I get that, but to be totally honest what you just said kinda made me want Magic even more. You'll never find an "honest" billionaire on Wall Street. If Magic has to "not meet with LeBron outside the free agency window" and "not offer him money under the table" just to get LeBron to sign with the Clippers, then I'm gonna say we picked the right outlaw to run our team.
Nah, man. We've had the worst owner in sports forever, and while I grant you that nobody will be perfect, I'm just hoping that we can be uncontroversial and be....

I feel like I answered your questions appropriately, unless I'm completely misreading what you are asking.

To sum up what I was trying to say. I think Donald THE OWNER has done a marvelous job and would deserve a huge portion of the credit if we were to win a title this year without all this news coming out about him, but part of being a good owner is not saying things that would cause your players to...idk...boycott or demand a trade. These are things that were inevitable with Donald.

And if Magic was purposely trying to dismantle Donald and the aftershock from it caused is to lose to the Warriors in the 1st round I'd be okay with it because it's a necessary step that had to be taken and Magic was crazy enough to take it. And I like that he was crazy enough to do that because it shows that he's Maverick and this organization needs Mavericks (not the ones from Dallas, unless Dirk wants in)

I think Chris and the rest of the Clippers would thank Magic even if they knew he was the reason for all this drama, because he revealed the beast that has plagued this franchise.

No, he hasn't been. In the Blake Griffin era alone, Donald the owner still has made Dumbleavy sue to get paid, heckled his players from the stands, ran that embarrassing "Black History Month" ad, ran off Olshey by not being proactive with a decent offer, idiotically vetoed the Ariza trade, had to be talked off the ledge when he wanted to keep Vinny, publicly blamed CP3 for Vinny's firing DURING CP3'S FREE AGENCY, nearly ran off Doc when he tried to veto the Redick trade, and finally cost us all our sponsorships and provided a major distraction in the midst of a playoff run with this latest scandal.

Donald had zero redeeming qualities as owner of this franchise except for loosening the purse strings a bit in his final decade with the team, and that's not even considering how horrible of a human being he is. Let's not revise history here. Any championships we would have won without him being banned for life would have been in spite of him.

Okay I watched the entire interview as a whole not juts the talking points. I can't believe people actually believe anything Sterling said. So why would people believe what Sterling said about magic and the phone call when he lied about every single things in the interview.

Because certain people have a very weird hatred of Magic and have already transformed him into a supervillain in their minds and there's no convincing them otherwise. roll

I feel the same way I can't trust anything he says. The guy just needs to keep quiet. He begs the owners for forgiveness and then criticizes the poster child of the league (magic johnson). Why would he think that is a good idea? Like doesn't he have an advisor? Its almost as if someone is giving him bad advice on purpose for him to dig himself into a deeper hole.

Personally I think this argument against Magic is a far better and legitimate concern to take than the other one.

These are legit character flaws that should be reviewed if we are picking an owner for this ball club.

I still think Magic would be a great owner, but he's definitely not perfect by any means and everything you said right here about him is true, but I believe he has a lot more to give than he has to give off.

Exactly! If you believe what DTS said about magic and the phone call, then you also believe that the players love,Sterling, only the media hates him, and the NBA don't want him gone.

What did he lie about?

Sure, he said the players like him when they obviously don't, but I'd label that delusional before I'd call it a lie. If he was lying, one would think he'd do a little bit better than just shoving his foot even further into his mouth.

Well, before you go dismissing the whole thing, Magic should be able to answer if he called Sterling or not tomorrow on CNN. Being delusional and thinking what others are feeling is one thing, but saying someone called not once, but twice is hard to get away with. We'll see.

And some have battered women syndrome. You know, the ones that go through crap year in and year out, complain to their loved ones how bad it is but still can't leave. They complain about the abuse thinking things will change but never leave. I know some people like that here. 8)

You didn't answer my question... what did he lie about?

There is a big difference between lying and being deluded. For example:

Somebody who is a horrible dancer saying "I'm a great dancer" is not the same as them saying "I taught Michael Jackson all his moves". A virgin saying "The ladies love me" is different to him saying "I f*cked Mary last night".

Nobody's falling for crocodile tears. I don't think anybody's particularly sympathetic to Sterling, but just because he is a scumbag doesn't mean that everybody else involved is squeaky clean.

V. Stiviano is a tramp... but Donald is still a racist.

Shelly Sterling is in this for the money... but Donald is still a racist.

Magic Johnson is an opportunistic looter... but Donald is still a racist.

Even Gloria f*cking Allred is an ambulance-chasing, self-promoting, man-hating harpee... but Donald is still a racist.

Get the picture?

Stop accusing people of defending Sterling if they don't see the world in the same naive, simplistic, black-and-white way that you do.

Sterling had that Ether for Magic. Part of me believes if the league promises to not to sell to Magic this could end sooner.

You know me, mate. I try to put the best possible spin on anything Clippers, because I like to be positive and live in hope. Bad performances, trades and acquisitions, even Vinny... I usually try to see the best in everything.

Trust me... this Magic thing gives me an ominous feeling.

If there's another way to go... that's the way I want to go.

What did sterling lie about ?

The whore saying it was her who kept using black men when it was as clear as daylight in the tape that DTS was the first one to bring it up .

He talked to his wife and his wife said he never heard sterling say anything like that and he doesn't either. There's court documents that says other wise.

Got support from other owners. Who did he talk to?

Some people on this board seem to LOVE to play devils advocate.

I guess we'll see what magic says, and I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't tell the whole truth either, but that still won't make me believe sterling anymore. I actually started feeling a little bad for him before hearing the latest CNN interview. The guy has lost it. His judgment is way off and has no businesses running a franchise.

I hope Geffin buys the team and it has nothing to do with magic. But i'll tell you this with 99% confidence (even though i don't know either personally), I think Magic is a better person than Sterling. Whether or not its sterlings fault, is a different story. I actually believe he is a product of his environment and just like many other racist 80 year old people out there (of any ethnicity). But in this day and age, someone like that should not own a franchise full of minorities PERIOD.

Hopefully the Geffen/Ellison/Oprah group buys the Clippers. I think we all deserve an ownership that satisfies every Clipper fan, and that group most closely resembles that.

Oprah has all the good qualities of Magic without the whole Lakers thing.

Donald Sterling has been a bad owner until recently. In my opinion until he paid for Elton Brand. Over the recent years, I really felt that he finally appreciated the value of having a winning team. He stopped being cheap and paid for players. He probably loved the attention he was getting from his friends about how good the team is doing and how the Clippers are the best team in LA. I actually found my self defending him in recent years saying "yea yea whatever he's probably a racist, but you can't say he's cheap anymore..he's improved a lot in that category..." But I believe in karma and i always felt in the back of my head that the clippers would never have huge success because sterlings bad nature and bad karma would prevent it. I feel that the recent events that pretty much ruined his life is karma finally getting him. And after hearing him on CNN i have zero sympathy. Obama called it perfectly when he said: "When ignorant folks want to advertise their ignorance, just let them talk." That Is EXACTLY what happened. Do any of you guys want an owner who's as ignorant as him moving forward with this team?

He said he was baited into it... which is what most people here said it sounded like when they first heard the tape.

If you can listen to that skank saying "But Honeeeeey, why don't you like black people? You want some more juice, baybeee?" and believe that she wasn't out to set him up, then I really don't know what to tell you. It's not like he just randomly started shouting "n*gga this" and "n*gga that".

Listen, dude, I'm not going to claim he's not a racist. As far as I'm concerned, a pattern of behavior has been established over decades which clearly shows that he is... even if he truly believes he's not. To me, that's the most jaw-dropping thing in all of this... I honestly believe that he sees himself more as a benefactor to 'an unfortunate, inferior race'. It is literally a plantation mentality, like... "I provide for these people and they should be grateful".

He only reinforced my perception that he is unimaginably out of touch with reality with that interview. It reminded me of Mitt Romney when he was asked about the responsibility of government to widen the access to, and affordability of, college... his answer was "If you want to go to college, just ask your parents to lend you the money". WTF?

Once again, if he was lying about Magic calling him, I think he could have made up some much better and less verifiable lies. Lies that he could have consulted an attorney about, and that might have painted him in a better light. But honestly, I think he's pretty much telling the truth because he really doesn't understand what he did wrong.

I'm sure that at some point, the truth will come out. It won't take away from what he did wrong, but I believe there's a LOT more to this story than we currently know.

Aside from which, between Oprah and Geffen you have: #1. Black, #2. Female, #3. Gay.

It's the diversity trifecta! Bennetton are gonna be all about sponsoring this team.

Not to mention that luxury tax is "couch-cushion" money for Larry Ellison. Be kinda cool to know that our owner could afford to buy every team in the league if he wanted to.

Guys, do you think Anderson Cooper will question Magic on:

A. The fact that he was in the picture that set Donalds rant off

B. Magic publicly called for the NBA to remove Sterling as owner

C. Magic quickly put his name in consideration for owner

I hope Anderson brings this up, but I fear that with Magics standing in the community they will not grill him on these things

Where's the proof? And no, Sterling's words don't count for anything, because he's crazy, a known liar, and has a childish grudge against Magic.

You can't say you were right without proof.

Yeah... according to the attorney of a skank who's being sued for embezzlement. A criminal investigation is currently underway.

I'm not sure how much you have seeing as they were never tight with the skank and they haven't been all over TV screaming for Sterling's head, but be my guest.

Anyone know when the NBA takes its vote? Wish they would get on with it already - all of this nonsense has the potential of distracting our club from the business at hand.

Pretty good summary of Sterling's track record over the past few years. Not to mention, the only reason we got CP3 is because Stern vetoed the trade to the Lakers. Sterling lucked out there.

I saw this interview "Today" I think there's something wrong with him because he's not thinking in a right frame of mind, like after what he said he has no hope of keeping this team, and I don't see how anyone would represent him.... He's becoming toxic, it's kinda sad to see.

This and a double this to the last line. I think , seriously , he needs to be tested for dementia. My mother died from it (believe it or not my dog has it now) and this is really how it starts, with inane comments (or in case of my dog, actions) they are way different then their current character. If DTS truly believed at one point has is not a racist, his mental incapacity is taking him back to the past when he lived by his racist credo.

But you'd think a billionaire would have the way, means and medical care to be told something is happening with him and he needs to be on meds.

However this plays out, take the freaking vote.... vote him bu-bye, and let's get this behind us ASAP. I am tired of this reality show,it is the worst thing on TV right now.

But I think this Shelly is going to be the real PITA. The woman can't understand that no one wants her,she just doesn't give a crap no one in the world has her back but her high paid attorneys. NO one like her at all. But this is a rich bit** and is going to go to her grave being a thorn in your sides (I say your because I walk when Doc and BG32 walk).

Actually, Shelly will be even easier to get rid of than Donald. She does not own the Clippers separately from DTS, she is merely entitled to half of Donald's interest in accordance with the California Community Property Law, which means she is automatically out as soon as Donald is voted out. The NBA is also working to ban her for life as well.

Good article by Kevin Ding, who usually focuses more on the Lakers from what I remember. He really makes me feel great about the opportunities for this franchise once Sterling eventually sells.

I love that he says "The Clippers' brand is suddenly one of the most recognizable in sports, and if it is redeemed without Sterling, it becomes one of the most valuable, too...... After decades of Sterling putting a ceiling on the Clippers' success, there is now opportunity everywhere you look."

Pretty funny since he's already on record saying "the people and fans have spoken" ( about being the next owner of the Clippers). DTS put him in a spot and trying to buy the team now puts him in a place where he will be scrutinized. I'm loving this.

I think so too. She is just blowing smoke out of her arse thinking she has a leg to stand on,when really doesn't. To me the key is, DTS is principle owner and when principle owner get removed, all lesser owners go with him/her and split their money.

SIDE NOTE: SO how this now works is the NBA basically writes checks and is keeping a tab, and then when it is done DTS pays the tab out of the sale of the team?

Not particularly. Refusing to pay a fine is, in and of itself, a violation of the league constitution, and the league is allowed to vote an owner out just based on that alone.

Ironically, despite his threats to sue, he just made it even easier for the league to win any possible lawsuit against him.
