I am still high off of this Mavericks Game , but this Clippers team showed me something last night. Through all the adversity, fouls, bad calls, and technical fouls the Clippers had composure. This same team last year would have collapsed not only last night , but the two other times we have played the Mavericks. The Clippers looked like a team made for a long playoff run. Yes, It also helps when you have strength and composure at the helm of your team in Doc Rivers. He was barking loudly at the refs the entire game , no techs. Its helps to have a respected coach. Spurs have that in Pop and I think the Clippers and Spurs are the only two teams that have a coach that can get away with so much barking.

Clippers Stars Showed Up and Shut Dallas's Stars Down. That Is how you win playoff games. When Chris and Blake play at that level and our role guys contribute effectively and efficiently the Clippers are the team to beat.

We Played Defense! WoW Oh WoW! What Can The Clippers Do When They Play DEFENSE! That Is the only thing missing from this team is their ability to play defense. If we played defense like we do at the end of games , the entire game. Scary Good!

Chris Paul is a Star. Blake Griffin is a Star. We know this , but in the playoffs they have to play like one. The day where Chris and Blake can dominate on the same night consistently. This game still haunts me because we were so close , but look

Blake Griffin 35 points 11 Rebounds and Chris Paul 34 Points 16 assist!!! Those are two stars playing at star levels. We need that come playoff time. Last Night, this team showed me everything I thought of. You get a JJ Reddick back and get the team healthy. Heck maybe Duds starts playing well. The possibilities are limitless for our Clippers.

We looked made for a long playoff run that should end in a banner. So Lets all get ready for this long playoff run we are about to make.

This wasn't something I cared about earlier this season, but I'm starting to get very worried about CP3's 3 point shooting.

He was never terrific from deep, but it has been complete non-factor this season. It's obvious that teams are finding more success guarding Paul's penetration to the basket because they give him so much room at the 3 point line. This is the first time he has a major weakness that opponents can successfully exploit off of.

The Mavs game was a good sign, but he really needs to keep that up in able to pose a threat in the Playoffs.

Agreed. When you're entire shooting shoulder gets separated its kind of hard to get enough power behind the ball to get it to the rim. I give Chris a pass on jumpers. You're entire shooting side has been decimated. Shoulder separated and thumb sprained. Thise has huge affects on strength and form. I give him a pass

Not sure I agree about last years team being one to fold either. This team has always shown fight, it's something you get with a Chris Paul led team. These comebacks have been filtered around through the Clippers recent history.

I mean every (non sucky) team will have games where they are down and comeback, so let's not get that twisted, but this team has always shown that fight.

Actually a bit different. He was shooting like 28% over the first 15-20 games of the season, might not be 28% but I know it was under 30%, then picked it up and shot like 42% for the next 15 or so games, then after injury has struggled, and lately he seems to be picking it back up.

Just thinking about seeding and 2nd seed would really be nice, but that would most likely require an 8-0 finish.

Clippers have 8 games remaining, 8-0 would mean 60 wins.

Thunder have 10 games remaining, 7-3 would mean 60 wins. If the Clippers go 8-0, they will also be beating OKC and will end the season series 3-1, so tie breaker is obviously theirs, and that's 1 loss for OKC. OKC is also playing SA which could be another possible loss, but they are at home. They also have Indiana on the road, but Indiana is 8-8 in March and they aren't necessarily just losing to difficult teams, so it's questionable what level they are at right now, and after winning 4 in a row, they are 2-4 in their last 6.

They also play @Houston, so that's another possible loss depending on is Dwight is back.

Clippers play:

@Minnesota

@Phoenix

Dallas

LA Lakers

OKC

Sacramento

Denver

@Portland

On the road vs Phoenix and Portland will be hard. OKC is obviously a good team, and Dallas will come out fighting with how the other games have gone this season. That's still a schedule where 8-0 is possible, but with Blake having back spasms and all the other injury complications, that might be quite difficult.

CP3's 3 point shooting was definitely influenced by his shoulder injury. Now it looks a lot better.

Last year's team absolutely folded... some examples:

  • The Heat game when CP3 came back from his injury - didn't even put up a fight.

  • The Raptors game when Caron pulled that bush-league stunt at the end of the game.

  • The Spurs game after the All-Star Break... CP3 completely disappeared and we got smoked.

  • The Kings game when we got blown out and let them hit a ton of threes on us.

  • The blowout loss to the Rockets when Harden was out.

  • The last four games of the Memphis series.

The only loss I can think of this year that even compares to some of last year's embarrassments is the first Suns game... that's it, really.

That's a pretty tough schedule to end the season. Not sure I'd want to tire guys out just to have a chance at 2nd.

I feel like the Clips / Blazers game will decide if they're playing in the playoffs. If Clips win, we play 6th seed Blazers. If Clips lose, we play 6th seed GS.

Although I am late to the dance (and some have called me a bandwagoner), I feel that no matter who the Clippers play, with a Big Three of CP3, BG and DeAndre, the Finals are in the Clippers future. The Finals could be rough if LeBron is in it cos the League wants him to three-peat and the refs could make a difference. Hopefully, Indiana will get rid of them.

I might add a Thank You to Clippers fans here as no one has given me any grief for joining at this point in time. (In fact I got one REP.) Classy. I have gotten more hate speak from the Lakers fans, many of whom have acted as though I have committed mass murder.

You are very brave to support the Clips so openly, I am not at all surprised that the Laker fans have gone at you. After all you have broken an unwritten rule, not sure how I feel about it myself. But live and let live is a good policy.

Considering the Heat set a record for least team FTA in a seven-game series in the Finals last year, I don't see the refs being a factor. LeBron's not Kobrick or Durant, he doesn't need BS calls to win. In fact, just like Blake, he gets screwed out of calls he should get because of his size and strength.

I'd be more worried about reffing vs. OKC. With the calls Durant gets, it's clear the league is trying to elevate him above LBJ.

I will say outside of the GS game back in December the Mav's game was the WORST officiated game of the year. I mean how many times do the refs get to make bad calls that can affect the outcome of a game before they are reprimanded? I agree, the fight we showed late was promising. The thought of having our team at full strength heading into the playoffs is very appealing. I could care less who we face in the playoffs, ideally I'd like to face Memphis first only to dismantle them and then face GS in the 2nd round to embarrass the crap out of them. I realize this isn't likely however I would like to serve a heaping platter of revenge to both teams as to silence any critics out there.

I agree with this. Durant gets way more calls in his favor than Lebron. I have seen Ibaka hit Lebron several times including his nose(caused a nosebleed) and there was no call lol. The OKC refs are the worst.

Stick figure is babied by refs more than anyone.

I'm not sure I can say bad losses are necessarily a correlation to a team that folds. We also beat the Spurs in a blow-out last season, but I wouldn't refer to them as a team that folds. Paul shouldn't have been playing in that Heat game last season IIRC, or was that the Warriors one?

...but just to be clear, everyone hit a ton of three's on the Clippers last season, that's why the Clippers were 23rd in opponent 3PM and 26th in opponent 3PT%. It doesn't matter much to me though, if you feel they were, sure, that's perfectly fine.

It's not too bad, 5 home games, 3 road games. It's difficult for 8-0, so I'm not expecting that, but it's a good schedule to go 6-2 if the team was healthy. Now, I don't know.

I am originally from NYC. There, many Yankees fans also rooted for the Mets when they were in serious contention. I guess city won out over team. (Of course, there were the Yankee Haters who would rather die than root for the Yankees.)

I feel that city trumps team. I want the Clips to knock off Miami and win the title for my city. Simple as that. The Lakers surely aren't gonna do it.

OKC has a back to back coming up vs Spurs and Rockets. They also play at the Staples Center one more time vs the Clippers. It's conceivable that if we win out the rest of the games, we could still pass up the Thunder for the #2 seed. Playing Dallas or Phoenix would be nice, but of course destiny will probably result in Memphis there waiting if we get to #2.

If we get the 2nd spot, which is way closer than before, who should we play? This is an if scenario. Memphis Phoenix and Dallas are tied for the 7th spot. What matchup favors the most

2014 Playoffs are so close right now. Clippers really are playing for home-court.... But in the NBA Finals... Correct Me if I am wrong , but if you have the better record than the other team you meet in the NBA Finals. You receive Home Court, Correct?

With Portland and GS so close. Clips could face either , but with Clips and OKC. Clips could play Dallas or Memphis if they move up in standings. I believe the teams in the playoffs will stand as is because I believe Phoenix is done, but Dallas and Memphis could run out of gas.

I really believe OKC gets upset by Dallas or Memphis in the First Round. Meaning if we defeat the Warriors/Portland(if they drop) we will face a Memphis Team, a Dallas team, or an OKC team beat up by Memphis.

If the Clippers go through Golden State, Memphis/Oklahoma City, and San Antonio to the NBA Finals... I believe they win it all.

Cannot Wait 2014 Playoffs

#ItsTime.

How Do You Guys Do The Playoffs? I was not here for last years playoffs. Do you guys do one thread a series like

"Clippers vs Warriors First Round 2014" or a thread each game like the regular season?

Sorry, I may not be on much because I am having back issues ( possible spinal fracture or bulging disk and muscle sprain/strain on top of that a pinched nerve ) got MRI yesterday so keep me in you guys's thoughts and prayers Very Happy I do not think its to bad. I'll still be on here. I think Clipper injuries affect the fans too lol. I keep calling myself Reddick because of back issues Very Happy

As it stands, San Antonio looks like they are gonna have it rough in the playoffs. First round they match up with Memphis, who they swept last year, but we know what their defense is capable of. And after that, they will probably play Houston, who took the season series 3:1 against them this year.

Best of luck on your ailments.

Call me crazy but I'd rather play gsw out of that list. Spurs have a tough road, Dallas is deceptively good, Memphis is too low. Stay in third, hope OKC gets torn up first round, wait for the spurs to tire, hca against Miami or Indiana.

Best case (and most realistic) Playoff scenario for Clips (imo):

First Round

1 (Spurs) vs 8 (Memphis) - Spurs win series, but get banged up in process.

2 (Thunder) vs 7 (Mavericks) - Dallas upsets Thunder.

3 (Clippers) vs 6 (Portland) - Clippers in 5

4 (Houston) vs 5 (Golden-State) - Toss up, but I'd pick Houston over GS, especially if they get P.Bev back.

Second Round

(1) Spurs vs (4) Houston - Houston wins series

(7) Mavericks vs (3) Clippers - Clippers win with Home-Court Advantage

IN summary, I feel like the 'easiest' path for us would be to get the Trailblazers first round (and avoid the hyped and rowdy showboating Warriors), and from there hope we end up with whoever upsets the Thunder, earning us Home-Court-Advantage the rest of the way - assuming the Thunder do get upset.

Teams to avoid in First Round: Golden-State, Memphis.

Teams to Avoid in Second Round: Spurs

In my opinion, those are the three teams that we just don't want to meet in the playoffs. Is there anyone I missed?

By the way, for their sake, I sure hope Erman wasn't the guy assigned the Clippers advance-prep work all season, though I think there's a good chance he was. If he did the prep work, most of it is probably gone with his firing, right in time for the probable first-round matchup with ... the Clippers. Oops -

Repped High Quality Post

Some observations --

Regarding the Spurs. Any good NBA team can win tons of regular season games playing at 100%. Most good teams save a little extra for the playoffs; call it that sixth gear. It is probable that Pops has his band of unknowns and a couple of veterans playing at 100% and they lack that extra gear come playoff time, If I am right, they will lose.

The Clippers (I still shy away from "we" as I am a latecomer -- or "baandwagoner" if you will) have the best Big Three in the League. Period. Most other Big Three's or Big Two's, other than the Pacers amd Rockets, lack a monster center like DeAndre Jordan. Hibbert is close but no cigar. If we play D12, he is quite a big shorter than DeAndre. And simply not as good.

Refs, as I have said previously, will be a problem if Mt. Rushmore is in the Finals. He is the darling of the NBA and will get all the calls. The League -- and even TNT -- wants a threepeat. In close games, a call here or there could pose a problem. But still Jordan tops whatever bum Miami has at center. I think in this matchup, Miami loses.

Finally, before the playoffs begin, let me say the CTB crew here has been very classy. Many on LTB likened me to a traitor -- or worse!. I have not gotten any grief from the Clippers fans here. I did not want a welcome; I just wanted to talk hoops, support the Clippers and enjoy the best and most exciting NBA team Los Angeles has had in years. And that is exactly what I have gotten. Plus, my son is a Clippers fan. ("Blake doesn't look as big as I expected," he said after seeing him at Staples.)

And, in all my years living here, I have never gone to a Championship parade. When the Clippers win, this will be my first!!!

Do you really think the Spurs are playing at 100%? These are not Tom T's Bulls. The Spurs second gear can just be the fact that their best players are on the floor for more minutes each game. No one plays 30+ mpg on the Spurs, Parker is the closest at 29.7 MPG.

Player Parker 36, Duncan 33-34, Leonard 34+, Manu about 25-26 MPG and you just added 4-6+ more minutes of your best players on the court and none of them is even going past 36 MPG. That's a pretty nice luxury to have.

Miami's big three still has the league'a best player. OKC's big three is a similar composition Westbrook/Paul, Durant/Griffin, Ibaka/Jordan, and they have the league'a second best player who has arguably been the best this season. Sure we could argue he Clippers have the best big three if we really wanted, but we can't say "period" as if it is a definite non contest type thing.

DJ is not better than Dwight, I just don't get that comment. Dwight is better, and basketball is played with your hands, not your head. Dwight is shorter, but that aren't that far off in wingspan IIRC and Dwight is the stronger player.

I'm excited for the Clippers playoffs, but I certainly understand that there are some TOUGH matchups awaiting the Clippers and this isn't a case where the Clippers are favorites against anyone except their first round opponent really.

Obviously, the playoffs are always tough. And often come down to one rebound or free throw as last year's Finals showed us. Nothing is a lock, as my losing Vegas tickets prove.

But "ball don't lie," and DJ is outrebounding D12, I think he has more blocks and they are a kinda-sorta wash at the free throw line. DJ also has more double-doubles than Dwight. So how is Howard better? SMH.

I guess we will find out the answers soon enough!

BTW...regarding the Spurs. I think they just bore the opposition into losing. "Boredom as a Weapon," by Greg Popovich.
