This **** is going to drag on until DTS dies. All he's going to do is come up with a new bogus lawsuit to file every time it starts to look like he's losing his current one. At this point, Silver needs to just do the vote to kick him out.

And this new lawsuit proves my point. Don't get your hopes up, there are never any positive signs with DTS and if it looks like there might be, it's just him trying to manipulate the situation. He will fight this until he either wins or dies.

Yeah I don't know why anyone would've gotten their hopes high. This guy clearly doesn't get it and will do everything to get what wants, even he if crushes everything around him. They should've just held the vote. That is looking like a worse and worse mistake each day.

I don't know a lot about the legal system. Does this new lawsuit affect the ruling of the current case? Or is it more just to raise chaos and sue for extra money?

What I want to know is if this "fraud" case can stop the sale. If it can't do that, then I don't care, he can feel free to keep wasting his money, time, and energy on a losing battle. If it can, though, Silver needs to get the owners on the phone and vote DTS out immediately. This franchise can't afford for this legal wrangling to drag on for years.

Everybody is forgetting something about DTS. He's a self made billionaire and he doesn't like to lose, finances be damned.Look at what he did to MDSr for fun, just to make him squirm. It's power. He will do everything he can to obstruct the sale and the best way is to change your mind every five minutes. His goal is to make everybody miserable. His logic is different from ours. Steven Colbert asked a billionaire who is giving huge $$ to charity why the Koch brothers. Murdock etc still make cut throat deals when they have more money that a lot of countries. His answer was that they live for the competition and they love destroying and crushing people, the money is irrelevant. He would love to destroy the team.

there is a slight chance there could be a injunction if the probate court rules in Shelly's favor. I think DTS and his minions see the writing on the wall so they're trying to co%k block. Doesn't mean it will happen though.

If they truly saw the writing on the wall, they wouldn't have filed another lawsuit today. All they're doing is delaying, and Silver is letting it happen by not getting DTS voted out.

Calm down. We don't know if this new lawsuit will actually hold up the sale. I'm sure that if Sterling truly does hold things up until near the beginning of the season, Silver will just convene everyone and vote him out.

So this lawsuit can theoretically hold up the sale, then.... he needs to be voted out NOW!

This latest lawsuit is ridiculous. He's gonna go down in flames and trying to take everyone with him. I hope an injunction is filed against the old coot.

Holding the vote is a last resort. The probate case, a request for an injunction... those can be settled relatively quickly compared to an antitrust suit, which will be his first move if they vote him out. If Shelly wins the probate hearing and the judgement is handed down "notwithstanding appeal", then the team can be sold and all he can do is sue for damages afterwards.

Silver knows exactly what he's doing. Keep the case a simple marital dispute and only drop the big hammer if and when you have to.

Oy vey.

They see that the probate court will not rule in their favor ( writing on the wall) so they're rushing to file another lawsuit (co^k block) to try and prevent the sale through other means.

Hence, they see the writing on wall so they're looking at other means to prevent the sale. lol

Repped High Quality Post

We need a voice, as fans, directly to Donald Sterling, pleading with him to do us right in all of this. That might be the only angle to get him to back down. I personally think the only way he could save even a bit of face would be to come out with a statement like this:

"While I believe that my rights have been infringed as the owner of an NBA franchise, I can see how moving forward in this battle would set forth a change in the Clippers franchise that would not be fair to the fans that have been behind the Clippers team and my family through all these years. The Clippers have risen up to become a world class franchise and I would like them to continue to do so; with that said, I would like to thank the fans for their years of loyal support and show them my gratitude by ending my tenure as the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers and proceeding with the sale of the team. I wish the players, coaches, new ownership, and especially the wonderful fans of the Los Angeles Clippers continued success. I will miss you all."

Doesn't Sterling need to pay his $500M debt that he defaulted on when he broke up the trust? If the Steve Ballmer sale does not go through, Shelly Sterling should file for divorce and then take all of Donald's money because he cost her $1B with his stupidity. Then the NBA should sue him for damages to the NBA brand and associated sponsors. Then all of the Clippers sponsors should sue Donald for damages.

Michael McCann has been all over this case. He's been kind enough to respond to me about this case the last few weeks multiple times. Good guy, good article. Definitely makes me feel better about this new lawsuit. Kind of what I was hoping the new lawsuit is to get money, won't stop the sale.

I'm not worried. Everything I've read seems to point towards DTS losing his case in court and it's obvious he's just stalling. The NBA won't let him just stick around too long anymore...

It seems like Donald's lawyer thinks the new federal lawsuit will delay the sale though. Also, it seems like they are pushing so the NBA votes him to relinquish the team so he can start his anti-trust case which could last years. The....

Of course, if Doc, the players and the advertisers go, Sterling will have a worthless franchise. Is prolonging this in lawsuit city worth losing his empire over? I guess he really IS crazy.

Of course Donald's lawyer think that. Do you think he's going to say "Oh, we're just throwing this lawsuit out there because we're going down in flames and are resorting to desperately suing everyone in order to get some delay, any delay."?

Yeah, McCann's coverage of this trial has been the best I've found anywhere. All the relevant information succinctly explained with absolutely no sensationalism. Other sports news outlets and their journalists should pay close attention. They might learn a thing or two about their craft. And Clippers....

Since the beginning, I have been taking the pessimistic view regarding this case. Sterling doesn't care about anyone but himself. He will take the Clippers down in a ball of flames around him if he can. He is simply, one of the worst human beings on the planet.

Some on this site said I was making him out to be a Bond-type villain. Yep. But let's see

  1. Has amassed great wealth at the expense of others. CHECK.

  2. Lives in spectacular elegance. CHECK.

  3. Has a cadre of assistants to do his dirty work while he pulls strings behind the scenes. CHECK.

  4. Is widely hated and/or feared by the people who do his bidding. CHECK.

  5. Lives in his own solipsistic world where what happens to him and his ambitions are the only thing that matters. CHECK.

  6. When someone goes against him he will put forth all his resources to destroy his enemies even if his fiscal losses outweigh his fiscal gains. CHECK.

  7. Has bodyguards to make sure he seldom has to interact with the real world and the many who hate him. CHECK.

  8. Is willing to destroy everything around him when it becomes apparent victory is no longer possible. CHECK.

  9. Though married, surrounds himself with beautiful women who enjoy the luxury he provides. V fits this scenario, depending on taste and if you're not also looking for inner beauty. CHECK.

  10. Hosts black-tie events that put him in a good light so that people won't realize the depths of his evil. CHECK.

  11. His top employees will take his money, but when the going gets tough will jump out of the sinking ship without him. CHECK.

  12. Has a remote installation somewhere of enormous expense and technology from which he plans to take over the world or vastly increase his wealth. DON'T KNOW, BUT CAN ANYONE SAY FOR CERTAIN THAT HE DOESN'T?

Donald Sterling never gave a damn about any of us. Not the fans, not the players, not the coaches, even his executives. He has respect for no one and is honestly one of thee most disgusting human beings I've seen in my life time. This franchise saved my life in my teenage years, all the players, coaches, executives, and all of you guys on CTB became my support group and my family. Even Donald Sterling I considered to be part of that support group/family, I went as far as looking at him like a grandfather since I never had one. To hear the things he has said, to know how far he's willing to go with this, I'm just disgusted, disappointed, and down right hate the man. Nothing anyone has to say will make this satanic old f*** realize he's wrong or make him stop.

SamMays, you forgot #13... His plans for domination and destruction are always thwarted by the good guy in the end.

On a different note, a thought just occurred to me...

Aside from all the widely-reported revenge/pride motives for him blocking the sale, isn't there a chance that he could see substantial economic benefits by having the team seized as opposed to selling it himself?

As we know, there would be massive capital gains tax due to the state and IRS the moment the sale is completed, but if his "property" is seized and sold against his will, it strikes me that he might have a much stronger argument litigating whether any of those taxes are actually owed at all.

If I buy a house which increases in value over time, then that house is forcefully purchased from me (subject to eminent domain laws) shortly before I kick the bucket and pass it onto my heirs (who would be subject to a much lower inheritance tax), do I then also have to pay capital gains on profit accrued? That would seem to be kind of unjust.

If we have any tax law specialists here, I'd like to hear your thoughts.

So what's our chance on keeping the team, players and coach? Do we still have a chance of getting Steve Ballmer to be our new owner? Can DTS go away permanently.. Just don't know what's going to happen with the team.. I need someone to help me cheer up
