toohipcliptoslip-- that is my take 100%! I think this is a travesty of justice, but a great thing for us! If this kind of precedent carries over to the real world, society as we know it is f*cked, but so long as it works in our favor for the Clippers, I don't care!

It's true but you're comparing apples and oranges. Also what is disgusting is determined by the moral code of the accuser. Inter racial marriage was once considered disgusting by probably 90% of Americans black and white. They were in a sense "justified' in causing problems Now if you speak out against it you are disgusting. I don't know what a saint is. It's again relative to your moral code. Protestants don't considered Catholic saints saints. Myamoto Musashi a revered person and is called the sword saint. He fought over 100 duels most to the death for fun. He killed a 13 year old boy.

we are not the thought police.

Sounds like something the Koch Brothers, Sheldon Adelson or someone of that ilk might say. Razz

No matter how you spin that wonderful fable, a disguising person(s) (one as you said hurts anyone) back when is still a disguising person(s) today. Apples and oranges aren't relative here, LOL.

I absolutely agree but don't bring a knife to a gunfight. I don't choose to fight that way but the Koch Brothers, Murdoch etc set the rules of the game. It's called No Rules. They understand the game and are not morally outraged when you lie and cheat. That's what they expect. If you are dealing with a fair person, be fair. If your boxing opponent uses brass knuckles what do you do? Why do I play fair with someone who plays fair with me? It's in good taste.

You tap dancing right now. The nba as a business has every right to decide they

don't want to a person like sterling and what he represents in the their league.

We DO have the right to judge him. It's not "imposing our moral code" unless

we forced him to change his views. This is a business decision, which makes perfect sense.

What he did was not "Illegal" hence why he is not facing a legal trial.

If he has the "Right" to have those sick views, companies have the right

not to do business with him, including the NBA.

In the Koran Muhammad says that it is wrong to tolerate people not of the Book , Jews and Christians. They killed everybody else. Is this disgusting or moral? They are obeying the word of god.

Assume for argument's sake that what DTS did this time was disgusting and it by extension a disgusting person and it had never been made public before. How did he hurt anyone in the past? He paid the players and didn't discriminate.

In the real world what is right or moral is determined by power. What is legal or illegal is determined by who has the power to impose their will in court. At this point in history OUR definition of morality is the "right one" because those who we deem as moral have the power to impose their will. To Genghis Khan morality was to paraphrase. to kill your enemy. see his widow's tears, r*** his daughter and ride his horse and for the Mongols this was moral. Hitler didn't lose because he was disgusting. He lost because he didn't have enough power.

The reason we have our present sense of morality is because people like King, Gandhi, Evers, Harriet Tubman Mandela etc imposed their will not by force of arms but by being willing to sacrifice their bodies but it's still power.

"All acts are political acts and politics emanate from the barrel of a gun" Chairman Mao. It should read "All acts emanate from the strength of the human will"

Sure you can bring a knife to a gunfight, just don't stand up in plain site where they can shoot you, lol.

People let them set the rules to this so-called "game". Need to awake from the stupor that most people are in and start pushing back on these so-called rules. Tough to do and may take a while, but it can be done. Solitary in numbers and not just money numbers.

Tap dancing? Are you referring to me? Grow up. Learn something about the real world. You are in for some very hard lessons. I supported all the things you are talking about before you were born. Guess what IT DOESN'T WORK. In my businesses I hired only black employees, preferentially patronized black businesses and TRIED to serve the black community. My businesses failed because the community couldn't support them. It was black man in red ink.

Again please ask your prof if he/she will invest his/her 401K only in black businesses. No stocks, no bonds no mutual funds. I think you will find that money talks and Afrocentrism walks

BTW Nigerian immigrants are one of the most successful groups in the country> I doubt they recycle black dollars as I tried to do. Sorry CLEEPERS, wrong quote

Turns out the Sterling family has about 329,000,000 reasons to fight his ouster.

If the team is sold before he dies, that's how much capital gains tax is due. If the family inherits, then sells later... they're only on he hook for taxes based on the difference between the value at the time of his death and when they sell it.

This is going long, people.

Congrats ClipsNation! THIS is a defining moment in Clippers and NBA history! and Congratulations to those that stood strong for so long through harsh times. I think we can say are the strongest fan base in the league! We continued rooting for this team even without the promise of a championship or a history of it to back it with confidence. We simply yelled "CLIPPERS!" for the love of the game. What I loved about going to the games, due to cheaper ticket prices, instead of a game full of ppl concerned about where celebrities were sitting, Clippers games....

as is the case with most of those that have been shunned by society, i started to feel a bit sympathetic for the old man.

but even after all this drama, the moment he told jim gray that the team was not for sale brought me back to reality. GO AWAY OLD MAN.

No worries, man. I just found it to be in really poor taste and I don't see how it's any better coming from a black man than it would be from a white man.

There's no room for that sh!t on this forum.

I find racism worse coming from minorities. It's bad to hit someone when you'v never been hit but it's worse when you've been hit and you know how it feels. He's read a lot but has no clue what the real world is like. Unresistingly some of the worst racists can be American Indians -- personal experience

Ah Joe my beacon of morality Smile I am totally Machiavellian but even in an amoral situation ethical behavior breeds ethical behavior because it's good business. See Lucky Luciano. See The Prisoner's Dilemma n Game Theory. With ethical behavior the world is peaceful and everybody makes money. Soon they will get ethical bosses because ethics is what works.. Article 13 NBA Constitution: TERMINATION OF OWNERSHIP OR MEMBERSHIP: Ownership may be terminated by 3/4 vote of Govs' for any of 10 reasons

Only term that applies: (a) Willfully violate any of the provisions of the Constitution and By-Laws, resolutions, or agreements of the Ass.

This term may apply also: (d) Fail or refuse to fulfill its contractual obligations to the Ass, its Members, Players, or any other third party in such a way as to affect the Association or its Members adversely.

Other than sections A & D I don't see the other sections applying to Sterling in terms of termination.

Well Sterling is absolutely screwed, I found what I was looking for.

After the 3/4 vote, Sterling will get a notice in writing. He then can & must meet in front of the Board with counsel. He will be allowed to put on evidence of mitigation in an effort to persuade the Board of his position. The Board will listen to all the evidence & vote again.

If the Board votes for termination/sale by 3/4 after hearing from Sterling the vote is essentially final. The decision is deemed final "and each Member and Owner waives any and all recourse to any court of law to review any such decision."

Article 14 Sec J states in part "..each Member and Owner waives any and all recourse to any court of law to review any such decision."

This means Sterling has waived his right to sue in court over the forced sale. So now we know he has waived his rights in both ban & sale.

Once Sterling is officially ousted the Commissioner shall be in full control and management of the team. The Commissioner shall make ALL decisions for the team. Including liquidation and or sale.

Article 15 Alternative to Termination: With a 2/3 board vote, the Board may waive termination & invoke a fine (no cap on the fine).

After a quick review of the NBA by-laws the Board has very broad powers to terminate ownership & Sterling has waived his right to sue. What this means is Sterling has to persuade a Judge to set aside this clause of the by-laws in order for Sterling to sue. Uphill battle.

Again, must view the Ban & Termination of Ownership as two different events & in both events Sterling has waived his right to sue.

Also, there is NO arbitration clause Sterling can take advantage of. In relation to the ban, the bylaws name Silver as the arbitrator. Also, there is NO arbitration clause Sterling can take advantage of. In relation to the ban, the bylaws name Silver as the arbitrator.

Then once he gets voted out by the Board, if he wants to sue the board, he must convince a Judge to rule the waiver of his rights to sue was not a lawful waiver. I don't know how a Judge would agree to that considering Sterling had attorneys & is an attorney himself.

Not trying to sound clueless, but I am. So does ban basically mean he is forced out of ownership or what? Basically, what do they mean by banning him from the Clippers?

Banned from any affiliation of the NBA or Clippers. He does not have any power in any decision making. All he can do is provide the funds. Please correct me if I'm wrong anyone.

it means he can't get near clipper players, coaches, games, practices. or anything nba related, for that matter. he's still the owner. BUT, Silver said he and the nba owners are going to get together and try to vote him out. If they get 3/4th votes, sterling is forced to sell

No it doesn't mean he is forced out of ownership. He is still the owner but he can't go to any NBA games, any CLips practises, can't go to the locker room, can't have anything to do with the team. He does collect the cash still though.

Forcing him to sell is a different issue.

I started thinking about it. Sure, we don't have a 16 Championship history, but what we accomplished today will go down go down as a monumental moment in sports history. Our team name, Los Angeles Clippers, shall be branded in overcoming great adversity.

One last comment and my black wearing a** is off to the game. Many of you have an unrealistic view of business. A personal experience;

In the 80' a friend and I owned an independent record label called Tuckwood (all black employees my young friend) We did a song called Caught in the Middle by a group called Prime Cut. Google it. It flopped in the US but we licensed it to a label in England. The Boss Jock for dance music on the BBC contacted us and told us it was selling so fast they couldn't keep it in the stores. When it came time for our royalties, the company refused. They told us to come to England hire a lawyer and sue them. Since we didn't know if they owed us $50 or $50,000 we bent over and took it in the bum.

Another group had a song licensed to Island Records England and the tune had earned at least $1mill. Island held their funds till the legal papers were almost served then they paid. They got a million dollar interest free loan.

The rules were this: they would pay you if you have more songs in the pipeline that they want otherwise they may not. Do you play ethically or dirty? What you may call dirty for them is business as usual. This is what the record business used to be like. Play by their rules. The group got their money but they lost the use of it for well over six months.. They couldn't do more tunes or do promotion.

Speaking of playing dirty one jock got shot non fatally for taking payola and not playing the tune. For those of you who didn't know, the record industry was controlled by Jewish gangsters. A guy got both of his thumbs broken for bootlegging the wrong guy's record. BOY WAS THAT A FUN TIME!

Haven't had a chance to speak on this again but I finally got some time to myself.

Thoughts on this situation:

  • Feel sorry for Mr. Sterling that he was exposed illegally like that. But I DO NOT feel sorry for his recent downfall. Yes, it was a dirty move by his mistress/gf but people can not and should not be tolerated in society. Again, unfortunate that his rights were violated. I've heard/known about his racial issues he's had in the past, but this was the last straw. I had my suspicions about him and kind of was 50/50. Yeah, he's had some remarks and incidents that hinted at some prejudice in him but it didn't seem like outright hate. Just some talk like other races do. However, the phone call kind of pushed me over and I couldn't look at him the same way.

  • I also want to thank him for the time that I have been a Clipper fan (which has been since the Brand days, didn't find out about CTB until late Smile ). I've gotten to see some promise, to lows, back to promise and now elite status.

I have many thoughts about him, the situation, and the team that were not said but could not formulate them into a post. The future looks bright. Hopefully, the new ownership doesn't want to move the Clippers. I am not from LA but I do understand how attached the LA fans of the Clippers are and I do not wish the team moving upon them. But I'll be a fan either way.
