I have never seen a player get into so many altercations. I don't think DeMarcus Cousins has. Lawler once mentioned that Blake wasn't very nice to he and Mike till this year.

Fareed, Bogut, the throat guy, Zbo. the punch guy last game. Jermaine. Mark Jackson. Refs. Cousins doesn't count. I'm sure I've missed some.

I think he may be a part of the problem

KG's trash talking probably got him that championship.

Didn't he get into it with Varejao? or was that last season? It was when Blake was hovering over Varejao in a loss against.

same here. Mike Smith is like the biggest Blake Griffin fanboy. Never hinted that he doesn't like him.

I remember Ralph making that statement during one of the games, but I think it was more of sarcastic statement.

Considering Garnett has actually won a championship and gone to two NBA Finals, I wouldn't go as far to say that "it hasn't gotten him anywhere".

I've always respected Garnett, not because of his behavior (which is abhorrent), but because he wholeheartedly embraces his thuggery and doesn't apologize for it.

No the Celtics being a great team got him that championship.

My point is you don't need to trash talk. Just let your game do the talking like Duncan. KG wishes he was the playoff performer Duncan was. Duncan usually got the better of him head to head.

Sure Duncan had better teams but he was also the better player especially in the postseason.

I wouldn't call what he does as thuggery, more like cowardly. He uses the power of words to get into people's heads. But the moment it escalates further, or someone retaliates in a physical manner, he shrivels up and backs down. That isn't a thug, that's a guy who's all talk knowing he'll be pulled away the moment it gets physical...A punk if you will.

You can get into your opponents head by making it impossible for him to guard you.

byron russel once said he can guard jordan. How did that work?? Point being trash talking doesn't win you championships.

He doesn't back down when it escalates further though, at least as far as I know. He's not a punk, he's actually got toughness. Just because he doesn't join in throwing the punches doesn't mean he's a coward. Why should he, when the guy who tries to retaliate will get thrown out in all likelihood? If your opponent is acting stupid, don't join them in their stupidity. I have no doubt in my mind that if he got in a situation where fighting somehow was actually the best option, he would do it wholeheartedly.

Nothing wrong with using words to get into people's heads if they're so thin skinned it will actually effect their play. Does he cross the line a lot when he does his trash talk? Absolutely, but with a few exceptions (he said he never called Villanueva is the one coming to mind right now), he's owns his talk and doesn't apologize.

From what I've seen, DeMarcus Cousins doesn't own his actions, but instead just blames the other team or some nonsense. Instead of trying to get in Blake's head, he complains to the media that Blake is "babied". Instead of being the one to make others lose their cool, he's the one that loses his cool. He and Garnett don't share much in common. If anything, he's the sort of player Garnett probably goes after the most when it comes to trash talking.

"I'm a passionate player. If you don't like the way I am ... I play this way the last 15, 16 years. I leave it on the court." Those are Garnett's words, and I respect him for not trying to pretend to be anything else other than who he is.

Say all you want about him being a punk, but I'll take a so-called punk who owns up to who he is and what he says over someone like Paul George, who's so stupidly buddy-buddy that he wants one of his supposed rivals (Lebron) to tutor him.

By all accounts he is a great, Midwestern guy. I doubt he is a jerk to lawler and smith. They love him.
