very BEST. That plus DJ, our general defense, our offense, our Composure during opponent runs, our late game execution, our out of timeout plays, our Stone Cold demeanor in neck-to-neck games...

the core has had a whole year to learn Doc's system. We even added Davis for the bench and Granger to chip in and compete for the starting small forward spot. Last year we could legitimately make the excuse that we had a good team but an average coach, now that's not the case. We went out and got the best coach out there, and we even upgraded at the wings from last year. If we don't make it to the WCF this year will be a bust.

I get what you're saying, but we're just talking about Doc.

My point is, he already transformed this team... if we don't make it to those expectations, it's a whole team thing, not just Doc.

Doc can't go out there and help defend, or rebound the ball. I think we're forgetting, the thread topic is about Doc.

Is it just me that noticed that it is easier for a team to get a superstar player than to have a great coach like doc or pop? or was it always been this way??

Doc is that voice, that leader, that champion we needed to get us further than we've ever been. Glad he chose us and not anyone else.

You've got to admit it ... what Doc Rivers has done with Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan is absolute magic! No disrespect to Vinny Del Negro, but if the Clippers had kept him, they'd still be stuck in the middle of the playoff hunt and would've had no real shot at contention. He's changed the entire culture - starting with covering up the Laker banners on Clippers game days..

Can't be just me ... right??

Doc has turned our defense around, from last in 3pt defense to top 5 that's the biggest improvement IMO!

No, it wasn't just you. While the record from Vinny's reign wasn't much different from what Doc has accomplished so far what has changed a lot is the growth of Blake and Deandre. Many people here were calling for the ouster of Vinny because we had a feeling that a top tier coach like Doc could mold and develop these players much better. Also, as others here have noted Doc's ability to change many things here was even given a vote of confidence by DTS. So much in fact that DTS even expanded Doc's role from simply head coach to VP.

This was huge. It was our achilles heel last year, and it was a key reason why we ended up with the 4th seed. We would lose a lot of easy games to teams like Cleveland because they would be allowed to shoot beyond the arc without contest.

Let's not forget about Mr. Alvin Gentry. You gotta give him his credit when it comes to Blake's development offensively.

It's nice to know that we have Doc & Alvin for the next 3 years. Best trade in Clippers franchise history was getting Doc

Chris was our most important trade in franchise history though.

Doc Rivers has been a great leader & coach for the team. I would give a lot of credit to Blake Girffin & DeAndre Jordan themselves for working hard to improve, however, in addition to Doc's guidance.

yeah, but unfortunately for us, most of the teams in the west got stronger as well. This includes GSW, Rockets, and most would argue SA and OKC got better as well.

I agree with you. I'm shocked that some teams actually haven't done as well as I projected. at the start of the season I expected us and GSW to be battling for 1st and 2nd.

I haven't posted much lately, but I had to comment here...just having Doc's presence over this entire franchise has been nothing short of miraculous so far. Having followed this team for twenty-plus years, Doc took this franchise to another level and we still have more to accomplish. I was more or less thinking about this very thing earlier today, and anyone who has followed the Clippers at least since the move to Staples that the transformation has to be traced back to Mike Dunleavy. No other coach prior to Dunleavy, as far as I can remember, wielded a lot of power within the orgranization like he did. There's no really need to harp on things he did wrong (or right), but he essentially laid the foundation for what the Clippers have today, without a doubt. With Doc, you can say the Clippers have "grown up" as an organization.

I wanted to start this topic to give Doc props and to shout him out for what seems to be a great year for the clippers. Since Doc has come into the organization we have improved every year. Two years ago we were almost dead last in protecting the 3 point line. This past year we were first in protecting the three point line and we did that with just having him for a year. DJ improved immensely and prob still have a lot more to improve. During this off season people started to kind of bash Doc for not doing this and not doing that but like others said on the forum he did the best he could. In my eyes once again he improved our biggest weakness last semester back up bigs. We got spencer hawes and big baby Davis. That to me is a good back up set of bigs. I think Doc deserves a little more praise and props because he has done a great job as a coach and as a GM and with time and practice like anything else I expect him to improve being a GM. With that being said I applaud DOC RIVERS

What we all have to guard against is "Lakers Disease" or L.D.

L.D. is a debilitating and delusional mindset that brands any year without a chip a failure. With a thirty team League, twenty-nine teams will think they are failures-- if their fans catch the dreaded L.D. The problem is that Lakers fans conveniently forget that they did not win titles almost 70% of the time. As if Smush Parker never existed. Everyone should realize how hard it is to win an NBA title. Just ask LeBron after this year.

The best inoculation for L.D. is having an exciting team, a winning team and realizing that your team -- with breaks -- can win it all. Knowing that your Vegas bet for the Clips to be Champions will be in play through, at least, the first playoff round -- and maybe more.

If you use that standard, which any sane person should adopt, Doc has more than delivered. Yes, there was some luck -- drafting BG comes to mind -- but any success story includes some luck. And we will need even more luck to win the title this coming year.

But, from my personal -- and just about any -- perspective, Doc has given Los Angeles sports fans an exciting and winning alternative to watching the idiot son of a genius ruin the other NBA team in town.

Thanks, Doc!!!
