Delfino is hurt, so I am guessing they will apply for the disabled player exception to get more salary cap room.

He has about 3 mil owed this year I think.

Also netted them another big.

Don't like losing the 1st round pick, but good to get the salary cap room this year assuming he gets the DPE.

Also the big man we picked up shot 45-55 on free throws last season so that is a good look

I don't like giving up the first rounder too.

Doc continues to strike out as GM.. Jesus. Trade just for the sake of trading for an unknown scrub and Delfino who is out all year after being out all last season too. Then we make it worse by throwing in a 1st rounder LMAO? Delfino even healthy would make this a pretty lateral trade. Dudley slimmed down and had a chance to be at least okay this year. Now left with Barnes and maybe injury prone Bullock at SF!?!?

Woj is totally butchering this trade process.

Dudley was so bad that we needed to give up a first rounder to dump his contract - this is why some of us weren't willing to gamble on him turning it around.

Really for a first rounder? Doc should go back to coaching only give up the GM job.

I like Delfino, but he isn't playing in 14-15, so this trade is weird unless Doc really like Raduljica who would be the 3rd center and 5th big....

Apparently, we're getting back a 2nd-rounder from the Bucks. Our 1st will likely be late 20's, while their 2nd will likely be early 30's... so that's something, I guess.

Delfino won't be out the upcoming season. Read this quote from a few months back:

"The idea is to be able to be kind of ready by July," Delfino said. "And then August and September is going to be pick up more and more to be ready for the preseason to be working out with the rest of the guys."

It doesn't make sense. There has to be something else happening soon that is connected to this move.

So wait... DJ is a FA next summer and Delfino's $3.25mil will come off the books. We've picked up two 7-footers this summer.

Sign and trade for a max player, anyone?

Raduljica battling Hawes.

Raduljica is probably worth roughly a late first round pick on his own, he was a rookie last year and was much better than Bullock for example, although he's old for his experience level.

So otherwise it was Dudley who may or not suck next year or Delfino who may or may not play, but costs less.

It also lets us fill a roster spot on the cheap as we approach the tax apron.

This trade came completely out of the blue no prior rumors or nothing. There are confusing rumors about Carlos though some say he out and apparently as the flying lion pointed out he might be back but I have full confidence that Doc is up to something he's always surprising us. People on here start to bash him and then out of the blue he does something else to make everything else make sense

Not to mention, Delfino is known for being a "3 and D" guy, something we need and doc loves. Even if Dud came back better this year, he still wouldn't bring the defensive abilities we need so much

Seems to be a good trade for both sides.. Bucks only need a backup SF, and Carlos seems to be healthy now according to most articles.

This from Rotoworld about Delfino

Carlos Delfino was traded from the Bucks to the Clippers as part of Tuesday's three-player trade.

Delfino hasn't played since the 2012-13 season due to multiple foot surgeries, but he's tentatively expected to be ready for training camp. He'll give coach Doc Rivers another option at SG and SF if he stays healthy, but may have a hard time earning minutes in a wing rotation that includes J.J. Redick, Jamal Crawford, Matt Barnes and Reggie Bullock

I like CD but what's the point of getting someone who's hurt? Bahmer needs to open up his check book and hire a GM

The guy who Doc stripped that role from and gave to his boy Eastman was doing a pretty good job (Gary Sacks).

If we can't use the DPE, then maybe clearing cap space for next summer? Dudley would still have been on the books, but CD and Radj are non-guaranteed. So that takes $4.4 off the books next season if they want. If Radj works out, can keep him and try to move DJ. Otherwise, you are one step closer to having the space and flexibility to sign DJ w/o crippling the team.

BTW Delfino is a very solid 3+D player who would help a lot if healthy. I just don't like that he's injured and on a 1 year deal. If it was like a 3 year deal and he was healthy? I'd be ecstatic.

Why are so many complaining about the draft pick? Have you seen what we have done the past 3 seasons with it? If Doc saw Dudley would be useful this season , he would have kept....

The guy I feel real bad for is... Ralph. There is no way he is going to be able to pronounce Miroslav Raduljica. He will ask Mike Smith to...

None of you see what this is about. We got a spectacular and very dominant center for nothing basically. Raduljica is a beast who can hit free throws and I so hope we are not getting him with some huge plan in mind to trade him further. Delfino I can say nothing about, but we are very deep at the five now!

Jared Dudley:

"I just want to thank the clippers organization for everything.. It was a privilege to play for them.. I only wish I could of been 100%.. I wish them nothing but luck"

Two things.

  1. This kind of bums me out. Dude was injured/out of shape all year (partially his fault no doubt) and is traded for basically a small cap dump when he very well may of bounced back. If he goes on to be return to quality player in Milwaukee after one down year, I'm gonna be really pissed off.

  2. How times have changed to hear a player say "It was a privilege to play for them (Clippers".

PS... I hear Radu is a nice backup center, but that means nothing considering Hawes will eat up all backup center minutes. Our biggest position of weakness is SF and now it just got a lot thinner. All that's left is injury prone Barnes. Bullock+Delfino are currently injured already!

This is obviously for avoiding tax and such. As per the yahoo article:

The team's payroll, after taking in Delfino and Raduljica's contracts, will now top the $80.1 million mark (a half million higher than before), leaving the team just around $650,000 under that salary apron. This means, no matter what happens to this team's roster in the 2014-15 season, the franchise has just that much money to work up potential trades, emergency signings, and the like. Minimum salaried add-ons, trades that bring back players that exceed that mark it doesn't matter. Verboten.

So why in the hell would the Clippers take on more salary, while giving up a first-round pick (reported by Eric Buenning to come in the 2017 NBA draft) along the way?

For one, the Clippers only had 12 players under contract prior to this trade, and league rules stipulated that the squad needs 13 on its roster. Secondly, Dudley bonuses include a $250,000 payout this season if his team makes the first and second round of the playoffs, and those bonuses (based on a playoff performance Doc Rivers' squad fully intends to follow through on) already count against the salary cap apron.

The Clippers know that they're on the losing end of this deal, but they'll gladly trade that for the ability to pay Blake Griffin, Chris Paul and (to a lesser extent) DeAndre Jordan eight figures this season. And for the ability to round out its roster with Hawes, Farmar and Davis. The team won't receive an injured player exception for Delfino (who will not play much or at all this season) because of its cap status, but the roster spots help, and Raduljica (if last year is any indication) can apparently play in a pinch. Toss that in with a few emergency five-figure midseason 10-day contracts, and you could have a roster situation that works.

Add that to the loss of Dudley's $4.5 million 2015-16 salary (in an option he is surely to pick up) in order to push the Clippers even further under the luxury tax, and you have something that makes sense. Delfino and Raduljica's contracts are not guaranteed in 2015-16, and every little bit helps in the summer of 2015 as the Clippers continue to evolve. It's possible that Los Angeles could have found a better offer with one of the other NBA teams looking to rent out cap space in return for assets, but for now the Clippers have something that at least seems palatable.

I don't think it even a situation where they don't think Dudley can play well, it's just that the team needs to have 13 players and is trying to avoid the stern grip of the hard cap.

Yea, but we have DJ and Hawes, he is being traded for as the 3rd big and injury insurance, and to have 13 players, so you're probably way too optimistic about what potential role he would have on this team.

Question? Was this some type of deadline before facing tax penalties? Clips and OKC both pulled off trades today. Hmmm
