I'm not that "high" on deandre jordan and if we can flip him for deng I would do it. He has nice stats but I don't think he is vital to a championship run.

Why PP? He should be doing the S&T for Deng, not to preserve it and get Pierce. Nonetheless, great pickup. Just when everyone was starting to lose hope too.

‏@WojYahooNBA: Doc Rivers trying to work sign-and-trade w/ Cavs for Hawes, preserving Clippers exception to still target Paul Pierce, sources tell Y.

So I guess we're going to stick with Pierce, no Deng??

I am not sure trading the future for 1 year. Redick isn't going anywhere , because if Jamal goes. No SCORING ....

Haha, I guess no Pierce then. We should go all out for Deng, and I like that trade in the first tweet ^

I hope he's not trying to go after pierce,we need defense and pierce doesn't provide that.

Yeah I'm not sure why Doc is so content on reuniting with Pierce. If this the PP of even 4 years ago sure but I don't see how he fits this team with Hawes now in the fold. Nets just got a decent coach so I'm not sure why the Nets would want to part ways with Pierce. Doc should just focus on Deng.

Yep that sounds like a possibility. I'm not sure, however, if DJ will be willing to extend his contract there, which may be a prerequisite for the Cavs to do such a trade.

CP, Redick, Deng, Blake and Hawes. I don't like that line up at all

that would be counter intuitive because that would leave us with no backup big again

Was this sarcastic? That is am awesome lineup. Deng is a great defender and Paul isn't too shabby himself.

Who were they going to get that's better? I"m not crazy about Hawes, but he has a proven track record and we desperately need a big man. At the end of the day we should all be pleased with this IMO.

Also, he's a movable piece. The guy is a legit 6'11 that can shoot threes. This is a win for the Clippers IMO.

Hawes is going to be great for pulling Ibaka out of the paint. Similar to what Diaw did.

We would then have good perimeter defense, but awful interior defense. Teams will kill us in the paint.

Not to rain on the parade, but Hawes, despite his numbers looking great, may not be the answer we need. We need help on the defensive end, and he looks to me to be a finesse/offensive player. Kind of like a Pau Gasol. I welcome the addition, but I'm not sure this will make us better. If we land another player with Hawes to provide defense then its all good, but Hawes on his own may not make much of a difference

It's all about which side you are on. We can't initiate a signing and trade that player but we can trade any of our existing already signed players.

ClipperKyle was waiting for something to happen and there it is.

Hawes isn't bad, gives us a 6th man type big if DJ is staying which I'm assuming, but maybe not? Probably a below average defender, could be averagish, but he's a good all-round offensive player and a stretch big man who also rebounds well.

So as of now it is about MLE, if we can figure something else out we could do a sign and trade for him. This is actually a really good deal for Hawes, we got a guy to take a paycut because really in the market he could get about $8M.

I'm not complaining. Now if Cleveland is interested we can do a sign and trade with them, and if not we can still get our guy. Now the SF. We might have to settle for a guy like a a Marvin Williams.

Thank god we drafted Wilcox. It would've looked bad if our first signing since the Sterling scandal was a white dude. Jk

I like this signing, a lot.Hawes can pass, score, block shots etc. Do we have big baby for next season as well or is he a FA? Would love to bring him back too. Not quite sure what we could offer for Deng.

I like this signing as long as we can lockdown a starting SF somehow. If not then we should have spent the Hawes money on that

Ahh, I don't like that. DJ firstly has more value than that, and while Deng is good, Deng is not that good, and then were back to square one of not having an adequate backup big man.

I'd rather trade DJ to like Denver for Chandler and Mozgov (yea, that's a hard sell for them, what are you going to do with DJ and McGee), or something of that nature.

Spencer Hawes excited to join Clippers

"Even taking a little less money, this opportunity was too exciting to pass up," Hawes told Yahoo Sports on Friday night. "I've had a taste of the playoffs before, but being a part of this team will be just incredible. You get to a point where you really realize what's important, and I was thinking: 'What would my 12-year-old self have done? What would he prioritize?' It was this opportunity and what they're building with the Clippers."

With Hawes, the paint could be less clogged for Griffin to operate. His 3 point shooting kind of also offsets the low % Deng offers from deep. Deng is better than Barnes on offense, however. Defensively and rebounding wise, Hawes is not going to be as nearly as good as DJ, but Deng should be better than Barnes, if just slightly.

So yeah it's tough to gauge which lineup would perform better in the long haul and playoffs- close call IMO. And this is not even considering player-durability. But if the Clippers are not going to be able to re-up Jordan next season due to salary demand, this move may have to be made.

One of the benefits of this move is that it is a buffer against overpaying DJ when he expires. Hawes is signed at a bargain for 4 seasons, that's a good thing.

Our next move should be to hire Scott Skiles as an assistant coach / defensive coach and initiate him doing what he did with Bogut on defense to Hawes because Bogut was not close to an elite defender before Skiles and crew, then he became a DPOY level defender. Bring on the Skiles man, at least see what he can do.

Blake and Hawes passing is going to give us a San Antonio look / old school Kings look:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KaYcB7Mc9Wo

Also about Hawes defense, he might not be quick footed, but it seems like he can be a big player on a good defense (if you have other defensive guys). Philly was 7th and 3rd in Drtg with Hawes when Brand and Iguodala were there, but even in 12-13 without them, they were still average at 15th with Hawes starting at C, so his defensive rebounding, length and shot blocking is at least allowing him to be helpful on defense.

Ryan Hollins/Big Baby/ Jamison/ Mullens <<<<<<< SPENCER HAWES. that is automatic improvement actually has longer arms and size to block shots unlike the other except Hollins

He is a steal at that price but his defense is horrendous and our problems lie in our defense not offense.

GREAT 3rd big, and like Agent says he gives us a little latitude to play hardball on DJ's contract next summer, but by no means should we be looking to ship DJ out for a SF just because we now have another 7-footer.

Jamal/JJ plus Dudley/Barnes with maybe Bullock or picks should be the next move to bring in an upgrade at the 3.

If we're gonna trade DJ for Deng might as well go for the red rocket matt bonner or Blair to make the SA transformation

Love this move its to use a sixth man big in a rolle similar to Odom (Doc knowing hoe to better balance than Vinny) just in case mode. Now more than ever I think Doc needs to grab Ed Davis when he goes full bench unit.

No way do you move jordan for a move like this that is ass backwards. We still need a defensive bench big.

Who knows, we don't need to worry about that right now, but not Deng, at least not for our team.

Before I could have seen an argument for something like Miles Plumlee and Channing Frye because Plumlee brings a lot of similar things and you save money, but even that is iffy, remember Plumlee is the same age too, but with Hawes, that is useless.

Right now if a team can give us a combo of a pretty good SF and another fairly decent big, then that's when we could talk of moving DJ, outside of that, doesn't really make sense.

EDIT: We can monitor the market for Okafor. Give him a 2 year deal with a player option next season, remember he's still only 30 years old. If he plays well, then if DJ's contract demands are too high for us to meet, he can opt our for a larger contract, but still only making about $6-7M. We'd have Okafor + Hawes for the same price as what we would have to pay DJ. As a team in our position, paying DJ $12M or so is a hard pill to swallow.

I would be very surprised to see DJ go. He is one of Doc's "Big Three" and one of the best defensive centers in the league. Hawes will give us the best backup center in the league and a guy who can do many of the things DJ can't do, like shoot. They will be perfect compliments to one another. Hawes may also be in the game at the end, because DJ remains a liability on the court late in games because of his inability to make foul shots. There could also be occasions when Hawes and DJ are on the floor together.

This is a great first signing and solves one of our three weaknesses. The other two remain, starting SF and backup PG.

There are a lot of solid backup point guards around, so that shouldn't cost us too much. If Crawford and one of our SFs go in return for Deng, we could be one of the most improved teams in the league.

Then I would happily retract my previous statement and say that yes, it IS worth shipping DJ out for a SF.

It's unlikely, but I like the way you think.

Dj is nice but overrated here. His free throw shooting is a major major problem that some people like to pretend doesn't matter. It does. Also, he doesn't do anything but dunk. His defense is not as good as his gaudy stats indicate. I don't feel DJ is a long term guy for us and we should flip him when his value is high. Maybe not for Deng but to upgrade on the wing for sure. If I recall DJ didn't do a great job of contesting shots around the rim. His lower body isn't that strong allowing him to be moved by strong players. Also, he struggles against shooting big guys. He's far from the perfect player, although his athleticism and size is obviously nice to have
