If you look at the top 8 teams, in the west... They are really good. I could see, even OKC getting knocked in the first. But, what team should the clippers, go up against..

Me, the teams i'm scared of in the west, that the clippers, might face could be houston and dallas. Even though dallas is in the 7th, they are good. Houston, because of dwight. He is the best center. The team i wish we go up against, i think should be, goldenstate, and portland.

This is what i think

On the contrary for me, don't know why, but GS has our number so AVOID Golden State, we beat Houston 3 times already, and Dallas never really challenged us we beat them as well, those are my picks.

Houston is by far the least of our problems. Goldenstate shouldn't be a problem! Blazers, I'll like that match up. In the end, it shouldn't matter who we face. If we have our game face and defense together that shows we belong here and not just pretenders.

we allow golden to take advantage not that we can't win because I feel in a series we can. We choked a lot of times and that was extremely frustrating. Our problem are protecting the paint and the 3line.

I'd love Houston or Mavs. Those would be my first two choices...Choose the order if you like.

I agree. Dallas or Houston in 1st Round. I am not really afraid with anyone in the West. I just do not like Memphis or Golden State in First Round. I think OKC could possibly....

I WANT MEMPHIS, OR GOLDEN STATE. I'm not scared and neither should they be. I remember MJ's Bulls having to get through Detroit and Boston before they started winning Chips. I know GS and Memphis hasn't won anything, but as far as being a thorn in our side, Memphis, GS, and SA fill the bill. If were seriously going to talk about the Clippers being able to get to the Final's and being able to win it all. We have to beat one if not all of those teams just for the confidence to believe that they have what it takes. I think they can beat Memphis and GS no problem, I know they've lost to both teams this year but regular season wins can be circumstantial and really don't hold much weight going into the Post Season. I Believe in this team "Right Now" more than I ever have at any point of my Clipper Fandom. This team has what it takes to beat anybody, so with that I'm not scared of nobody. So Who should they want to play, I don't give two craps, because were going to beat anybody they put in front of us. NOW MAN THE HELL UP, THIS IS NO TIME TO BE SCARED.

i want us to stay n the fourth seed because we get

to go against Houston then if PHO or Dallas defeats OKC

we would go against one of them

in other words, lets AVOID GSW haha

Post season are as much matchups as anything else. Few teams matchup well against every opponent you can throw at them, so sure, a more favorable matchup would be nice. Dallas and Houston seem favorable, and I don't mind Portland.

Why would they Phoenix or Dallas just beat OKC though, and why is GS automatically winning their first round matchup?

I'd like to win as many games as possible, but I can see the debate. While the most wins means HCA, if you get a bad matchup and loose earlier, having HCA against the #3 seed for example becomes irrelevant because you're out. Still, control what you can, your wins, and let the rest play out.

Can't go in scared of anyone, and no team has such a matchup advantage against us where we're hopeless

If we will go up to 2 the possibility is Memphis, they might dislodge the Suns or Dallas, but looks like they will be in 7 or 8 at the end of regular season. if we are in number 3 possible is Warriors and if we are at 4 Portland or Rockets. But I think whoever is there we will play and try to go to second round. I don't care.

One of the things that really worries me about the West is that three of the teams (Houston, Portland, GSW) rely heavily on three pointers and could get really lucky in a series and pull an upset if they make a high percentage of their shots.

Anybody. By then Granger and Big Baby will be accustomed to the system. Jamal will be healthy, hopefully we'll get JJ back. CP will play with a chip on his shoulder no pun intended..

My thoughts are exact opposite as yours... Dallas and Houston are probably the best matchup for us. Mavs don't got any athleticism, I can see us beating them in 4-5 games. Dwight is the best center, but it's not like he produced these stats by playing against players with similar physical attributes as him every game. I believe DJ can limit his impact. And as much as Harden can put up points, he gives up a lot on defense. With Cp3 on, I can see JJ or Crawford just shooting open 3s entire series.

Blazers, Suns, and GS are dangerous, but I wouldn't mind playing them. Nobody can stop Blazers offensively when they're hot, but they can't stop anybody defensively either. Suns would be intriguing since I don't think anyone can keep up with Bledsoe / Dragic's speed, but they got nobody else who can step up and produce consistently. GS is a Blazers team that can play very good defense. Only way we lose to them is if they can somehow play consistent offense for at least 5 games.

Only team I'd avoid is Memphis. They're the only team that doesn't need to double-team Paul and Blake. Conley, Allen, Gasol, Randolph are all capable of guarding our stars 1 on 1.

I know it's nice to just chat about the team and sports and all that and that what ifs are quite fun but this thread seems a bit weird. Who SHOULD we face??????????? We all know it doesn't work like that so why waste the energy.

Houston, Dallas or Portland would be a dream!

Anybody who thinks GSW, MEM or PHX would be any easier clearly hasn't watched our games this season.

I do not think you should "Try" to play a certain team. That means you aren't thinking about the right thing. My basketball philosophy is this. Do Not Worry About Opponents, Make The Opponents Worry....

How is Houston or Portland more ideal, they have marginally better record than us, the West is so stacked there are no easy matchups, it would be a tough run from round 1 to the finals for whoever that can get that far

We should try and play the lowest seed possible bc that means we are playing the best we can going into the playoffs. Don't worry about strategically playing a certain team. Remember in 07 when Dallas purposely lost so they would get to play golden state instead of us in the first round and then eventually got knocked out by them? That Is the kind of BS you shouldn't be concerning yourself with in sports. Go out and play like you're going to beat anyone every single night, which we can.

Anybody but Memphis. It's not that I don't think we can beat them, but Blake and CP tend to get hurt vs them. They try to beat up Blake and they hound CP.

We need them healthy throughout the playoffs.

JQuick32

Bad example. They didn't worry ENOUGH about playing a certain team. They tanked to get their worst possible matchup, a Warriors team that had already swept them in the regular season that year and was going to be playing with house money.

That's why all the people saying matchups don't matter are wrong-headed. Do we really want to face Memphis again and watch as the refs allow their thug players to injure our team? Do we really want to face Golden State and watch as Curry hits every bullshit three on us and the refs allow Mark Jackass to get away with his bitchmade tactics? Do we really want to face the Spurs again and see CP3 disappear and Pop's system dismantle our defense? Those are the three teams we need to avoid at all costs because I really don't see us beating them. Doesn't make us a bad team or a pretender, it's just that every team has teams that they don't match up well with.

We are 3-0 against HOU and 1-1 against POR with them needing a miracle 3 to send the first game to OT.

Conversely we are 1-2 against GSW and MEM and 0-1 against PHX (at home). Now as much as PHX might be an anomaly (we'll find out this week), if you're telling me you'd rather face the thugs who damaged our guys the last 2 years or the team we're 2-6 against in our last 8 games, as opposed to teams we've practically owned recently, I think you need your head examined.

Of course there are no "easy" matchups, but some are easier than others for the Clippers. Isn't that, after all, what this thread is about?

I don't think we should "try" to face a specific opponent. I think we should just win as many more games as possible, and head into the playoffs with the mentality of championship team looking to win it all.

I don't really get why most of you are afraid facing GSW....they have a predictable offense which is of course curry...if we shut him down then we win...i bet chris paul could do that no problem..i know clips played bad last game with them but we played back to back it was a schedule loss...

My head is fine, hows yours? we are also 1-1 against OKC so does that make them a preferred matchup as well lol

You are kidding yourself if you think hou/port will be a cakewalk compared to those lower seeds, their overall regular season records are on par with us and suggests regardless of past success are still very good teams and capable of beating us in a PO series more so than memp/phx/gsw.

Anyways since you mention it this thread is weak, to suggest we want a preferred matchup is to acknowledge that we are not good enough to beat any team at anytime and if that is true then we are not going far even if we make it pass 1st round.

Personally I rather see us face our demons, beat them and get that monkey off our backs so we can push on and challenge WCF.

No they tanked the second to last game so that they wouldn't be facing us in the playoffs. They wanted GSW over us. They sat their stars against GSW so they would get the win they needed to have a better record than us.

Anyone but GSW. Playoffs is all about matchups, and we match up terribly with the warriors, they have our number, plain and simple. Other than that the only teams I'm scared of in the west are OKC and SA. Portland would be a tough series but I think we can pull it out. Houston/phoenix/dallas would be ideal

Are people actually arguing over this? The teams that make the playoffs in the West are all gonna be tough, why argue about it? We whooped Memphis in the regular season last year, but didn't mean anything in the playoffs. Every team will be tough, regardless of what happens in the regular season.

I think the point is to state who you think will be better opponents based on your opinions. Why jump all over people you disagree with?

How is that different from what I said?

Avery Johnson was an idiot and ended up intentionally getting their worst matchup in the first round, which is why they had one of the biggest playoff meltdowns in NBA history. They should have been MORE concerned about which matchups were good for them and which were bad in order to avoid choking to a Warriors team that owned them in the regular season AND playoffs.

I want to face Memphis, then GSW, then SA, then anyone from the East. What better way to win our first championship then beating those teams? Ultimate bragging rights and one hell of a story!

That being said, I hope GSW doesn't even make the playoffs! Living up north, I can't stand their cocky for nothing fans. I'm sick of that stupid bridge logo too

No one. No team outside of the Thunder or Spurs scare me at all. Try to grab the 2nd or 3rd seed and get HCA. That Is all. Only the Griz trouble me slightly since I am afraid they might injure our players.

Barring a disaster or extremely hot shooting every game the Warriors have a very very slim chance of winning. They have a mediocre offense. Even a terrible offense at times when they shoot poorly.

roll

Once again... nobody is saying any team is a "cakewalk".

And no, Houston's 0-3 record against us and overall record does not suggest that they are capable of beating us... it "suggests" that they are capable of beating many teams, but would probably prefer to avoid the Clippers since we appear to hold the key to beating them.

Memphis and GSW have beaten us 2/3 times each... better than their overall records against the rest of the league, which "suggests" that they present particular matchup problems against a better overall team.

Personally, I don't think we have any "demons", but that's not to say it wouldn't be better for our guys to win a series in 4 or 5 instead of 6 or 7 and come out injured in the process. Both MEM and GSW have employed dirty tactics to beat us in the recent past and I believe that they would have no reservations about doing so again. Would we be favored to beat them? ...absolutely. Would it be a war of attrition that might damage our chances in SUBSEQUENT rounds? ...probably.

There's a reason that great coaches like Pop and Doc talk about health being the number one factor going into the playoffs. It stands to reason that the longer a team can maintain good health during the playoffs will only increase their chances of going further.

If you can't comprehend the concept of good and bad matchups that's fine, but there's no need to bash the entire thread because others disagree with your opinion. Considering how "stupid" and "weak" you think this topic is, you sure don't seem to have a problem chiming in with your own 2 cents.

Last team I want to play is Memphis just because they're dirty and will try to hurt guys on the way to their vacation. GS is not a good first round match up for us and they look like a lock for the 6th seed. Would be happy to end up as the 4th seed and play Portland or Houston with OKC in 2nd round. We probably move up from there but a lower seed in this case is probably better for us.

Spurs are scarier than OKC for me so again the 4th seed would be better than 2nd or 3rd seed.

I browse that forum. Rockets fans are piss scared of us and a lot of them actually prefer to face the Thunder or Spurs over us. I remember seeing a poll where the Clippers placed first as the team the Rockets don't want to face in the playoffs.

We do matchup very well against the Rockets. The Rockets love chucking 3s and we are very good at guarding 3s. The Rockets play fast but we arguably do that better and our transition defense is great. The Rockets turn the ball over a lot. We get a lot of fastbreak points off TOs. The Rockets have Dwight. DJ usually limits him.

The Rockets are weak at the PF spot and Blake can take advantage of that. Harden plays no defense. Redick and Crawford can take advantage of that, etc.

shooting teams can get hot, but they historically have limits. During last years matchup between GSW and Spurs Magic Johnson commented that the Spurs would win, and his reasoning was "what happens when all those shots aren't falling?" Magic touched up on a crucial issue that shooting teams may win some games with the 3, but eventually that shooting can't be sustained. As much as GSW and Portland can pose a problem I do feel that in series we can beat them. My greater fear is more of Memphis, who plays dirty style of basketball and wins the game by the free throws. still as others here have mentioned I want to face Memphis and GSW to let those franchises know they don't own us

Best case: Houston->Portland->spurs/OKC

Realistically: Houston->OKC->Spurs/Blazers

As our path to the finals. I think we match up incredibly well with Houston and Portland. If we're 4th, I hope OKC gets Memphis to wear them down.
