Back to the Future. Yikes, quickly turn that Delorean around Doc if you don't have the time/date set for 2008/09.

For the min I wouldn't be against it, but there should be higher priorities on a starting small forward not a back up. We currently have 3 back up small forwards and 0 starting small forwards. Now if we traded both Matt and Duds in a trade for a starting small forward not named Paul Pierce, I wouldn't mind Caron as a back up.

Basically, it would be for the veteran's league minimum since there is no sign and trade available. People would be against that? Are we still waiting on Lebron? If we're interested in Butler, it means our options are just about gone. Taking Butler on that type of salary if there are no other options is basically a No-brainer. Deng and Ariza want the money and have basically said so and we don't have any. A lot of teams are just salivating and waiting on the sidelines till the dominoes fall. They'll give them close to what they want outright without having to S&T. If Heat lose LeBronze, they're going to swoop in and take either Ariza or deng.

I'd rather bring back Butler on a cheap contract than overpay for a tired and old looking Pierce in a sign and trade.

I agree with Clipper*Joe.

I think that we should look into some more trade options, because I think that Jamal can be a valuable asset to someone. It doesn't have to be for Ariza or Deng, but maybe Wilson Chandler or Jeff Green or Carroll if they go get Deng. I think there will be a few options once the Lebron Carmelo thing is done, once they decide Ariza and Deng will fall into place then I believe some of the current small forwards on those teams will be available.

I think signing Caron can work in the sense that he can play 2 or 3 so if you just need him to fill in for a traded Jamal that can work. I wouldn't sign him with the idea of him starting again.

Ill take Butler off the bench, we still need a starter though.

Butler played well here. I like him. Off the bench could be good. Also the pursuit of him makes me thing a SF is on the move. I hope. If we were to move Barnes. I wouldn't mind Butler as his replacement.

How exactly does this mean we lost out on Ariza and Deng? This could very well just be a contingency plan IN CASE we whiff on all our better options.

"If we're interested in Butler, it means our options are just about gone."

Maybe I misread, but it sounds like you're assuming we already whiffed on Ariza and Deng and that's why we're pursuing Butler. I'm saying we don't know that for sure at all.

I'd rather go after Wesley Johnson that Caron Butler. Butler isn't better than Barnes or even Dudley. I mean he was barely better than a sucky Dudley last season. He's fine for the minimum if we move our other SF's and need a backup, but just signing him to this current roster is useless.

You misread. If we're down to Butler, it means the well is just about dry. That's all i meant. I also said the heat will get either Deng or Ariza now that Bron is gone. That leaves one of them. other teams might have the money outright give one of them what they want so our chances are dwindling fast.
