I knew it! as soon as I posted Ed Davis was available, I knew we'd be intertested.

Would be a better pickup than Big Baby.

Eh...I'm not so sure on Ed Davis. If he can be had for cheap, sure, but that free throw % makes me want to vomit. Definitely better than Big Baby though.

Good call CJ!!! I like his athleticism and length as well. He would be a solid pick up.

Can someone explain the love for Ed? I will not knock him because I do not know much about him

Grab this guy and a patrick patterson or jordan hill and we are perfect. Maybe another vet big to spot everyone.

He is still relatively young, has shown solid skills on both offense and defense, good rebounder and probably can be had for cheap. I think it's more a realistic idea that people actually like more so than we all love him above other FA.

Exactomundo!

He is in our price range and the guy has potential. I've always felt he never got a real chance. I like the idea of getting bench players like him rather than older players on their way out.

I agree Clipper*joe and Clipperboy24, and think the same thing about Gustavo Ayon. Two back up guys that could be had for less than a Jordan Hill, and much less than a Spencer Hawes.

The only thing about those type guys is the unknown. We can get a solid role player or we can get a dud, but I do feel we have to take at least one chance. So you at least sign one guy like this. Maybe one in the front court since you already have two new players on the wings (Bullock and CJ).

Ed would be nice, good length, good defensive instincts, decent athlete. He has a bit of a C's game in some areas, but in a PF's body because of his lack of strength. He does have a little 10-15 FT short jumper too that he seemed to be getting decent at in Toronto, but haven't seen as much or him with Memphis.

I do agree that I don't like that his FT% has kept getting lower after a being over 60% earlier in his career. He should be cheap and he's a decently productive guy. Though thin we can still pair him with Blake because he has the length and instincts to do the rim protection related things on defense that a C does.

Should be used as Blake's back up. Emergency use as a C.

doc can do his magic on him and turn him into a good asset..like he did with dj..

we just need to sign him to a 4 year deal so he cannot get away so soon..

just in case dj leaves next year...maybe 4 years with the last 2 being a team option???

I am coming around to the Ed Davis kid.

Good Finisher. Once he grasp Doc defensive concept he can be really good

He's really good already. Mistake by Memphis not to re-sign him.

I like Davis. Get him and Ivan Johnson for the min and that should be our front court.

Clippers have reached out to free agent forward Ed Davis, sources

Haven't seen much news on him, I think PHX is our only competition for him... hope we sneak him in here, maybe BAE...?

Well well well...We reached out to Davis? About dams time. Finally, an attainable goal. I thought it would have been sooner.

If we do end up signing Ed Davis, I hope we lock him up for as many years as possible. With the right work ethic and coach I think he can play the Taj Gibson role for us within the next 2 years.

He's still a work in progress, but even if he doesn't improve at all he'd still be a better backup for Blake than he's ever had.

Sweet.

I think this is a smart move. Sometimes you go after guys that are out of your price range for too long and then miss out on other guys that were your 2nd options and more obtainable.

Ed Davis is a guy who makes sense on this roster. You can play him both with Blake and with DJ, and he won't cost and arm and a leg. He's probably a guy you could get one a 2 year / $4-5M deal with a team or player option for year 2.

I don't know if he will want to be locked up on a small contract for long because he might want to test the market if he plays well with us. It still would be nice to get a big with the size to play C and the ability to shoot with range who can play at least average defense.

Well, I think a 2 year deal would suffice. We don't want to get another Dudley on this roster, so a 2 year deal wouldn't hurt us if he didn't pan out. if he does work out after this year then extend him. Dudley kind of traumatized me in a way unless the player's talent is proven I would rather a short contract

Please get Davis! I'd offer him BAE for 3-4 years. So that when Doc inevitably gets more out of him, we can afford to keep. So something like 6.3 million over three years or something. Although for a 25 year old big of his caliber, I wouldn't mind the team splitting MLE either and using Jamal to acquire the upgrade at SF. Davis is an 11/11 type player PER 36 and a solid defender. He needs to put on some muscle and let Doc mold him.

Ed Davis would be a great pick n' pop player with Collison.

Ed Davis was not a good fit for Memphis. I didn't like how they never ran plays for him. He's not really a grind it out player, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but if we get him he'd actually be used in offensive sets and not to mention he can carry on that stupid "Lob City" moniker.

I'm not sure he's ready to be a defensive stopper at the Center position, but he's more than capable against PF's. I love the idea of Davis.

I'm assuming you mean roll. His range on the pop is more like 10-13 feet, not much of a long mid-range shooter, but very nice rolling to the basket.

Surprised that the Griz let him go. He is a quality player. Would be an excellent backup to Blake and can play C occasionally too.

Lets definitely get him locked down and then make a trade for a SF and we will be solid. Crawford is starting to get up there in age and provides nothing but offense (which I do appreciate) but we need players contributing more on both sides of the court. If we can keep Reggie he would be a great sg off the bench with his rebounding and defense.

Sign&trade anyone? I still think we should get Ed Davis somehow. I really like how he plays and think it would be better to have a 4 big rotation. We could possibly trade Bullock and a 2nd rounder for him, if Memphis would do so.

This would be epic for the vet minimum. It'll probably be a S&T though.

Like I said if we can trade Dudley for a backup PF. Sign Marion to start.

Paul - Farmar

Redick - Crawford

Marion - Barnes

Griffin - Davis

DJ - Hawes

Would be epic man

I must agree, He would have gotten 3 possibly 4 ( if we sign Marion ) for cheaper than expect which is the job of the GM

I don't want to get my hopes up because that would be very difficult to pull off, but that roster would be my ideal roster.

Wow, we would be unstoppable.

Ed Davis had an average salary of $2,335,775.

Vet minimum possible? Hmm...

Come on Doc put on your top hat and give him the best song and dance you've got.

I agree, that's wishful thinking to assume he'd take vet min, but also look how it worked out for Collison.

I wonder what a S&T with the Grizzlies would consist of, what do they need?

Marion would be an amazing starting SF. There are only two issues that Doc will have to keep in mind.

  1. He's not really a shooter, and outside of layups and that sort of thing, I'm still mystified as to how his shooting form even gets the ball in the hoop. As long as everyone here realizes he'll be mainly used to defend and be a slasher, it should be alright.

  2. He's 36. Just means Doc will have to very carefully manage his minutes so he'll be ready come playoff time. Good thing he has experience with that from his Celtic days.
