Will fetch 1 billion easy. Magic and Dodgers group, Giffen, P Diddy and multiple other billionaires fighting to bid. Guys we are going to make history. First billion dollar sale in NBA history. I can see it now... Our own TV channel and an exploding brand. I'm getting chills. Ding domg, the witch is dead.

I hope new owner rebrands us and changes name/colors to start a new path in LA. Stand up Clipper nation! We are reborn!

It won't be a problem as I though finding a buyer. Without a TV deal though, don't know if we hit the Billon mark, but it will definitely be +700 mil. Well find out in time.

Why change name and colors? We can get a "fresh start" only by having a new owner, no need for that

Its not an opinion dude. Multiple guys willing and ready to throw a billion plus. What new TV deal are they talking about though? I'm blocked from LA times article by pay wall. Anybody kind enough to post new LA times section with TVdeal in here?

Stick with Clippers red white and royal blue. No name change.

Here ya go "86. Didn't see this article and boy did I guess wrong.

New TV deal could help Clippers smash NBA record sale price

By Bill Shaikin

April 29, 2014, 1:33 p.m.

If Donald Sterling sells the Clippers -- by his choice, or because his fellow NBA owners vote him out -- he is likely to command a sale price that would be at least twice the record for an NBA franchise.

The two highest NBA sale prices -- $550 million for the Milwaukee Bucks, and $534 million for the Sacramento Kings -- involved small-market teams. A sale of the Clippers probably would spark a spirited bidding war, with a sale price above $1 billion.

The Dodgers commanded a sale price far above most projections, in large part because Magic Johnson and his partners at Guggenheim Baseball realized how much money could be made in media rights. Guggenheim bought the Dodgers for $2.15 billion, then played Fox Sports and Time Warner Cable against one another before securing an $8.35-billion television contract from TWC.

The Clippers are the only major sports team in town whose television rights come up for bid soon. The Clippers' contract with Fox Sports expires after the 2015-16 season.

Fox needs the Clippers to maintain the viability of Fox Sports West and Prime Ticket, fighting to keep both channels alive after losing the Lakers and Dodgers. TWC SportsNet, the Lakers' channel, already was considering a significant bid for the Clippers. And, for the new SportsNet LA, owned by the Dodgers, the promise of a second team might sway the cable and satellite providers so far reluctant to carry the channel.

That means a new Clippers owner could leverage at least three potential television suitors, at a time the Clippers are in position to keep rising as the Lakers keep sliding. Johnson and his Guggenheim partners might be the most motivated to buy the Clippers, if they come up for sale, but they by no means would be the only bidders.

Rick Caruso, the developer who partnered with former Dodgers Manager Joe Torre on a bid to buy the Dodgers, has said he would be interested. Patrick Soon-Shiong, the richest man in Los Angeles, also is likely to be interested. Soon-Shiong owns a small share of the Lakers -- he bought that share from Johnson -- and pursued bids for the Dodgers and AEG Live.

Forbes estimates the value of the Clippers at $575 million. When the Dodgers went up for sale, Forbes' most recent valuation was $800 million.

Definitely no name change, but the red, white, blue colors are kind of boring, especially since the Sixers have the same colors and kind of similar uniforms. They should bring these colors back:

Academy blue and red-orange >>>>>>>>>

Then they should make all-black "#WeAreOne" uniforms too as an alternate! Something like this:

86: why would you want to change the name?? That Is never the right answer. The team has a history and the rise from the bottom is part of it. Changing the name negates everything that has happened in the past and all the positives that have happened recently. Its a great story the way it is.

A new name and branding will help get sponsors who are leery of past associations with DTS. I really don't want to change the name but for business reasons, for the org and players, it might be a good idea.

As a Clippers and Dodgers fan I truly hope there is not a Time Warner Clippers network that only 30% of the LA fans can watch. I'm fine with a rebranding as long as it doesn't include a name change.

You do know that even with their horrible season, they still have higher ratings than the Clippers right? Come on man don't post nonsense. LA will always be a Lakers town. Best thing is to build our own arena and do whatever to distance ourselves from the Lakers.

I wouldn't mind the Clippers changing their colors, TBH. Red, white and blue are kind of bland.

The only reason why I think we should get new team colors is so that CP3 and Blake can sell more attractive basketball shoes and clothes lol it's hard to wear Clippers colors casually sometimes haha

I really hope that whoever buys the team will seriously think about building a new arena. I want this team to finally branch out and create their own niche once and for all. There are plenty of spots that would work. Even Sterling was ready to build at Hollywood Park before Staples enticed him.

Guggenheim is interesting. They obviously own the Dodger Stadium lot. I wonder if they would consider building an arena to go with plans of retail and development.

Forgive my ignorance but how come Basketball franchise's make a profit? Soccer teams in Europe are generally run at a loss. A lot of the big teams at a huge loss.

The Forum was already renovated to be a concert only venue but regardless, I think one of them should move on and establish an indentity in a new arena.

I realize that the Clips have 9 years left on their lease and the Lakers have 10 but AEG is a bottom line business and as long as they are made financially whole, they'll be fine. The Clips pay 1.5 million a year in rent which is an easy and cheap buyout plus AEG can easily fill those dates due to being in downtown LA. It's not like they'll be hurting financially.

Also, Guggenheim are power players. Are they really going to sit around and continue to pay rent to AEG? I have to think that if they win out, they'll at least consider a new arena as an option.

Most NBA teams are "run at a loss" too. It's all creative accounting so the owners can cry poor and grab for more money when it's time to renegotiate the CBA. I don't follow soccer so I don't really know much about the economics of it, but if most teams are running at a loss, I'm almost positive it's all just on paper.

Not sure 1.5 million per year is a cheap buyout when you factor in 41+ events per year that generate even more revenue for them over a 9 year period, but who knows. These people are so rich it's still probably a drop in the bucket to them.

When one team has the fanbase the size that the Lakers have and the other team has multiple stars selling out 130+ games, and an amazing arena like Staples no one will be looking to move the team except for the Seattle group.

I thought only Americans called it soccer. Brits do too? Then again were the only two countries that do not use the metric system so I wouldn't be surprised lol. I honestly don't watch football much so I don't know about football teams.

Anyway you pretty much don't have to try to earn a profit as a team owner. If you are in a big market it is even easier. Mediocre teams like the Knicks and the Lakers are earning more money than most teams. This is due to sponsors, tv deals and an active fan base. Even if you are a small market you will earn profit because you will likely spend less and you get money from revenue sharing amongst teams.

Quite a few reasons...

Fewer teams, bigger TV deals (many more commercials), a salary cap, fixed revenue split between players and owners, wealth redistribution between more and less profitable teams.

I think the Clippers should stick with their colors because they've had them for so long. I can't imagine the Knicks, Bulls, Lakers, etc. ever changing their colors.

I do like the all black uniform idea. They should wear it for every Sunday home game. Or add black to the Clippers colors.

This stuff is annoying. Earth to Anaheim and Seattle. No team is leaving the second largest market to go to your quaint towns! Enough with the craziness please.

The thing is this. AEG can easily replace lost NBA games with other events. This is one of the busiest arenas in the country and there are a ton of events that can't be booked due to so many sporting events. If they were to lose the Clippers or Lakers, I have to think that filling an extra 40 dates wouldn't be that hard to do.

I Have heard a TON of people talking about this lately and i don't agree with moving or name change or rebranding. The only thing i do agree with is Jquick that the colors look a lot like the sixers. If we did anything I'd hope it was only so slight like darkening up the blue to more of a navy and red or going with our light blue (WITHOUT the sleeves tho) and red. But don't get too far way from the what the team is. We don't need an over haul by any means.

Well, if the new owners are looking at the Clips as a bank account,as the Guggenhiems did with the Dodgers,we are not going to like what may be coming. HIgher prices in everything from tickets to the crap we wear. Which could mean not a location change but a name or color change or both. Then everyone of us would have to buy the newest and best stuff so we match our team. Not me,I have to wear out my old stuff but still can't you smell it coming?

I do see what you're saying and understand it from a business side, but hopefully who ever ends up buying the team also realizes the culture and doesn't want to drop everything and start from scratch. Like i said, a slight change would be fine with me. If its Guggenheim Group and they decide to drop the red and be just blue and white like the dodgers, fine. But nothing too drastic. Theres something extra sweet about our franchise coming from where we have to where we are now and it would be a shame if the new owners can't see that.
