Is it true that an Orange County politician by the name of Karina Onofre is trying to mover the LA Clippers south and make them an Orange County team?

The Clippers have a contract with staples center until the 2022-2023 season or something. That would be very hard to get out of and leaving the second largest market in the US would be the worst decision. Our team value would decrease as soon as it moves and whoever buys the team would not want their billion dollar investment to move to the OC

Is it true? Yes.

Does she have a billion dollars? No.

Is she merely a candidate for state assembly touting populist ideas to win votes in her district? Yes.

Will this ever happen? No.

I read on her Facebook page that she was getting support from a Newport Beach politician. Anything Newport Beach means bottomless pockets. I hope your second thought is right because she seemed to come up with this right after the Sterling story came out.

Oh, her facebook page is giving the impression that she's succeeding? That's a worry then... because I've never heard of anyone using their facebook page to paint themselves as being more successful than they actually are. You know what it would take for the Clippers to move? ...a new arena (as well as many, many other factors). You know....

You know what it would take for the Clippers to move? ...a new arena (as well as many, many other factors). You know what it would take to build a new arena? ...several hundred million dollars of public money. The state is already broke... that leaves local taxes. And if there's one thing those Newport beach bottomless pockets can't stand, it's paying more taxes. This is a non-story.

Well, she's telling her local newspaper something different...

http://www.dailypilot.com/news/tn-dpt-m ... 8984.story

First, the new Clippers owner would have to WANT to leave L.A. which is a stupid move because the city's name is among those most globally recognized in an era of global expansion for the NBA. Next, he or she would have to pony up a billion dollars for the franchise, then probably another couple of hundred million towards the cost of the new arena. Then he would have to settle a lawsuit for millions more with the owners of Staples for breaking the Clippers' lease.

This woman is a nobody. She doesn't even hold public office... she is a CANDIDATE. She is making promises to voters that she will never be able to keep, like lowering taxes while increasing spending on their pet causes.

You pushing this story so hard never having posted anything before today makes me think you have an agenda of your own.

Until you come back with something more concrete than what some chick said, you're on troll watch.

I'm so sorry. I have no agenda other than I was told things and thought the best way to get to the bottom of it was to join a forum where members would most likely know something about it. Thanks for your help.

She wants to take our team and give it to the on percenters in the OC...

from her page today:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

State Assembly Candidate will be at Clippers Playoff game

74th State Assembly candidate Karina Onofre plans to attend Clippers vs. Oklahoma City NBA Playoff game Friday May 9th

Irvine, California Wednesday May 7, 2014 California State Assembly candidate Karina Onofre announced she will attend upcoming Second-Round NBA Western Conference Playoff game between the Clippers and Oklahoma City Thunder, Friday May 9 at Staples Center, 7:30PM.

Earlier this week Karina Onofre called for formation of a blue-ribbon committee to lure NBA Clippers basketball franchise from Los Angeles to Orange County. Said Onofre, an Orange County native, business owner and Democratic candidate, "Response to the Clippers in Orange County has been incredible. I'm building the best Task Force, so LA's problems can become Orange County's greatness!"

Said Onofre, "I've confirmed the genuine interest of many people in Orange County to this idea, and will have a great team up-and-running ASAP. Prominent corporate leaders, small business owners like myself, community leaders, public officials all owe it to their community, to step-up and work together, to make this a reality."

Continued Onofre, "Based on positive feedback how to present the best possible proposal to the Clippers, I realize I may have misspoken when I talked about the cities I hope to represent in Sacramento: Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Laguna Beach, Laguna Woods and Newport Beach. As my esteemed colleague and Republican opponent in the 74th Assembly race has said, it is up to the residents and their local elected officials to make decisions about their communities. That's what this committee is all about. I hope Newport Beach Councilman Keith Curry will join me on this all-important Task Force, to bring the Clippers to Orange County."

"I passionately believe our community can be the right new home for the Clippers. We have so much to offer them, and they can become a great business resource for Orange County."

"Friday night I'll be at Staples Center, to cheer-on the Clippers in their quest to reach the NBA Playoffs finals. I hope to meet fans, players and key members of their organization to discuss this idea, to bring the Clippers to a brand new home in Orange County."

"I again ask your help, to bring together Orange County's very best, to form a proposal to invite the Clippers to join our Orange County family. Contact me at karina@karinaonofre.com or (714) 360-2011."

In a related announcement, I will be watching the game from my living room where I am forming a blue-ribbon committee of myself, my wife and the cat to further explore options of bringing the Clippers to Brentwood.

I too hold no public office, but I'm pretty sure my neighbors and local small businesses would be stoked about all the hypothetical money it would bring to our community.

Now I just have to convince Adam Silver plus Magic, Oprah, Ellison, Floyd "money" Mayweather, Malcolm-in-the-middle or whoever else may buy the team that it's a good idea.

I'm sure they won't laugh in my face at all. Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_08

This is why politicians are held in such low esteem. They are kinda like Kim Kardashian -- anything to get noticed.

Just ran across this, don't know with the eventual new ownership if this would ever happen but..........

First the Angels. Then the Clippers. Is the Great Park the great destination for rumored professional sports moves? Karina Onofre, a candidate for the 74th Assembly district, wants to bring those "beleaguered Clippers" that she thinks are an "up-and-coming franchise and have the potential to advance far in the NBA playoffs" to Orange County. i think someone already posted this a while back, and this would be a dumb move. no need for a move to Anaheim.

My bad, didn't realize someone had posted it already.

I agree dumb move, just with all the stank DTS has put on the team, the league, etc.......it certainly wouldn't shock me a new owner would want his own arena.

Supposedly I heard its in the clause that Silver is making it so that the Clippers remain in Los Angeles. So hopefully nothing to worry about

We already have the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim,we don't need the Los Angeles Clippers of Orange County.

As a Ducks fan, I wish the Clippers would move to the Honda Center and establish their own history over there (Banners, retired jerseys, etc..). I mean, they did sell out every game when they used to play there in the 90's.

No one is moving from downtown to anaheim. It's just not the same. It doesn't matter that we share an arena it makes our rivalry with

Them unique.

Come on guys, if Ballmer does not want to move Clippers to Seattle, why should he be interested in Anaheim? I would love for Clips to be the Anaheim Clippers ( the OC team), but he would be pay the team 3x more to be a small market team. No thanks.
