Donald Sterling vows fight, says he has offers of $2.5B

Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling said the NBA's efforts to terminate his ownership of the Los Angeles Clippers are "illegal" and are based on a recording of a private conversation that itself broke California law, according to his 32-page response sent to the league Tuesday and obtained by USA TODAY Sports.

Sterling says he will fight the charges and noted that he has received offers of more than $2.5 billion for the team. He also noted that a forced sale of the team would cause his family to take an "egregious" tax hit on the sale of the club.

Luckily, the free agent period doesn't begin until July 1 we should have this resolved by then

I guess he'll still have to be voted out and this was all for show, as expected. Cannot wait until this franchise is finally rid of this waste of flesh and his hag harpie wife.

I don't think anyone is surprised by Donald Sterling's ultimate reaction, and I don't think the NBA is either. He will likely to be voted out, but then file a lawsuit in order to stay, so the question is going to be, how will it hold up in the courts. So unfortunately it might not be as quick as everyone would like.

What a huge piece of sh!#!!!! I would have had the smallest amount of respect possible for him if he had agreed that selling the team was in the best interest of everyone involved. His already bad reputation, is just getting worse every time he talks out of his disgusting - leather bag looking of a face.

I don't wish death on anyone, but what's the second worst thing that I could wish on him?

I hope this piece of crap keeps opening his stupid mouth. That way a judge would have to rule against this idiot.

If he gets to keep the team I am truly finished with the Clippers and I hope everyone else does the same.

I am kinda scared to get rid of Donald. I just want someone to come in and provide money. Not try to relocate us or get rid of certain coaches and players , but I....

I think we all share the same anxiety. For a minute I actually believed the miser was going to do the right thing and sell. Boy how naive I can be sometimes

Same as it ever was. Donald has always said he's not going quietly. The NBA just had the attitude that if Shelly could find an acceptable buyer in a hurry - despite Donald - they might listen to her.

Wouldn't surprise me if Shelly's plan all along was to sell to a 'friend' only to have an under-the-table deal that she could buy back her share quietly at a later date when Donald was finally gone.

It'll be interesting to see if that 'power of negotiation' contract between the Sterlings actually exists. If it does, then the old man truly has lost his mind.

Either way, this story should just be titled "War of the Sterlings". Shelly has no pull with the league because they never gave any in the first place. This is still Donald Sterling vs. the NBA... it's just that now it appears he has another enemy to deal with.

NBA are probably loving the fact that Donald has to fight on another front.

It'll be stupid if someone buys this team for over a billion and then relocate the team. Part of the team's value is the location!

I doubt the league lets that happen. I doubt the owners let that happen. Part of the future earnings in the new TV deal takes away money from the other teams. Clippers have to share part of that. There is no way they'd get a better deal if they let them relocate.

You're welcome haha. But seriously I know Sterling has always been a flaming racist but just what it would mean for our current team and what we've been trying to build would be too much for me.

Donald doesn't get is that if he waits until after June 3rd all of the profits from the sell that could be 2.5 BILLION would go to charity. He would not get a penny. That Is Why I Think He Is Trying To Sell

Huh?

That's nonsense. He and his family will get 2/3 of all profits whether he sells the team or the NBA does. The remaining 1/3 will be split between Uncle Sam and the State of California... ie: taxes.

So how does this work? All bids come in today, then Sterling has until June 3rd to pick who he wants to sell to?

I love you Pete, and I would give almost anything for the SuperSonics to return again, but this isn't the way to do it. Seattle needs to either get the SuperSonics back from OKC, or they need to get an expansion team.

That would be true if he wasn't going to make a boat load of money when he sells the team.

So his best case scenario is that he wins and keeps the team. The worst is that he sells the team for a billion plus. I know there's a large tax on selling the team, but who cares. He bought the team for about 17 million if I'm not mistaken. Cry me a river haha.

Where did you get that bogus information?

If the NBA sells, they take out the fine he was sanctioned, and all fees that it took to sell the team. DTS gets what's left.

I think it happened and it's name is Shelly. You have to go for a third worse thing that could happen

I am old so I have gone through a mother that died of dementia turning to Alzheimer's ,DTS reek of dementia just by the way he is acting. He needs to be interview by an African-American. he will get so riled up he will use the "N" word, then this drama will really get going but will also end.

Fellows and gals,a 1/2 weeks and he is done. Bank on it.
