Doc is trying to go after Ray Allen. WHY??????????????? (he was a good player, but as Charles says, "father time is undefeated").

IMO Allen will end up in Cleveland no matter how hard Doc try's

Getting Ray Allen doesn't help our SF depth. Besides shouldn't we be looking for players with length and youth?

With 4 SG's already on the roster, the only way I'd be down with getting Allen is if Doc plans to flip Jamal and some of our newly acquired 'cap space' for a quality SF.

We should or should have been looking for a strong perimeter defender whether he's older or younger doesn't matter.

I think Doc is really trying to flip Jamal for a wing.

Is there a player worth trading Jamal for that is available? Hmmm...

Jamal isn't a guy we just trade for trading sake, so if he's going out I want to be impressed by the returning players(s).

There is no reason to trade Jamal when we are going to need his scoring with Hawes off the bench. Davis/Farmar/and whoever is Sf will need to run the offense and D up. So confused as to what Doc is doing right now.

What I want is a three-team deal where we trade out Crawford and get back Tobias Harris, and start him at SF. I think that would be ideal.

That'd be pretty sick. Tobias doesn't spread the floor at all though... there are better targets out there (i'm sure)

+1 but I kind of doubt it's possible.

Would not be surprised if he's got his eye on Jeff Green.

Jeff Green contract = $9.4 mil plus player option for 2015/16. Don't think that's happening.

Probably the best we could make happen is Wilson Chandler. It's debatable whether we'd be getting the better end of that trade, though.

But Wilson is always an injury risk, right? Can't stay on the court..

won't matter once he's on the team. We'll be in Nets territory by next year but it would be possible to max out DJ and keep everybody.

It would take Jamal + Barnes to make the money work. Not saying I'd be in favor, just wouldn't be surprised.

Ok, sounds like money is not an issue for you from your last 2 responses. Hope FO has different view.

Here's how Chandler and CDR compared last season abet another injury shorted season for Wilson.

At the end of the day we just need a long atheletic sf that can play physical defense to guard Durant and Leonard in the PO'S.

I don't think this is the time to be making silly trades and blowing the team up just for the sake of it.

I'm down for signing someone overseas or possibly d league if they fit the description. Hence why I was huge on aminu.

I'm curious to see what doc and the FO have in mind

I'd love to trade for Wilson Chandler, and if we could Sign Ray Allen, losing Jamal wouldn't be bad at all, really. But I don't think that there is any way Denver does this trade. They are really high on Gary Harris, their rookie, and not to mention that their depth is really the teams only strength. Jamal tends to be a band aid fix to teams with no depth, as his scoring can carry a bench on its own. A ball-stopper isn't what they need.

Also, Jamal + Reggie is a perfect fit for Chandler, salary wise.

If we're trading Jamal we need to go after someone better. Someone like Gerald green or shumpert.

you guys think Minnesota would be willing to trade brewer. I know he can't really shoot but he's not bad. They'd probably do it if we take jj barea or martin

How about Harrison Barnes? I always thought the Iguodala signing meant Barnes was out. I don't know who we would give up for him, but I like his game. He deserves starters minutes.

They definitely would be willing to trade Brewer, but it depends what for. But why would we want Brewer? He is great in transition, but that's about it.

If we trade Jamal for Gerald Green and still start Barnes. That Is Awesome. Sign A PG and A Big Man. PG - Paul - Farmar - Sessions ( etc. ) SG - Redick - Allen -....

Corey Brewer sucks. Phoenix has zero incentive to be trading Gerald Green a SG/SF for Jamal a SG who is older when there's no benefit to their roster or rotations. Green's benefit to us obviously is that he can play SG and SF and maintains a similar scoring punch.

The time to trade for those guys though is when you trade Luis Scola for Miles Plumlee, Gerald Green and a 1st round pick. After Plumlee (rookie contract) and Gerald Green ($3.5M) produce at a high level and are on value contracts is not when you start trying to convince a team to trade them to you.

I like the guy, he brings a lot of hustle. I wouldn't mind picking him up if we still had someone to trade. He's a lot cheaper than Jeff Green or Wilson Chandler.

I'm disappointed that we gave up a first round but when you think that we got a second here's to hoping we have the last pick in the first.

I would love to get Wilson or either Green. Don't see either happening and think we are just trying to make something happen. Still wouldn't mind CDR or Deandre Daniels.

After waiving Carlos Delfino and Miroslav Raduljica, we have 3.5 mil to play with which we can divide between three players which would make for a $1,116,666.67 contract if we divide it evenly amongst the three. I've made a list of of three FA at each position that we can still pick up.

PG

1) Ramon Sessions

2) Bo McCalebb

3) Jordan Crawford

SG

1) Ray Allen

2) E'Twaun Moore

3) Doron Lamb

SF

1) Chris Douglas-Roberts (would LOVE getting him on the team, perfect fit in my mind)

2) Hidayet Turkoglu

3) Dante Cunnungham

PF

1) Elton Brand

2) Andray Blatche (can't see agreeing to a minimum but I threw him in anyway)

3) Kenyon Martin

C

1) Jermaine O'Neal (would be a great fit for the team but more concerned with the affect it will take on the chemistry of the team)

2) Emeka Okafor

3) Greg Monroe (wishful thinking ok!)

My top three choices are

1) Chris Douglas-Roberts

2) Ramon Sessions

3) Elton Brand

We miss out at a second rim protector but looking on the market there are no rim protectors worth taking a risk on, at least from what I'm seeing

It would appear that we have more than $3,500,000 under the hard cap.

Spotrac lists our player cap hits for this season at $75,742,514. That doesn't include the guys we just stretched, and although they list Raduljica correctly at $300k, I believe they've omitted a zero when listing Delfino at $65k... it should be $650k (ie: 20% of $3,250,000) for a total of $950k in "dead money".

That puts us at $76,692,514 total for the 11 guys on the roster plus the two we just stretched.

The luxury tax threshold is $76,829,000 and the hard-cap "apron" is $4,000,000 above that... so, $80,829,000.

Subtract our commitments from the hard-cap figure and you're left with $4,136,486.

So that is what we have to work with... at least according to the best numbers I could find. The $3.5mil number was always merely a lazy estimate by journalists and it was always subject to the addition of the few hundred thousand we were already short of the hard cap.

Besides, we won't be splitting anything "equally" between players, as NBA minimum scale salaries - by their very nature - are defined by how many years in the league a player has under his belt. This year, they can range anywhere from $507,336 for a player who is new to the NBA (for example, a foreign import) to $1,448,490 for a player who's been in the league for 10+ years (let's say, Ray Allen).

You really shouldn't state your numbers as fact when you haven't researched them beyond the tweets of a few journalists. Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_19

http://www.spotrac.com/nba/los-angeles-clippers/cap/

http://basketball.realgm.com/nba/info/minimum_scale

A couple of things surprised me when searching out these numbers...

First... we are not technically - as of today - a "taxpaying team"... although we obviously will be once we get our roster to the minimum 13. It's just a shame that the salary 'snapshot' couldn't be taken today, then we'd have the full MLE again next year!

Second... depending on how we allocate the money remaining under the hard cap, we could still enter the season with 15 players. The stuff I've read about us only being able to afford 3 players is bullshit... just depends on how 'veteran' they are. Half a million for an undrafted D-league small-forward seems like a fair gamble when we have more spots to fill than money to fill them with.

You sir, are very close. 4.45 mil according to Steve Perrin's math. Hmmm..

We are essentially assured to be able to get up to 4 players on veteran contracts no matter how many years they have been in the league. Like "cleepers" said, we have a little over 4 million dollars left underneath the cap. It is true that it LOOKS as though we wouldn't be able to sign 4 veterans if they all have been in the league for 10+ years( adds up to $5,793,960), but not all of that money goes against the cap. Under the CBA a max of $915,000 can be taken away from how much we are under the cap. Therefore, we can sign any combination of 4 veteran's minimum contracts, which would end up resulting in taking away at the very most $3,660,000 of the $4,136,486 we have to spend under the cap.

I don't know, mate. Back when I took math classes, we were always told you have to "show your work"... but maybe that's just an English thing. American education is "special".

As much as I respect Mr. Perrin... he ain't dun shown his work. Him saying "By my math..." doesn't do it for me.

But he does make a good point about the cap hit for minimum contracts. For example, we're paying Baby something like $1.3mil (I'm too tired to look it up right now), but his cap hit is indeed $915k. I took that into account. (edit: I just saw your post @TheFlyinLion and you are correct!)

That's why I was specific when I talked about our "cap hit for players" rather than actual salaries.

Tense, if you can get the owner of that very desirable handle: "ClipperSteve" to show his work, I will gladly take one for the team and admit defeat.

Especially if it gives the Clips another $300k to spend. I'm just generous like that wink

Ah, the salary cap. Judging by the discrepancy in everyone's answers I don't think anyone knowns what is going on lol. And I thought concepts like postmodernism, and structural-functionalism in my anthropology courses were difficult, the cap makes those concepts seem clear.

No reason why Boston wouldn't entertain the idea. It's better to get a return for a (depending on how he plays up to the trade dead line) prime asset you have, rather than let him walk away for nothing in the summer.

Cleepers mate, it never was the intend to say you numbers were wrong, just to show how someone else's (who's well repected) numbers arrived in the same ball park.

No need to admit to defeat, you both "won" and are on the same team...4.1 to 4.45 mil, why quibble about 300K and who's numbers are "righter". I was just trying to show your $/math was way better then what was out there. Hey, that's a hell of a lot better then the 3.5 mil the "others" (including myself) were quoting. Either or, we are in a much better position finically for players services then we were thought to be.,

Reminds me of a scene from Live of Brian, when in the Coliseum (love the venter selling Wolf Nipple chips) the guys on the same "side" were calling others....Splitters!!!, LOL.

No harm no foul.

P.S.

For the teams sake, I hope Steve's numbers are "righter". Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_08

"Judean people's front? F*ck off... we're the people's front of Judea!" ...classic!

Didn't mean to sound like I was having a pop at you (and/or Perrin). Sorry if it came off that way. Just now that I found those salary numbers, I'm very curious to know what the actual figure is.

Raduljica has kind of been killing it at the FIBA World Cup so far, first game he had 13 points in 14 minutes in a big blowout win, second game he had 21/7 in 29 minutes against France; wish he kept him, he has a lot of upside for how cheap he was.
