I really dont want neither but I guess we have to go after one of them, just hope we dont spend all our money in one place. Call me crazy but I like our team right now, dont underestimate the power of an elite PG. Veterans and youth. I like Kurt Thomas at least for a year but I was shut down quick on that idea. Well here is an article supporting Okefor.

Okafor fills a need and is a great defender. He can play either PF or center, so it is good insurance in case Kaman gets injured.

Sorry guys, Smith is tougher than Okafor. Smith is an all around better player and his stats prove it. Josh is 3 years younger and hasn't peeked yet. Josh is 6' 9" and Okafor is 6' 10". Josh can score from anywhere and Okafor is limited. Josh can pass the ball and dribble to the hoop. Okafor is limited. Josh can possibly be taken at a cheaper price than Okafor. Nuff said.

Okay guys I just merged some Smith/Okafor/Iguodala threads into this one to help tidy things up. Let's keep Josh Smith vs. Emeka Okafor vs. Andre Iguodala threads here. News stories are exempted and could be posted on a new thread. Thanks for the help guys!

okafor is our best bet....everyone is saying the kid cant play offense but he averages 14 ppg career....there is no way you score 14ppg in this league without knowing any offense....he only get three offensive rebounds a game as well so its not like theyre all put backs....like i said on another thread what happens when kaman sits with foul trouble?!!....who would step in and guard the elite PF/C's in the west....smith will NOT be able to hang out west as a full-time PF....dont get me wrong i REALLY REALLY like the kid but he's not the best fit for us....okafor is....and if its true that he apparently doesnt want to play in charlotte then we can organize a S&T with a couple picks and a trade exemption....nobody wants a player on their team that doesnt want to be there....imagine okafor and kaman holding down the post while thornton, mobley/gordon and davis run the break!...it'd be ridiculous....

watch this video of okafor.....can you say "GET OUT!!!!!!!"

what!!!!!! in terms of toughness, okafor edges out smith. smith plays power foward in the offensive end but not as physical in the defensive end

"So the Clippers slide backward, yet again, left to ponder a really outrageous offer to Atlanta's Josh Smith that immediately would make him one of the league's most overpaid players."

How much would be a good amount for him. I know we would have to rise it to nab him away from the hawks (some for Okafor) but what is the expected money he really deserves.

Smith gets his blocks off of weak side D, or even on jumpers. Okafor is a better POST defender. Yeah Smith gets a grip of blocks, but he is really a perimeter/slasher type

IF we're gonna sign smith, i hope we find another low post defender like kurt thomas. Just in case smith cant handle the big bad west forward

I think Dunleavy needs to decide whats more important defense or offense. Okafor is defense and rebounding whereas Smith is more about scoring. Smith is undersized for the west at Pf. Okafor probably could hold his own defensively but will be out matched offensively. You can't have both. So whats more important?

you guys are convincing me with emeka...its really a tough decision. whichever one we get changes how we play so much. with emeka itd be more slow and we would definitely give trouble to the bigs of the west..but with josh hes young and a better all around player..wed be fun and still good. if we could get david lee or a defensive power forward i would go with josh smith...
josh is very hard to pass up. maybe emeka is a bit of a smarter choice and we can all pray deandre becomes the superfreak josh smith is.

Correct but he still pulls out more blocks & steals a game than Okafor. Okafor might be considered to be better on defense but that because he plays Center at times. I still say Josh is a better defender.

Smith does what a PF does...help out from the weak side....just like Brand did with us. Kaman is more than capable of holding down the paint and I don't want to see 2 players trying to play the same position. That's how I see Okafor...a center playing PF. Josh adds a lot more to the position than Okafor...on both ends.

Smith is undersized? He is 6' 9" and Okafor is 6' 10". I don't know their wing span but the difference should be minimal. Brand? Brand is 6' 8" but I know he has a great wing span.

I rather have the younger player that looks more promising on both ends of the court. The guy came off his best season at 22 yrs old. Don't tell me he has peeked yet.

I hear what your saying Cj but you have think in terms of that both of them were playing in the east. Would they be able to put up such numbers in the west at the PF position. Will Smith's size hurt him at that position in the west? Who would you rather have going up against Gasol, Boozer, Stoudamire, Aldridge. Players like that. It's hard to say who will not be a liability on offense and defense.

We really should offer Josh Smith, or maybe okafor, a 5 year, 60 million dollar contract. I heard Hawks dont really want to give him more than 11 million...12 million a year is not overpaying, we pay kaman 10-12 for his next three years. at most i would give him 13 million a year. he cant get more than baron davis or what brand was going to get. we would still have a good amount of cap room and id hope we can get jr smith..then to fill the roster maybe dorrell wright and shaun livingson, paul davis and some other change..

    3. Emeka Okafor, Bobcats: Okafor turned down $13 million per season to hit free agency this summer. He's not the best player on this list, but he's the best young center on the market and one of the few guys in the league who's a lock to average a double-double. It sounds as if the Bobcats are open to a sign-and-trade if the right deal were to come along.

    7. Josh Childress, Hawks: Childress doesn't get nearly the respect or hype of many of his teammates in Atlanta, but he's been a devastatingly effective sixth man. Still, he might be expendable given all of Atlanta's wing talent. He probably can't get more than a midlevel deal on this market, but he'd be a bargain at that price.

It's doubtful we can pry away smith from atlanta unless we offer some ridiculous amount of money that Atlanta won't match. What if we were to do a sign and trade for okafur FOR (thomas/mobley/future first rounder) and then try and pick up childress from atlanta.

Atlanta can't match offers for both smith and childress. he would make a nice sixth man coming off the bench.

    Davis
    gordon
    thornton
    okafor
    kaman

    6th man Childress

    bench
    ross
    livingston
    jordan
    paul davis
    fazekas
    williams
    taylor

    what do you guys think???

Okafor and Childress would be fine by me. We might be able to lure Okafor (might take more than $13M) but the Bobcats won't trade him for either Thomas or Mobley unless the 1st pick is next years, unprotected. We could probably lure Childress with Mike Miller money.
