The NBA is reportedly considering "disenfranchising" the Los Angeles Clippers, according to a report on CNN.

Normally when a franchise owner is disenfranchised, the owner keep the underlying business.

If Donald Sterling is disenfranchised, however, he and his wife lose the Clippers and the NBA would take over the team.

The couple will continue to jointly own the trust, and the trust will no longer own the team. Likewise, any potential divorce proceedings likely would not affect the league's ability to transfer ownership of the team away from the trust.

Good. Last time the NBA took over a franchise they were rewarded the #1 pick in the draft.

Maybe they will reward us with the #1 player in the world. LeBron for vet minimum. Make it happen Silver.

In the trail "Is the NBA Fixed?", I noted the "super star bias" the refs award certain players. But this time around, in the OKC-L.A. series, the bias was much more aggressive. Even at the end of a game where we were behind four points, the refs came in to destroy any comeback attempt.

I attribute this to the fact that the NBA knew this Sterling thing was about to get ugly. The Turdlings were not going, as I said, quietly into the night. And the NBA could not risk this situation being a topic in the Finals.

Believe me, if we get through this mess and the scum are finally disposed of, the Clippers will get the usual home court reffing -- not the aggressive "kill the Clippers" reffing evident in the last series.

Let's hope this has a positive ending for the Clippers. I would hate to lose BG, CP3, DJ and Doc just when they are getting ready to own the NBA. It would be a shame.

Does this mean the team name would change?

The Sterlings won't go quietly, so maybe we'll be owned by the league for a while as everything is legally resolved. As horrible as that is, at least it won't give any ammunition to the half-witted, race-baiting Jalen Roses of the world putting pressure on Doc and our guys to leave.

They just want to destroy the team to distribute our players to NBA ballclub if they will kill the Clippers I think that's over for me, I'm a fan of the Clippers not just Chris Paul or Blake Griffin but the Clippers franchise.

Can someone with some knowledge of this situation please break it down for me. Does this mean the NBA will own the team for a while or are they getting rid of the franchise as a whole?

RealGM screwed up their headline. The NBA is disenfranchising the Sterling trust, not the Clippers. If they were getting rid of the Clippers, that would be called contraction.

As far as I understand it, the simplest way for the NBA to be rid of BOTH Sterlings is to say "F*ck it... there IS no more Clippers... they don't exist". Then they suddenly hold all the assets of what used to be the Clippers, pending a sale. Next, they take all those assets and package them under the franchise of "the Los Angeles Clippers" and the revenue generated from those assets are passed to the Sterlings.

However, there will be litigation... perhaps for a long time, but the Sterlings can't even begin that litigation until the franchise is taken from them or else they wouldn't even have anything to litigate.

My belief is that taking the team from them is pretty easy for the league, but selling it to somebody else can't be done until all the legal proceedings are over. Most courts will put a hold on any sale until resolution.

In the meantime, we will be owned by the NBA collective.

^Exactly the way the writer/lawyer for Sports Illustrated put it.

So will the league continue to build the team or just trade players away like they did with NO?
