It's the FIBA World Cup, not even the Olympics. Hardly anyone cares.

pulling out of this competition helps Griffin a lot more. Even though I would have loved for him to enter , I remember reading a story of someone entering FIBA or Olympics and they returned to the NBA knowing a certain teammates weaknesses and were able to shut them down in the NBA season. It really helps that Blake doesn't enter. We don't need guys like Curry and others knowing Blake's weaknesses , but I bet Gentry knows a lot more. I think
Great players could careless what other players know because in their minds they are unstoppable Here is a....

For me playing for the flag is an honor representing your country in FIBA games.

What happened to Paul George tonight (Livingston-esque injury) is precisely why I'm glad Blake is staying home. Now the Pacers are screwed this season and George has to undergo a lengthy recovery process all because of a meaningless tournament that nobody cares about, and this is just a pre-tournament scrimmage!

This is what you expose your players when they play through team USA. I hate seeing this to Paul George. On the other hand, this is one of the heavy reasons I am glad Blake pulled out

Pacers season is done, and this could be a career defining injury. Ankle injuries are right there with knee injuries when it comes to not recovering fully. Hopefully PG comes back in about 2 seasons, but it's not looking good.

Seeing Rose today look like his old self gives me major hope that PG will eventually do the same.

Rose, Livingston and Ware will all be great examples of hope for Paul George to look to.

OMG, I just saw the replay of Paul George's horrific leg injury during the Team USA scrimmage. What an awful thing to happen to him. I hope he recovers fully.

Season-ending injuries like this can happen any time --- I'm relieved to know Blake Griffin bowed out of playing for Team USA this summer.

George broke his tibia and fibula in half. It was a clean break so that is a good thing. Just have to set it and wait for it to heal.

Yeah, this injury to PG isn't even in the same universe as the Livingston injury. This happens quite a bit in Muay Thai comps and he should be good to go before the season is over with little to no risk to future seasons.

Those in the know are already saying PG is most likely out for the whole season, so I'm not really sure why people keep saying he'll be back during the season.

Also, I don't think anyone's comparing the severity of George's injury to Livingston's. It's the greusomeness in real time that was really reminiscent of Livingston.

Woj is reporting that this injury might be the tipping point for stars no longer appearing in international play. Patriotism aside, if you were an NBA owner, would you be comfortable allowing your highest-paid and/or most important players to play in exhibition games that don't count after this?

The pinnacle is the nba and for the game to grow internationally Fiba games, world cups and Olympics are needed and since the US have the best players they need to participate not only out of patriotism but to promote the game.

The game has already grown, and it has a lot more to do with Yao, Dirk, Manu, and of course, Jordan's play in the NBA - not crap like the FIBA World Cup.

thank god BG32 is not playing. I feel bad what happen to Paul George. I spoke to sports writers. PG will not be back season at ALL. Maybe not even the start of the following season either. It all depends on recovery & rehab.

Generally breaks aren't really a problem in coming back to full strength from. It is tendons and ligaments that cause problems, breaks generally just look more gross.

Luckily it wasn't his ankle, that would have been awful, oh man

True, from the look I thought it was his ankle... Those generally are career altering.. Luckily as you said it was just a broken leg, He'll be fine.

Sorry for misinterpreting your post. When you said that the injury was "Livingstonesque" it certainly sounded like you were comparing the severity of the injury and not its appearance to a spectator. Eight months is typically more than enough time to recover from a broken leg, so it would seem like he COULD come back before the season is over, but it has been commonplace for teams to hold players out the entire season despite the player publicly stating that they are good to go (Rose and Noel are prime and recent examples). Money is likely the active force behind moves such as these, or, possibly, the team may just want to pack the season in and give it a go the following season.

Over here in Australia the culture of basketball isn't as big as it was when Jordan was playing, so international games are important to showcase other countries against the best. The nba playing preseason games in other countries is a great way to promote the game, Successful international players playing in the nba is also a good way to promote the game but overall outside of the US and maybe Spain the games growth has declined, that's just my personal experience and opinion living in another country. Let's face it if the nba players didn't play international games the whole thing would be a waste of time. It's kinda like having a 100m race without Usain bolt racing.
