No one forced them to offer him that much though. Could they seriously not negotiate something for like $15M at his age, it's not like he's young.

Here is the question. Yes Kobe is a warm soapy enema but LAL had to re sign him because is WAS the franchise. He twisted their arm. If Melo is signed, Kobe may not be the best scorer. No star quality player would be an LAL and lick Kobe's pi*kle. "Kobe Time" may be "Melo Time"' With bad pins he could get embarrassed especially if the team lets it happen. Good LAL PR could make him seemed like a washed up pig. Kobe is going to tank the team. If I were the FO, I'd try to pack the roster and ride out Kobe but make it clear who calls the shots. (pun intended?) The FO can play hardball too. Don't give him the ball. Piss him off so he shoots of his mouth. As long as Melo drops his points LAL fans have short memories.Chamberlain deferred to West and Baylor and became the league leader in assists. Kareem deferred to Magic. Duncan would have deferred but he still has mojo. If he weren't a jackass Melo would be there in a heartbeat. STFU

The upshot is - Deng may not go to LAL and probably not to Miami unless he wants to come off the bench.

I could actually see the heat doing some type of sign and trade with the Cavs for Deng and maybe another piece. Deng is solid but he is a little deluolsional.

Read on Hoopshype Clippers are trying to trade Dudley Bullock and a pick for Spencer Hawes before the 10th so we can give Paul Pierce the midlevel but the rrade has been on hold because Cavs are still hopefull they can sign LBJ

If we can add Paul Pierce and have Matt Barnes off the bench even with out giving up Crawford and JJ... that would be great

Is it realistic that we could sign&trade for Luol now that the Cavs think they have a legit shot a LeBron?

No, that makes it less likely. They won't want to take on any contracts if they are trying to free up money to sign LeBron to a Max contract.

If this is true, then we are going to have to look in other directions for sure. Can somebody tell me if it is possible to use a different team besides the free agent's last one to be the one to sign&trade the free agent to your team? For example, the Clippers talk to the Suns and ask them to sign Luol Deng then trade him to us for w/e assets they were looking for, is this legal?

Nope. No team may sign & trade another team's free-agent.

They could do a three way trade where the Cavs sign-and-trade Deng will Phoenix getting players from us and us getting Deng.

...and Cavs getting picks. Teams don't just give other teams good players of fun. If Cavs get Lebron, Clippers are now a possible finals opponents so if you are them, you're definitely not trying to give them a player who can defend Lebron decently.

Yeah it would make for a wild free-agency period. Cap space would be king for small-market teams.

If you're a team like Minnesota where nobody really wants to go, you just structure your roster so everybody's deals end the same year and you have room for 2 or 3 max players. S&T the best free-agents to where they want to go and you could build a pretty nice team overnight.

If you made a run at LeBron and 'Melo, you could easily get back DJ, Crawford, Dudley from us; maybe Harden and Parsons from the Rockets, plus a boatload of picks from both.

Last I checked, Parsons is RFA meaning the Rockets could match. Therefore Dallas will still be in play for Deng.

Yeah, but even then wouldn't the Rockets be looking at Deng to replace Parsons?

No matter what happens I think we are out of the Deng running. Time to go full steam at Ariza.

Wizards showing uneasiness. Maybe they feel Ariza is leaving. Deng and Washington is a perfect fit.

Lets get this done

Whoa that is a ton of money for Chandler Parsons. Max deal basically. Good for us overall. Still have a hard time respecting Dallas as a real threat, meanwhile it hurts Houston. Even if they get Bosh, they're still a better team with Parsons imo.

Where is Arash Markazi? He's our clips insider. Lately haven't seen him report on LAC. probably paying more attention to soccer.

Welp, I guess I was wrong about the Hawks having the inside track on Deng. He will probably go to Miami. Just made an offer to Gasol, but he likely will turn it down.

I think I'm done as a fan of my team after 20 years. It just ain't happening.

We could be back in the running for Deng.Bulls,Wizards, and Maybe the Mavs are out because they can't offer him the money he wants.Mavs are still in play if they don't land Parsons but with Ariza signing with Houston I don't know how much sense it would make for them to pay two SF over $20 Mill when they really need a PF.They could match but with them signing Ariza I would assume that Houston are passing on matching Parson's contract.

The biggest threat to get Deng now is Miami who can offer him the money he wants. Now it's up to him to decide if he wants to contend or wants to get paid.I believe Cavs are under the cap right now which means they still have the ability to sign and trade Deng.If we offer Crawford,Barnes, and Bullock that gives them depth and both Barnes and Crawford nonguaranteed contracts next year. Those 3 contracts combined are 10+Mill which is a little less than Deng wants but the Heat are going to be a team that at best make the Playoffs.I think it's now between us,Heat, and Mavs if they miss out on Parsons.Hope Doc can talk Deng and Cavs into a sign and trade.

I've cooled off on the idea of adding Ariza or Deng in the last few days.

I prefer to get Pierce. He'll only be on a 1-2 year contract which gives us flexibility in the future which we need.

Pierce can also guard a lot of NBA PF's which is good because then we can put Blake on athletic SF's like Kawhi, LBJ, Iggy, Ariza...etc

Doesn't he want a 2 year 18-20 Mill contract? No way I would pay him that and even if we were willing to sign him for that much the Nets have no interest in doing a sign and trade.Only thing we can offer him is the minimum but have a hard time seeing him take a minimum contract.

Marion or The Chief should be in our sights with S&T deals. Those teams will be willing to take some of our "stuff" more then the other teams we were hoping to deal with.

I'd actually be almost as happy with Marion as I would have been if we got Ariza/Deng, but I'm still expecting another year of our current scrub SF's at this point.

I'd much rather have Aminu than Pierce, but our name hasn't been brought up in regards to him.

I'd do a Marion S&T only if they somehow take back Dudley (they won't).

Our name not having been bought up is a good thing IMO. Means we're going in stealth mode, lol. Particularly since we lost out on Ariza and most likely Deng.

Dudley or Jamal is ok by me.

Dudley and Jamal for Marion? Or Dudley and Jamal for Aminu?

I'd probably opt for Dudley and Jamal for Aminu (youth), but I don't believe it would take that much to get him. Marion maybe, but maybe not. Cuban's a bit smarter and more into advanced stats the the N.O. FO.

I'd do that for Aminu if they throw in Darius Miller or James Southerland.

I'd do straight up for Aminu and like I said don't believe it would take that much. If their that dumb to throw in Southerland, great.

Darius Miller they can keep.

While his 3PT shooting hasn't developed, drastically improved at getting shots near the basket and finishing near the basket, decrease turnovers and has improved as a rebounder. He's 23 years old, turning 24 in September and still has room to grow. Versatile defender, and very good length, quickness and athletic ability.

At the basket, he went from:

31.5% of attempts / 57.8% FG

38.9% of attempts / 56.3% FG

To...

48.9% of attempts / 64.2% FG

45.3% of attempts / 66.1% FG

That coincided with an increase in FG% which was also due to basically no longer shooting three's, and also an increase in TS% from .499 and .481 to .519 and .516. He's still an inefficient scorer, that's for sure, but he combination of increasing his percentages and decreasing turnovers make him not a bad offensive player anymore, though still below average with a 105 Ortg at only 14.3% usage.

Doc got to take some GM tips from Riley, 20 million for 2 years is a great contract for the heat for this type of player, not bloated very short term commitment

$20mil for 2 years is about what he should get if anything he should be a $9mil a year player.

And Doc didn't have $20mil to offer.

tense2

And it would have been nice IF Doc could have made such an offer. We couldn't. Tip was useless, lol.
