The Clippers are something like 9-2 on the 2nd game of back to backs oddly enough (they are 0-11 on the 1st game I believe). You'd think that the records would be reversed. That said it means that the Clippers should come out strong and blow up LeBron and his team Wink.

One of the key matchups is Kaman vs. Ilgauskas- it'd be big if Chris can even up the stats vs. the 7'5" Cleveland center. Also let's see if Mobley can come back and have a good game after disappearing last night in NY. And hopefully Q Ross doesn't get into early foul trouble trying to slow down LBJ.

Wow- that was embarrassing and painful to watch. We've seen this too many times this season- Brand gets out to a great start, then teams smother him and there goes the offense. On D the Clippers just didn't have an answer for Ilgauskas- he kept getting offensive rebounds over the Clipper big men like their feet were stapled to the ground. Chris Kaman simply didn't do a good enough job on the boards. In fact Brand and Kaman combined had 5 fewer rebounds than Ilgauskas- ouch. Livingston had another nice game, but no one else stepped up to help Brand and Cassell tonight. The way it's going maybe he should start along with Sam in the backcourt.

I still don't understand why Maggette didn't play- I doubt he had the flu- he probably was being punished for venting about Dunleavy to the press. The Clippers sure could've used him tonight. Maybe we'll find out more about this tomorrow.

Just saw some post game comments via the OC Register- apparently Maggette was really sick- here's the scoop:

Clippers forward Elton Brand scored 21 points, extending his 20-plus scoring streak to seven consecutive games. But center Chris Kaman struggled — again. After breaking his five-game stretch of scoring in single digits, with a 14-point effort Tuesday at New York, Kaman made 1 of 6 shots and managed to snag just four rebounds in 28 minutes.

“He’s got to finish inside,” Cassell said, “but we have to do a better job of getting him the ball in position so that he can finish.’’

One day after making stinging remarks about Dunleavy because of reduced playing time, Clippers swingman Corey Maggette was inactive because of flu-like conditions. He remained at the team hotel in the first half, then rode the team bus to the arena and watched the second half in the locker room. The Clippers could have used Maggette’s offensive play to counter the energy brought by the Cavaliers’ second-unit energizer Sasha Pavlovic, who scored 16 points in 25 minutes.

Following the Clippers’ 102-90 loss Tuesday night in New York, in which he played just 17 minutes, Maggette said, among other things, that he felt like a yo-yo and that Dunleavy was not listening to Clippers owner Donald T. Sterling. Because if he were, Maggette said, “I’d be playing.” Dunleavy again declined to expound on any of Maggette’s remarks Wednesday.

“My decision on whom I play is my decision,” Dunleavy said. “If there are questions about why (a player) is not playing, they’re more than welcome to come talk to me about it. My door is always open.

“I talk to players all the time about their playing time. As long as I’m the coach of the team, I’ll make my decisions, and I’m more than happy to talk with the player about them. I’m not going to be in the press explaining them.”

Despite the weak start to the trip, the Clippers have not fallen out of the playoff race. They remain packed closely with Minnesota, Golden State and Denver as they battle over the seventh and eighth playoff positions.

But there have been numerous opportunities squandered. The Clippers’ longest winning streak this season is games, back in November. They had a four-game winning streak snapped last month at home in a lackluster loss to Minnesota. A chance to extend a winning streak to four games was bungled in December, when the Clippers got sloppy in a loss at Orlando.

“Without a doubt, we have to win the games we should win in order to gain momentum,” the Clippers’ Quinton Ross said. “It seems like every time we win two or three in a row, we lose a game and take a step back. We have to find some consistency.”

    THOMAS IFFY

Thomas was examined after the game by the Cavaliers medical staff, and his playing status is day-to-day. Thomas suffered the injury in the third quarter, when Cassell inadvertently fell against Thomas’ leg. Livingston also was involved in the pileup and the Cavaliers were left with a five-on-two fastbreak — and they couldn’t score.

I remember when we predicted that in this road trip we would only lose 2 or 3 games...Kaman deserves to be benched. He's playing at a low level but he always plays the same...It doesn't mind how badly he plays. He doesn't have any type of reaction or desire...PLease DUMBleavy:Bench Kaman and let Maggette play.Thanx

My favorite comment was about using the Force and ignore the Darkside (Dumleavy). If you watch many games, Dumleavy is always on the sidelines yelling and waving his arms and then you look at the players and they are ignoring him. The skinny is that Coach is a good teacher in practice. He is just a lousy game time coach. After reading Dumleavy's response to all the criticism of his coaching by saying "As long as I'm the coach........blah, blah, blah.....I will make all the decisions, I'm reminded why I displike him so much. He reminds me of that other tyranical leader who is stubborn, hard headed, and refuses to listen to anybody, and refuses to change coarse when the plan is not working......George W. If it ain't working....stay the course. Geez! Deliver us from the darkside. May the force be with you.
