You mean, "Thank goodness he's out of range" lol. He's the next Byron Mullens.

8 mil? Ouch- yeah I don't think he will be a Clipper next season, lol.

Olshey is very interested.

Ugh, I heard. I'm REALLY hoping the Blazers don't take him, and not just because the liberal paradise that is Portland will tar and feather him once they find out he's a conservative.

Dunkathon- do you live in portland or are you just a blazer fan?

Hawes has already accomplished more than Mullens could dream of. He won't be any where close to a mulleins

I live in Oregon, which is part of the reason why I'm a big Blazers fan.

I just see his total lack of defense, the vast amount of points he put up on bad teams, and the fact he's crazy enough to ask for $8 million all as bad signs that he shouldn't be picked up. I really hope Olshey is seeing something I'm not, because otherwise, this could be really bad.

Only reason i say this is bc i live in Portland and don't think the fans here would care at all about him being a conservative or whatever he is. I think he's asking for too much for my tastes too but that is what decent centers in our league get to do bc there is so few people who can even mediocrely play the position.

On another note, GO DUCKS!

I'm mostly joking about the whole tar and feather thing lol, but I do find it funny he's such a conservative considering he hails from Seattle, another liberal city. I'm more concerned about his defense than anything else really.

GO BEAVS!

(But I don't mind rooting for the Ducks as long as they're not playing my Beavers).

NW conservatives are a rare breed, but he is a big, rich, white dude from a well off family... That seems to fit the bill

Would love to have Hawes if he's willing to take less money(not happening). I kind of wanted Doc to pursue him last season. Just hope he doesn't go to the Warriors or the Thunder.

Felt like he was just trying to use the clipper name to boost recognition with other teams. With all the other bigs out there we shouldn't strike out.

Yep, no need to blow all our cash on him when we need a decent SF most of all. Especially since there are other backup bigs who can be had for cheaper and will contribute solidly.

Guys if he comes here for cheap. I will gladly accept him. As well as Deng or Ariza or Pierce.

Hawes would fit well with this team. I think once we get better wing defenders. Our bigs will not look as bad.

Someone suggested us trading Jamal for a cheap wing defender like Shumpert. Not that I agree with that , but here is what I think should be done. Trading Jamal (5+mil) for Shumpert (2+mil) clears....

Why is Rivers meeting with him? Hawes wants to get paid.

I don't understand why none gets it. We have to clear like 5 mill just to get to the cap. at that point we have to clear whatever else to sign more people. if you want to sign some one for 8 mil, we have to clear around 13 at this point..... your scenario is IMPOSSIBLE.

Its nice that you guys are trying but try and figure out the cap situation first before wasting your time with all these wild signing possibilities. you'll be a lot happier in the long run

Thank you Jered, I've said it too many times. People keep thinking we get rid of $5M and that's just $5M more to spend, but I do understand that not everyone gets how the cap thing works. All saving $3M does is bring us $3M further from luxury tax. Also Knicks as an over the cap team can't make a trade where they get more than 120% in salary back anyways.

ClipperKyle, you should use this website: http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm

Get you a better idea of how the cap works and how we can't just get every player Wink

Why would you compare him and Mullens though? Mullens was a bad player that for some reason people thought would magically become good because he came to our team and he remained a bad player. Hawes is actually an above average basketball player.

Of course we won't be able to afford him though, but that's fine.

That was our MLE right? Hope it was worth it. Bae on Pierce.... Sign and trade for Deng and I call this a successful offseason... Though I don't know much about hawes

Actually we just got him. The cap situation is not static. Nothing is impossible. The only issue really is not whether we can afford players, because exceptions, trades, and pay cuts can be made. The main issue is whether Hawes provides what we need. I haven't seen him play, but if he's not a defensive addition then I'm worried this will have been a bad acquisition.

Absolutely still possible. I believe he took the MLE , but we aren't were paying Pierce anywhere close to that. Maybe the Minimum. I find....

Great move! Hope we get Deng too. Assuming spencer plays close to his career averages this is a great offensive pick up.

Real solid move. Get a starting SF and the FO will have won me over again after a rocky start to the offseason!

Thanks for the update Kyle. Don't understand how we were able to do this. The cap is such a mercurial thing. The Hawes signing, which many of us didn't see as possible just came out of the blue. No one has a grasp of the cap and what our limits are

I'm iffy on this pickup. Also, we are gonna be dangerously close to the hard cap, too, provided we can s/t a decent SF. But Doc really loves his shooters lol

I heard since he signed for 3 mil more than the cap, Clippers are officially a hard capped team which mean they can't do sign and trades.

I think hawes would be a great addition (when healthy) hopefully this work out for us, the floor spacing he can give would greatly benefit us!

THIS. I was so worried today. We did nothing so far and BOOM! Woj with the Woj Bomb. Honestly I doubt we just signed him. We can't sign anyone else. I believe we went ahead with....

So can I get a serious answer, can we still do a S&T for Deng? Because I have people telling me we can't after being a tax paying team after this signing.

^^^^ his name is Ballmer! Something about we can resign him , but we'd face Luxury Tax. Ballmer has no issue paying that. Its the same thing Brooklyn did.

Wow- well it's nice that Spencer was willing to come down from his $8 mil #. But he is a center, so I wonder if this means that DeAndre Jordan is on the way out? I doubt that the Clippers would sign a backup for that much $, even if Hawes could backup at the 4 and the 5.

Wow, I can't believe we actually got Spencer. That is awesome. Now if we could just get Deng or Pierce I'll be very satisfied. This offseason just went from look bleak to bright in a heartbeat. Kudos to Doc on that one.

He's a perfect backup center for us. He's good at all the things that DJ is not. Well done.

I have a feeling this means dj gets traded for deng and waiters. With wiggins there, they could trade waiters.

Doc just talked Spencer Hawes out of $12mil guaranteed money that he was looking to get.

Convincing the lowly Cavs FO to take Jamal and Dudley off our hands for Deng should be a walk in the park for Doc.
