Looks like we won't get him back next season sadly. If he leaves Doc to take that same role under Steve Kerr that would really upset me. Who can we get to replace him? Tyron Lue getting interest too. This offseason sucks

This was always the worry that Doc's coaches would garner interest from other teams. I just hope that Gentry gets a head coaching job instead of being part of Steve Kerr's staff.

I don't blame him to leave to be the head coach somewhere- but not to take the same role under steve Kerr.

Gentry's under contract with the Clips and it would be foolish for him to accept another associate coach's position. If anything, he'd want to get a head coaching position. That would make more sense.

If Gentry leaves, wonder if Mike Dantoni would consider being our offensive coach. As long as he has NOTHING to do with the defensive side, I think Dantoni could flourish.

Our offense was really good under Gentry, don't know if he was running it or Doc was, but both sides of the ball were really good at times. I hope he doesn't leave, as I mentioned countless times before, Let the players learn the system, MEMORIZE it, and we'll be the next SA spurs.

If I had to take a guess, I'd say an assistant coaches impact drops off significantly after the 1st season the team is together.

I feel as if Gentry already laid the foundation of our offense and now we can just build off of it through Doc.

Again, I'm taking a random guess. I have no idea how important an assistant coach really is.

That being said I will be sad if Gentry is gone.

mike dantoni did pretty good with a bunch of scrubs for the lakers..

his offense might be pretty good for the clippers..

our defense was great..

and if dj finds an offensive post up move...like the hook shot i saw once in the playoffs..

that would be nice..

If Both Alvin and Ty Lue go. I woulndt mind hiring Lionel Hollins, cand Mike Dantoni for Offense and Defense. Even though that probably won't happen , but Lionel Hollins might.

I know this may sound crazy , but when assistants interview fro jobs its kinda like a slap in the face if they come back as assistants

Lionel Hollins To Interview For Lakers' Coach Opening

Lionel Hollins has emerged as a head coaching candidate for the Los Angeles Lakers and the team plans to interview him later this week, according to sources.

The Lakers have also interviewed Mike Dunleavy Sr. and Byron Scott.

Hollins reached the postseason in each of his final three seasons as coach of the Memphis Grizzlies before being let go due to acrimony between he and the front office.

Like Lakers' management, Kobe Bryant is hopeful that the franchise finds a coach with a proven track record.

Lionell Hollins is the 3rd or 4th best coach in the league if you ask

me. If we didn't have Doc I'd want Hollins for sure.

He doesn't get much credit, but he turned Grizzlies into a defensive

machine, and got the consistent production out of Zach Randolph

that no one thought possible.

He developed Marc Gasol, into DPOY, and will def be in a few all-star

games during his career, when people felt like the lakers "Stole Pau Gasol" basically

insinuating Marc was his useless little brother.

Marc will arguably be better than Pau when it's all said and done.

Best of luck to all of them.

Got the best out of Randolph? Hasn't he always been considered a 20/10 guy most of his career? Under Hollins, his production has gradually declined. Might be his age but saying Hollins did what no one else thought possible his a stretch to say the least. he's always been that player.

No I said his consistency. I've been a Randolph Fan since he came in the league and

have followed him. Not just talking about consistent stats. His buy in, attitude, and defense

have all been problems throughout his career.

Randolph can stuff stats, and has always been able to do so, but being an anchor on a contending

team was something most teams didn't believe he could do.

Just read the reports from when he left portland for NY then to the clippers. With those

stats he should have been getting K-Love treatment (Every team putting in a bid)..

His production is down now because of age.

In what league? Because he's certainly not top 3 in a league with Pop, Carlisle, Doc, Thibs, SVG, Spoelstra, and even new up-and-coming coaches like Hornacek, Stevens, and Joerger.

Report: Lakers to interview Gentry

The Los Angeles Lakers are scheduled to interview Alvin Gentry on Wednesday for their head coaching vacancy, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Gentry is an assistant with the Los Angeles Clippers. He also served as an assistant under Mike D'Antoni with the Phoenix Suns. D'Antoni resigned as Lakers coach after the regular season.

Gentry has also been connected with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Utah Jazz and Memphis Grizzlies jobs. However, Dave Joerger decided Sunday to remain the Grizzlies' coach.

The Cavaliers plan to interview Gentry on Friday and the Jazz met with him last week.

NBA.com reported that the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings are interested in hiring Gentry as a lead assistant.

Gentry was head coach of the Phoenix Suns from 2009-13. In the 2009-10 season, he guided the Suns to the Western Conference finals with Steve Kerr as general manager. Kerr was recently hired to coach the Warriors.

WHy can't he just stay with us? Number 1 offense in the league, and you want to go to some rundown like the Lakers or Jazz, stay with the Clippers man, we'll get you a chip together!

Does anyone else think assistant coaches returning after interviewing for head coaching jobs are a slap in the face?

No. If Assistant coaches are still under contract (Gentry is), then they got the blessing from the team, coach, or both to go interview. Bottom line, every assistant coach's dream is to be a head coach.

Well Ty Lue may be out

Like I said, I wouldn't mind Lionel Hollins as a defensive coach like Ty Lue was. I came to like Ty Lue even though his tenure hear was short lived , but again he could remain
