| The Clippers are wasting no time. Josh Smith will be in talks with the Clipers today, Wednesday, and expect them to make an offer. It is a risk because Atlanta can match. Expect them to front load the deal as much as possible. |

It Was Not About Money: Elton Brand's surprise move to the Philadelphia 76ers was not about money. It was about living out the dream Elton had of joining an elite group of guys and competing for a title. The problem is everyone assumed he meant in LA with the Clippers; likely because he said it, we all assumed he meant it. Elton has agreed to a 5-year, $82 million package and will join the 76ers this week after they complete a trade sending Calvin Booth and Rodney Carney to the Timberwolves. The 76ers will also send the draft pick they acquired from Utah as part of the deal, the 76ers will get a little more cap space and a future second round pick. This deal will be over analyzed for the next week, but the truth of the matter is the East is an easier hill to climb than the West, and Elton wants to be in the Eastern conference. Again, it was not about money, the Clippers upped their offer to $81 million; Brand's camp simply stopped returning calls. There is still a ton of work for the 76ers to do in not only getting Brand inked, but the club also has to get Andre Iguodala's deal done, which is more of a formality now that Brand is in the fold.
What's Next For The Clippers?: The Clippers tried to retain Elton Brand increasing their contract offer from $70 million to $81 million, but could not get Brand back on the phone. Baron Davis will honor his commitment with the Clippers, his agent said his agreement was with the Clippers for a lot of reasons and while Elton Brand leaving was a disappointment, he was ready to be a Clipper. The Warriors put a 5-year, $50 million offer on the table for Corey Maggette, who gave the Clippers the chance to match the deal, and they ultimately passed. The Clippers now become one the teams with the most cap space and will meet today with Atlanta restricted free agent Josh Smith and will also meet with Emeka Okafor, who turned down a $12 million per year offer from the Charlotte Bobcats.

| The LA Times made reference to it in this morning edition as part of an article about Brand leaving. Another source, I forget where, said Josh was already in LA on Tuesday for "business" purposes. Well, what bigger "business" does Josh have right now than inking the biggest deal he can get from the Clippers. If Atlanta matches, he's good, if they don't he good. He will be on one of the biggest stages in the NBA, the Staples Arena of LA. He also gets more focus and endorsements. I apoligize for not seeing the other thread on this. These two threads should be merged. |

Just thought Id put the important stuff in bold. We're meeting with Okafor as well so hopefully we make an attempt on someone today. |

| For the same money, I would rather have Josh than Emeka. Emeka has had injury problems and has underperformed so far in his career. Emeka is still a good prospect. But Josh has off the charts potential. In fact, in the next year or two, Josh could end up being a better player than Elton Brand. He certainly will be a more exciting and entertaining one. We will have a Slam Dunk Contest every night at the Staples Arena. Josh can score, he can run the break, he plays defense, he blocks shots, he has the potential to do it all. He will become a star in Los Angeles. We will get the ink if Baron and Josh are on board. |

| Okafor turned down $12 million???Wow...I insist. Emeka has no moves and offensively is underskilled. To pay him more than those 12mil$ would be overpaying him... |

| Offer the MAX (borrowed your technique there clipps04 - it's does make the point, doesn't it?) deal for Smith and hope that Atlanta reverts to its old ways of doing (or not doing) things and lets him go. I tend to agree with Miquel about Okafor, for that money at least. I don't necessarily agree about the "no moves" stuff, Okafor can play. He's not flashy sure, but is solid at least and would very possibly flourish as a 4 where he'd overmatch most guys for a change after being an undersized center, but 12 mil is a LOT to turn down. I'd rather have Smith, whose upside is otherworldly. |

| And JamFan is right. Sign Smith and suddenly we have the 4th of July on the court every night! Thornton, Smith and Gordon... being led and fed by Baron? Whew. The only thing is, we'd have to send Dunleavy to D'Antoni school. |

| What we need is for Josh to show that he wants to come to LA. Then sign the big deal. And then post a press release asking Atlanta to not match and to let him go. He would be officially announcing to the world and to the fans in Atlanta that he does not want to return. This would make it tough on Atlanta to match an 80Mil deal for a player who does not want to be there. |

You mean like Brand did when Miami offered him a contract and didn't want to go back to the Clips?
If we can get Josh inked then I would be satisfied with our new YOUNG, POTENT and FRESH NEW TEAM.
After a night's sleep I am starting to get over Brand's departure.
Time for a new clipper day...and I am starting to like it. |

| Feel the same way Clipper Joe. The past is the past and we just have to get over it and look at the potential in front of us. We still have a great team lined up and 3 draft prospects that could end up being just what we need. So there's still light at the end of the tunnel....just a bit further away is all. |

| man, it was a rough night. living out here with two laker fans, i did not hear the end of it, since i was having my fun the week leading up to last night. but like i mentioned last night, picking up josh smith will give our team a heck of a lot of athleticism and potential, its just a matter of dumbleavy realizing this and utilizing it |

| My highlight for next season, if we get Josh, and the sixers come to LA to play, we school them by 20. And Josh posterizes Brand several times. |

Elton Brand is a Judas Iscariot, Benedict Arnold loser. I hope his Achilles Tendon ruptures for good this time. We need to go after Josh Smith cause he's a big reason the Hawks pushed the Celtics to the brink and gave Boston's front court all kinds of trouble. Here is my fantasy line-up with reserves:
Point Guard: Baron Davis and Shaun Livingston (anyone but Dickau and Smush Parker)
Shooting Guard: Cuttino Mobley and Eric Gordon
Small Forward: Al Thornton and Tim Thomas
Power Forward: Josh Smith and Josh Powell
Center: Chris Kaman and De'Andre Jordan
What do you guys think?

The downside: no reliable scorer off the bench. I don't know how, but acquire one more bench guy and it looks pretty good. |

No we would send him to baron school. Baron has been doing run and gun his whole life from high school on. Let Baron run the offense like nash did in phoenix. |

| The only downside to smith is the amount of money we have to throw at him to scare atlanta. It would have to be big. They will not be able to afford both him and childress. We could trade off tt and get less in return and have more money to sign JR and we would still have to get rid of mobley at some point. |

| Josh Smith really matured and proved he was worth the hype last year. He really came on | |
