We might be getting Clippers talk on the radio. If this happens. FINALLY. As KFWB is moving to all sports in the near future. I'm tired of those bums John Ireland/Max Kellerman over at 710. They acts like Lakers are the only nba team in the nba. Alway hating on the Clippers.

Cross your fingers! Smile

If I have to listen to Max or Ireland 1 more time, I think I will jump off a cliff.... (don't worry, it will be a very short cliff)

I channel surf a plethora of sports talk and it's always Lakers no matter what. Being a Clipper and a Trojan fan is now not easy in this city (of course, never was for the Clips)

Hope they keep the radio station number, 1070, and THE signal strength, that's what matters TO ME!

Repped High Quality Post

I would like to Brian Sieman to get his own Clippers radio talk show. If he's willing I wouldn't mind Ralph Lawler to have a 2 hours show. If he's willing to leave Max. Marcellus Wiley to get his own show. Smile

I would doubt Wiley would leave Max.

They have good chemistry.

However, if the new station brings in Max, he would do a complete 180 on those myopic Laker fans.

ESPN radio gave Mark Willard the boot but kept Mychal Thompson. Although he's a Lakers fan. He has never bad mouth the Clippers except DTS. Maybe can get Mark for KFWB.

I would NOT like to see Arash hosting a Clippers show... I know now that the team has heated up, he is covering a lot more of LAC news. But the dude is flakey... I like to reward loyal reporters, people that know the team, the team history.

I went to a focus group at KFWB and was paid $50 along with 15 other Clipper Fans. KFWB AM 980 will be the Clipper Flagship Radio Station starting September. The station is changing from ALL news to ALL SPORTS 24 hours focusing on LA Sports. It will be called THE BEAST 980. CAN'T WAIT!!!

We probably won't hear any Clipper-centric shows on 980 at least until we got closer to the season.

On a side note, there's a story the L.A. Times business section talking about why KFWB chose to go all-sports after its shift to news-talk had their ratings plummet.

I goofed earlier thinking the station was 1070. My biggest bitch is most of our games are after 7pm and for whatever reason, the radio station powers DOWN and you can't here anything any more....

They power down due to FCC rules, because the signal carries much stronger once the sun sets. To get a stronger signal they'd have to do a LOT. It's not easily accomplished. It's easier to buy a station that already has a higher signal rating than it is to increase an existing station's signal allotment.

Bumping this up, KFWB 980 will be launching a new lineup starting September 22nd, and will be known as "The Beast 980". UCLA great and ex-Clipper Marques Johnson will be co-hosting a morning show (5:30-9am) with Jeannie Zelasko (formerly from the old XTRA 690 in San Diego, Fox Sports, and was the courtroom reporter on Judge Joe Brown); Ralph Lawler is suppose to be a contributor to the morning show. Jim Rome will be on at 9am until noon (as he is currently), Fred Roggin is on from noon to 3pm, George Wrighster/Brett Winterble from 3-7pm (never heard of neither one of these guys), L.A. Sports Today from 7-9pm (it's suppose to be a recap show on the day's sports stories, but it'll bumped a lot of nights for the Clippers or NFL games), and Doug Gottlieb on tape-delay from 9 to 11pm (usually airs live in midday on CBS Sports Radio).

Ralph Lawler just tweeted "Heading to LA from Oregon today. Hate to leave, but looking forward to Clipper season and launch of the Beast 980. Big times ahead." If Ralph is excited about it, then I'm definitely excited about it.

This news is just so damn good. In one offseason we get an awesome new owner and our own Clipper centric radio station? Never in a million years did I think we'd see this day!

It'll be certainly a breath of fresh air, especially given that 570 is virtually all-national (except for UCLA, the Dodgers, and Petros & Money), 710 is Laker jock-riding 24/7, and 830 takes whatever ESPN leftovers 710 doesn't air (plus they have that God-awful John Stamos jock-rider Roger Lodge).

Since AM radio is a sports talk medium, I would like to re-post something I posted on Laker Topbuzz (I will get hell from them) and see what you think:

In 2014, with max contract limits, you cannot simply out-pay for a free agent. It then becomes about the owner, the coach and the rest of the team.

With an anti-social owner (Jim Ballcap), a horrific coach (DaPhony and an unknown quantity in Byron Scott ) and a team of cheap castoffs, who do you think would want to play for the Lakers? If a free agent wants Los Angeles, which is a great city with lots of off-court opportunities, they can now look at the Clippers -- who have a superior owner, a superior coach and a superior owner. DUH!

I predicted this years ago when I was very active on LTB -- Jim Mullet-hair had better not look down his nose at the Clippers. The Divine Right of Lakers is about as dead as the Divine Right of Kings.

And until losing hits Jimbo is the pocket -- he made 100 million with the worst Lakers team in history WITHOUT KOBE -- there is no incentive for Jim The Inheritor to field a winning team. Dr. Buss wanted titles for his ego and was willing to spend for the super-celebrity it afforded him. JIM WANTS MONEY. When you are that rich, you generally get what you want. With that in mind, Jim Buss is getting everything he ever wanted -- MONEY, MONEY, MONEY.

It's the upstarts across the hall who want titles. And, with Billionaire Ballmer as the owner, that is exactly what they will get.

My instincts tell me that Steve Ballmer is the next Dr. Jerry Buss.

Sorry if I speak the truth.

I did and it doesn't come in very strong -- not like 710 or 570. AM is bad enough without extra static in the attic.

That's what I said on an earlier post.I really don't give a damn how hard it is to get your radio station signal boosted, IT HAS TO BE DONE! Mr Ballmer, are YOU listening, (or....

Mr BOLD, why aren't you using internet radio in 2014? I don't even live in California but I have better reception then you do. Figure it out.

980 sucks in the car. Marcellus is barely acceptable but 570's Petrus has the WORST voice for a radio announcer I ever heard. Just the threat of Petrus' voice could get any Gitmo detainee to rat. As my late father would have said about Petrus, "Who does HE know?"!!! I usually listen to Sirius NBA talk.

Now with 980 on the Net, that will be my default station at home.

This year should be fun.

I'm not sure why you keep addressing Steve Ballmer about your signal deficiency... you do realize that he doesn't own the station, right?

With all the ways to stream nowadays, AM is basically an obsolete technology anyway. BMW aren't even including an AM receiver in their new cars. It's really not that hard to stream it on your phone then Bluetooth, USB or even hardwire it into your car's stereo if you want to listen on the move. If you can't do that, you can still catch up on any programs you missed by replaying them later, when you're at your computer.

I'm really not understanding the need for your rant. Maybe you're just cranky after going so long without Clippers basketball. Not long to wait, now... make sure to set your VCR for those games! Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_08

Cleepers is right about about AM radio becoming more obsolete by the day. So much so that many new sports radio stations have launched on FM in recent years, or old-line stations like WFAN in New York City have migrated from AM to FM (or at least have a joint AM-FM simulcast). I don't own a traditional radio (and haven't for years), so I stream via my laptop or pratically always on my smartphone. I've listened to Clipper games on the car radio, and the sound quality online is so much better (unless you're listening via the NBA Game Time app LOL).

CBS put KFWB in a trust because it's hard to find a buyer, and CBS owns too many broadcast outlets locally (2 TV and 5 radio stations). Concevienably, Ballmer could KFWB if he wanted to, although a FM station is probably a better commodity.
