That's the wild idea I got when I read this quote by the Clippers president Andy Roeser:
"We've had production on a lot of fronts with Elton (Brand), Corey, Baron Davis and other free agents," Roeser said. "I was pleased to read Baron's comments. I'm glad to hear where his state of mind is. We hope to have more to tell you next week."
from this article regarding the signing of Eric Gordon:

Hope it's true! I mean you'd think there would be no way to sign Corey if both EB and Baron are signed.... |

| I thought all along that Management had something up their sleeve. I thought it was Arenas but it was BD. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they signed Corey |

| They can't sign corey at all. They have to renounce their rights to him in order to get BD. Which means they could not sign him after that, even if he wanted to come back. Its against league rules. He's done in L.A. Spurs look like front runners for his services. The only way corey comes back is through trade with another team after he signs with them. |

I do not know if that is true. Just because Corey has opted out does not mean LA has renounced him (ie Brand...) |

| They had to renounce coreys rights in order to sign Davis. They have not renounced the rights to Brand. The only way we could get Baron is if the Clips renounced coreys rights. Thats what has been said on various websites. |

| ^^Maybe he could be talking about some sort of a sign-and-trade deal for Corey like the Hoopsword article suggested. Maybe that needs to get done before EB signs? |

| They had to renounce the rights to Brand also to sign Davis. What happens is you can't give them that 6th year option and you pay luxary taxes if you go over the cap. The Clippers can resign Maggette but not for the max amount of years and they would have to pay the luxary tax if they went over the salary cap also. Maggette is still gone I believe unless DTS is willing to pay those taxes. |

I think this is a waiting game till next Wednesday. But Big is right, they have to renounce Corey before they can sign Baron...that's a fact. By renouncing Corey, they give up their bird rights to him.
I expect the Clippers to renounce Maggette by Wednesday, after the new salary cap is implemented. That way they know what Baron's & Brand's contracts will look like. The other reason they haven't renounced Brand is because once they do and if for some reason BD changes his mind, we are now out of luck with signing Brand and Davis. You don't renounce until you have all your ducks in a row. |

| Thanks for the clarification Gents, I did not understand all this "renouncing" business. |

| They haven't renounced anyone, yet. I don't think they will renounce Elton because then they can offer him a 6th year, which helps counter the G.S. offer. In some places I've read they'll have to renounce E.B. in order to fit Baron Davis, but I don't know why. |
