Well.... Maybe he is just trying to get the Clippers to act. I mean now you understand the frustration from us at Clippers FO. Of course maybe Jameer Nelson wants to play here, or Toney Douglas like I....

He leaves to Kings, we still are over the cap and still only have the MLE and Bi-Annual. Kinda tells you where we're at.

To be honest when you have the best point guard in the game and hasn't shown signs of slowing down it doesn't worry me to much about DC leaving to another team. The FO has done a great job taking care of that position Eric Bledsoe, Darren Collison who both were definitely underpaid and I believe Doc and co. will find another PG to fill those shoes if DC decides to leave any where.

Yeah, the 10 + games (20 this past season) he usually misses really won't matter.

If Darren wants $3mm or more (which I think he actually has earned) we should take that money we would have spent on him and bring in grievis Vazquez who is a much better facilitator. That guy is an assist machine!

Collison was huge for us but purely for the sake of forcing the team to spend money at other positions, I'm all for letting him go. It was clear that for Darren it was all about the money and I don't want guys like that on the team. If he truly loved the team and wanted to stay here like he said, he would of taken the option year. Sure he can get paid more and needs to look out for himself but his actions didn't line up with his words. Back up PG's are pretty easy to replace.

So he should play for free? I mean he said he loves the team right??? How about Blake and CP3? Should they void their contracts and sign for the vets min?? We got a year of Darren for much much less than he's worth.

I'm all for giving Delonte West a chance if he works hard. Love the energy and toughness.

Good for DC... now lets go after Jared Bayles he's better then Collison defensively but isn't as good as offensively does have a decent long ball thou

If that's what it took, we didn't have a chance. Can spend 5+ million on a backup guard. Sacramento must expect Thomas to leave.

Repped High Quality Post

Wow.... Sacramento just bailed our FO out of their own stupidity. No reason to spend the MLE on a backup point guard in a PG-rich league when we don't have a starting SF or backup big. Thankfully that's no longer an option.

Who knew DC had such an ego? You're a backup at the least important and most stacked position in the league, Darren - and the Clippers have bigger holes to fill!

Hope he enjoys losing in Excremento.

He could have just said it was about the money and I would respect that. We have too many needs to spend that much money on a point guard when we are already paying Paul 20 million a year. He made it personal. Whatever, whatever mystique we had last season with players aggressively wanting to come here is over. No doubt courtesy in part of the Donald. Also, some decisions we made last summer are really biting us now... Trading for Dud, re-signing matt barnes, not getting a decent backup big. Sucks.

My point is he made it seem like the front office didn't care about keeping him. Clearly that's not true

Precisely! As Fred Katz put it... the Clippers were saved from themselves. I knew when I heard the Clippers were considering MLE on Collison that it could be a backbreaker. So this is actually great news to wake up to.

It wasn't for "much much" less than he deserved. He was coming off a mediocre year in Dallas where he again proved he wasn't starting material on a good team for a full season. The Clippers role was so perfect for him that it allowed him to multiply his value.

Let's get real and talk about the new NBA. With the salary cap, the best you can have is a superstar Big Three. And then you fill in the rest with the best second, third and fourth tier players that can be COACHED (read Gregg Popovich) into playing beyond their natural abilities. So, whatever flotsam and jetsam we get after CP3, BG and DJ must be coached by Doc to become great team players. Collison, shmolisson. One leaves another comes back.

The League is about which coach can take a Big Three and teach role players to work as a well-oiled machine -- like San Antonio.

Doc...it's up to you.

Congrats to DC on getting paid- it would have been tough for the Clippers to get close to that much $ for him.

What's selfish about wanting a chance to start over being a backup? You think he deserved to give the Clippers another discount? Nah, that is doing what's best for him.

I don't have a problem with DC leaving for another shot at starting, or for more money. You have to get what you think you deserve, you can still have love for the Clips but have to take care of you and yours first. I don't think this makes or breaks our off season either. I think what we do with our MLE can prove to be what makes or breaks our offseason.

Don't worry we can still mess it up by giving Pierce money. Personally I don't like the idea of giving Pierce anything over the min, unless we were trading him for Duds and giving him the same thing. He can be the new Duds. Maybe if we did a deal that lessens the salary cap hit and unloads Duds.

I'd be content with a Delonte West and Roberts from NO as cheap contract guys to replace DC.

Think the throwing dirt was the thing that rubbed people a little wrong. Doc came out and said DC was top priority compared to no thing said about davis or granger he should of felt needed. Whether Doc went through with being aggressive or not resigning him at least he out it out there his importance.

Team will need another scorer off the bench to compliment Jamal it just seems to get better results come post season.

Yeah, let's massively overpay DC so we no longer have our MLE to fill other needs. It's not like there's a ton of solid backup PG's on the market or anything.

Yeah, lets save 5 million so we can spend it on a game changing starting SF. Hell, we can't even get rid of our logjam of SF's.

saying Collison was massively overpaid when guys like Livi and Gordon got just as much or more is an overstatement.

Livingston and Gordon got overpaid, too. IMO, this offseason has been ridiculous and will just lead to another lockout down the road. Teams never, ever seem to learn.

Huh? How was it all for the money when the guy took a paycut last season? He was severely underpaid, now he's making fair market value, there's no shame in what he did at all, good for him.

clipper*joe, isn't Shaun making $16M/3 years and Gordon $9M/2 years, Collison is making more than Gordon and the same as Shaun, and him and Shaun were similarly productive players last season anyways. Gordon is the only iffy one, though I suppose his agent could argue that one should look at Jamal's season with Portland and then his production on a team that fit him better when he came here.

Anyways, it was always a tough sell to get Collison for the full MLE on a team with a high level starting PG. The reasoning is that we aren't now unable to get a backup PG or something, and in the playoffs, you're paying a guy $5.3M to play too few minutes. It is what it is, luckily the league actually has a lot of "good enough" PG's that this really isn't an issue.

Even if it is selfish, which it hardly is, why does he have any sort of obligation to us? We are being selfish as a team in our pursuits for what is best for us, but we want him to sit around and wait till we figure everything out and then give him the scraps. If he decides to do that, great, but there's no obligation for him to do so. His job as a FA is too look out for his interests, not that of the Clippers.

What is he supposed to be sworn loyal to us after on season, when we would trade him in a heartbeat to fill a more needed role.

More quotes from him

Pretty understandable and like what everyone said I didn't like the fact that we were gonna give him most of our MLE.http://m.ocregister.com/articles/deal-627865-doc-rivers.html

3 years, $16 million? The FO never had a chance of keeping him, it seems.

Oh well, there's quite a glut of decent to good point guards out there, so I won't be losing any sleep about this.

The heck are the Kings doing though? They should be trying to set up to tank for another year or two instead of this "win now" madness.

moments like this, I still wish we had Vinny working in the front office. I really feel like he had real vision and personality that could get players to take less and/or force other front offices to work out deals. I know he was a terrible coach, but we all know that he was a very good basketball businessman

Not quite sure who Vinny got to come here for less money. Plus not sure how Vinny could "force" other FO to work out deals. Gun or choke hold maybe, lol.

Now that's a moment I'd cherish. Very Happy

But seriously, best of luck to DC in SacTown. In all honesty, I am glad he left because he would have convinced Doc to overpay him otherwise.

I think we should just give Delonte West a chance, and it's not like he has to be a HUGE role player since he is playing behind the league's best PG.
