Turkoglu played almost exclusively at PF last year, he's just too slow at SF now. He was ok last year though, better than Davis.

Hedo here for vet presence not bad would of liked a Elton Brand returm with Sam coaching.

I suppose he was better than Baby huh? If BBD is the worst player on our roster besides CJ and Reggie, we're doing pretty well.

Doc needs to give up the GM position. I am not happy with some of his moves and players that he likes. Turk and Hawes on the floor with Jcraw is going to be horrendous defensive team and slow. Doc is staying with what is safe and comfortable to him. I hope i am wrong but damn.

I have yet to say Jamal was amazing only that he has more value than the little some of you seem to parcel out. I've never said the team would fall apart without them but I can post several examples where people have said he is a negative or at best breaks even on his contributions to the team.

Good to hear Woike say how close we are to getting CDR. He's our no-brainer minimum signing right now. Even if we do trade for a starting 3, we need as many defensive wings as we can get.

D.J. Foster @fosterdj

Follow

Nothing says defensive frontcourt help like Spencer Hawes, Glen Davis and Hedo Turkoglu .

6:55 PM - 31 Aug 2014

I think Spencer Hawes was a good signing the other guys just don't fit, the second unit has no one that can defend, not even a little pesky. WE need a big wing shut down Defender and Hedo is not it.

well pretty sure this will lead to CDR but i was hoping to use 1 of our last roster spots on an young unproven athletic wing that could ride the bench and come in on occasions and be a pest.

If we sign Hedo and CDR that puts us at 13. Hope Udoh is #14. If we're gonna fill #15, make it a backup pg....Sessions I guess?

I have no problem with CDR he is steady. Not really a slasher but he can put the ball on the floor when they close out on him and get to the lane.

i Rather Delonte West than Sessions, get Delonte and Udoh and i would be happy and think everything worked out.

second unit Defensive line up

Delonte

Jcraw or Farmer

CDR

Udoh -----bigbaby when you need Beef

Hawes

That is damn good jcraw is the only weak link but easy to cover

I agree with Delonte over Sessions.

Defensive 2nd unit:

Farmar

West

CDR

Udoh

Hawes

I wouldn't be surprised if CDR beats out Barnes for the starting spot actually. It'll be close if CDR is still shooting around 38-40% from deep...

CDR+Sessions would be out of this world. Man how the hell isn't Sessions getting signed!? He was a freaking 6th man of the year caliber player last year!

You're right that Sessions scored the ball last season with some real authority...I like Delonte though since he's a 6'4" combo guard and good defender. Not quite the scorer that Sessions is, but more versatile.

I don't see the point in signing Hedo but whatever. If we have 3 spots open after him. CDR, Udoh & Sessions is what I want. Rather have Sessions over West only because he's younger and West hasn't played against NBA talent in awhile. I'd be ok with West though too.

CDR - 3&D

Udoh - D

Turk - Veteran leadership I guess. Continuity

1 more spot? Who is it? I like Sessions , don't see how he fits though. Rather try Toney Douglas

Sessions is more than a minimum player, that would be surprising. I remember his big playoff collapse with the Lakers. The guy is a career 25.8 mpg guy and has never played less than 21.1 mpg, not sure how the role we have for him is going to convince him to sign here.

He do looked horribly slow last season. Seems like an insurance signing. A vet who can step into a role when called upon if needed.

Cdr is a nice signing.

Sessions signing here doesn't makes since for him. He wouldn't get much of an opportunity to play.

Please stop with Udoh he is trash

Douglas Roberts makes you think of a younger Matt Barnes with less cutting, better 3PT shooting than Barnes when he was younger, better length and better dribble drive ability. He gets out on the break in a similar manner, moves of the ball and defends decently enough. The main reason he wasn't an NBA caliber player was his lack of 3PT shooting and offensive efficiency. If he truly has those things now, he's a nice player.

Udoh isn't trash, he's just a one-dimensional big man. His one dimension happens to be good DEFENSE. For minimum, he'd be a useful big.

(edited to just good defense lol)

Numbers would say other wise. He can be a decent defender but is not a really good defender or even close. He is too slow with short arms

I think really good defense is an exaggeration but his one forte is definitely defense. An above average defender for sure.

Still hoping we give Deandre Daniels to camp. I think he could be a steal. I wouldn't mind giving Jamal Franklin a camp invite too.

I love Deandre Daniels. He'd be a great guy to take a flier on, but I don't think bringing in a rookie is in the cards. Doc is looking for guys on the vets minimums since we are a championship calibre team.

For a guy who went in the second round, I actually think Daniels could end up being a Chandler Parsons. More likely nothing is ever heard from him, but I saw every game he played in college. He can do a lot of things that he never was able to do at Uconn because they had Napier and Boatright totally dominating the ball.

He's a great shooter with excellent range.

I know that rooks are probably out of the question, I just feel if you take CDR you have to take a flyer on someone not Hedo. I understand that we have two rookies essentially but think Daniels has higher potential as a 3 and D guy than either.

I'd just like to bring up the point that

1) Hedo will be our third string PG

2) Liggins won DPoY in the D-league last year.

Which means our roster really is rounding out great!

CP3/Farmar/Turk

JJ/Crawford/Wilcox/Liggins

Barnes/CDR/Bullock

BG/Davis

DJ/Hawes

Now we all know how much Doc loves his 3-guard rotation, and I think that's one of our strongest line-ups, which means the versatility of the PG/SG/SF spots are huge. Small ball is also an option, with Barnes or Point-Hedo at the four. I feel like our only positional weakness as it stands right now is getting one more big. Think Gutavo Ayon, Elton Brand, or Ekpe Udoh.

According to Mark Stein, we're also "showing interest" in this guy...

http://espn.go.com/blog/marc-stein/post ... way-to-nba

Apparently, he didn't have a great year in Tel Aviv last year, but he's showing well for Australia at the world cup.

Here's his highlight reel from last year.

Haha!

Whirlpool might be a good nickname for him... kinda like black-hole. Admittedly, I know nothing about the guy except what I got from the article and video - but even though his step-back jumper looks pretty sweet, I got the impression he's a little too in love with it.

Still, he seems like a decent bet for a camp invite. Really good size, looks pretty mobile and athletic. Bit of a worry that there wasn't a single block or steal in those highlights, but I'd have him come in and chase JJ around for a month to see if he buys in defensively.

Seems like he might be looking for a guaranteed deal, though.

This adds to what I keep saying. Jamal AND Redick is not easy for a team to work with as a SG rotation, especially when you get to the playoffs because a lot of the playoffs is about matchups and they just don't cover each other's weaknesses. In addition, in terms of impact, they are both 1 way players. I believe that ideally one needs to go, but I'm not saying it can't work with both, you can many times figure it out of make it up somewhere else, but it adds some difficulty. My reservation against Redick was always why get him if you have Jamal, and if you are getting him with Jamal, then you should be moving Jamal not because he's worse or sucks, but because you committed to a guy who does not compliment him that well in a rotation.

It's a totally different story if you have a different type of player at either spot. Of course there's the age issue with Jamal, no one ends up winning vs father time, so his shelf life is not known, but if I have like Danny Green, or Jimmy Bulter (just random examples) at starting SG, what's the point of moving Jamal? If he's struggling I can leave one of those guys in. They can both move over and guard SF's. I can play them with Jamal and he isn't having to play SF. They are defenders, so if both them and Jamal are struggling, I can put the guy who defends in and he can give production that isn't tied to offensive ability.

If you have Dwight Howard, do you really want Omer Asik off the bench? They are awful playing together and have similar weaknesses. Channing Frye is a better backup to Howard because he can do things Howard can't and they would be an effective combo. You have Kevin Love, do you really want Paul Millsap off the bench? He's a good player, but he demands more than simple backup minutes, now you have to play one of them at C since they will have to play together. Amir Johnson isn't as skilled as Millsap, but he's a better option because while he doesn't have the bulk of a C, in terms of skills (rim protection, defense), he pairs much better and can be used at C next to Love.

It's not all about who are the best players individually. It's about what combination of guys come together and make the best team. Which again is why I also didn't get the Ray Allen thing. At 39, how much can he do defensively? I'll give him props, 9/3/2 with 39% 3PT and .581 TS% in the playoffs in 26 minutes was good last year, that was 20 games worth of production, but come on. Now, okay, if it is because you're going to trade Redick or Jamal and get a higher level SF, then sure, Ray Allen can work just to fit in for now until you can get a younger guy at SG.

I think the last part is what people forget. It's not JJ or Jamal for Ray or anybody else like that. It's more like if we can get a Wilson Chandler for Jamal and Reggie then we add Ray.

Hope this isn't true. I rather have turk. This dude is a bum.

Charlie Villanueva is close to making a decision on signing with the Mavericks or Clippers.

It's expected to be a one-year deal for the former Piston. Villanueva made it clear he's not going to be back with Detroit next season, which isn't a surprise after he didn't really crack the rotation. He'll have a tough time getting in the rotation in L.A. or Dallas.

Jamal is an amazing player, but on this club his salary could really be used on a position of greater need. Some people like me just feel that Redick should be the starting SG and ideally Jamal should be traded for a better small forward. As Zero keeps reiterating if we didn't have Redick there probably wouldn't be such a call to trade Jamal. Love the guy just would rather see his salary be going toward a greater area of need like the SF.

Repped High Quality Post

Wilson chandler for jc? Really? Wilson chandler has never done anything in this league but be injured. He isn't a great scorer, had one good shooting season behind the arc, rebounding is average at best, and defense is just about average when healthy.

He is nowhere near an upgrade over Jamal and arguably not an upgrade over barnes.

I see names getting thrown around of players who have never done nothing special. Jamal was clutch last year in numerous games. And when cp3 went down him and Blake kept us afloat.

People try to reduce Jamal on this board to an ISO chucker, but I only missed one game last season and clearly Jamal was a critical piece to our success.

Even in clutch playoff plays against okc when he basically won the game for us with collision at the end.

The lack of respect I see for Crawford really just shows many peoples lack of basketball understanding.
