I love Doc as the coach. So glad they reached a deal to keep him here for an extended time.

As a coach, this is AMAZING news. As president, that's a whole different story.

I hope Ballmer only signed off on this AFTER Doc revealed his "bold, hardcore" plan to acquire a small-forward with more than one functioning foot.

Excellent Very Happy. Rivers didn't get an extension. It a brand new contract with a raise.

This is a hardcore move! Now the Clippers can start to build a winning culture and establish continuity that has helped the Spurs to win their chips.

When you get a good enough coach, continuity has much greater value than continually going after the next best thing. There aren't too many coaches in the league clearly better than Doc and the ones that are don't really hit the market often or ever.

This also gives your team a consistent direction which is good.

I like this move...Doc could be our Gregg Popovich, a clear leader in charge and it establishes stability within the organization--something we lacked under the previous regime. I haven't been in love with a few of his personnel moves, but sometimes you have to try a few things until something eventually works.

I think the way he handled things along during the Clutter and organizational transition alone should net him a contract extension.

He deserves it. The way handled everything during the Sterling fiasco pretty much was fantastic. Everyone saw the true leader he was and we needed at that time. I'd like to see tone down his GM powers but that's another conversation. For now, this is a great move.

I know most don't read newspapers but I am an old fart so I do. Every Saturday there are letters to the editor (LA Times) in the sports section and every week there is some clone-ass Faker fan or fans whining about we Clipper fans, our team , our coach , we have no banners, we have no statues,...just bitch and whine every week. Last weeks tirade was about Balmer. I guess the letter department will flood with news about this one. Funny thing is NEVER has a Clipper fan written a disparaging remark about the Fakers.....although knowing how much the Times is up Kobe's arse they probably won't print a letter from a Clipper fan.

I thank the powers that be,....Mr Balmer....for finally extending arguably the best coach we have had.

5 years/$50 mil? Wow, well-deserved... but wow!! Is he gonna play backup PG too?

That is a lot of money- but Doc has been doing a great job as a coach/leader, and Steve has the moola, so certainly this is good news.

According to fans of other teams doc is overrated as a coach.

He can get paid 20 mil a year for all I care. Just as long as it doesn't count against the cap (P.S. it doesn't)

After ruminating on this for a while, even though he's probably a top-3 coach, I honestly think he's being overpaid.

Not that that's a bad thing... it's not my money, it doesn't count against the team's cap and it screams a message to every player in the NBA that the Clippers' ATM is open for withdrawals.

Now I just hope that we start buying up quality draft picks, either to pay them or to trade for proven players, because the salary cap is the only thing standing in the way of our parade.

I find it hard to believe that Milwaukee would have turned down $3,000,000 as the sweetener for taking Dudley instead of the draft pick. THAT'S how Ballmer's money will win... OUTSIDE of the cap.

As much as I want and expect progress over the next 2 years, that 2016/17 season is key. We'll still have CP3 and Blake (and probably DJ), but when that cap jumps I want us to be perfectly positioned to exploit it, and that requires gathering assets NOW. I'll be pissed if we don't start that season as championship favorites.

Exactly what we need to do and good for doc to get that kind of money.

Glad Steve secured Doc for the next few years. Hopefully we can win a title or two during the Rivers ERA.

I still can't believe how doc is being lambasted as being overrated. Any time someone becomes a clipper I notice their perception as overrated seems to kick up a notch. Jealousy?

I think a lot of people (especially Faker fans) are having a hard time coming to terms with the Clippers being contenders when for decades they were THE team to ridicule. Times they are a changin'. The masses will catch up eventually, and even if they don't, that's ok. I kind of like being a fan of one of the more polarizing teams in the league.

He traded Bledsoe Caron and multiple picks for JJ Redick. That's insane, but congrats Doc!

It wasn't Doc's fault Dudley developed patellar tendinitis soon after we signed him. Most experts gave us an 'A' on the deal for good reason- it was a smart LONG TERM move (at the time of course). Bledsoe missed a large part of last season and is now demanding $17M. Rosters are being filled while Bledsoe and his agent stick to their number. Rediculous. That could be us, and I'm glad it's not.

I don't think he's overrated as a coach although he seems to be a pretty unimaginative gm. My point was that clippers automatically inspire vitriol which I believe is purely the result of jealousy.

As one gets older one loves when people badmouth things that you love because you realize years ago they wish they were you and wanted what you have (or in this case, what your team has) but can't have it,so they try to belittle you and your choices to basically make themselves feel better. Say what they want,Doc is a top 5 coach and we all know it. Yes,jealousy without a doubt, especially if they are Fakers fans. This being number two is just blowing their brains up,they can't handle it.

Clippers fans: welcome to the world of the "haters." For years, Kobe Bryant -- clearly one of the best players in the NBA -- had to endure legions of "haters." Now Doc Rivers -- clearly one of the best coaches in the NBA -- now has his army of haters, too. That is the price of success. BG: you're next!!! LOL.

Total length of contract...yes. Most salary for at least 1 season goes to Phil Jackson @ 12 mil.

Doc is among the best coaches in the NBA. The players LOVE him, he loves Ballmer and Ballmer loves him. Our players are STAYING and more will come to play for Doc. This is ALL GOOD NEWS for us. I LOVE IT!!!!
