Why did you choose to be a Clippers fans rather than a Lakers fans, or vice versa?

Is it because you root for the underdog, or are you a Lakers fan as well?

None of this make sense to me. There is no sport team to my knowledge that is located in the same city and share the same stadium, arena, etc... except the LA Clippers and Lakers. The most logical reason I can see is that you guys are both a Clippers and Lakers fan, but are gear more the Clippers than Lakers, where I am the opposite.

    Go Lakers!!! And Clippers!!!

    Wink

I am a clipper fan because i grew up watching them. The sports arena is by where my dad went to college so he would watch games there. And then later in life i followed. I guess i dont like the lakers because fans can be jerks. Everyone clipper fan that i have met still watches and goes to games. And lets face it we stunk the joint up for while. I am a part of a group of very loyal fans who are waiting for the big day when we win something.

I was at college at the same time as one of the Clippers top draft picks in the mid-80s. After reading about his 2 left (right?) shoe debacle, I continued to follow the Clippers from afar. When I moved to LA 10 years ago, it was easier to get tix to Clippers games than for the other team. One time was all it took and I was hooked.

Besides, I've never, ever liked the Lakers.

I grew up watching Magic and Kareem and listening to Chick Hearn because my family roots for the Lakers. All my friends were Laker fans and to this day I hold nothing but respect for Magic. I admit I was never that much into the game of basketball until the begging of this decade. I stopped being a Laker fan because there were simply too many obnoxious people who sported the gear after Shaq and Kobe signed. I started watching Clipper games because of their underdog appeal. I have to admit, listening to Ralph and Mike went a long way towards converting me into Clipper fanhood.

The Clipper fans are awesome. I think it's because no casual fan could stand by the Clippers through all the crap that happens, so Clipper fans tend to be real basketball fans. Fans of the game.

I know Laker fans that know what they are talking about and aren't obnoxious pricks. But every team has it's share of good fans and ugly fans, and the Clippers have a better ratio (but also a smaller crowd, and that's just fine).

Your basically saying that we can't possibly root for the Lakers alone because they're so good an we're so bad. That's the obnoxious arrogance right there. That's fine too. To quote the film Hancock, "Being an asshole is not a crime, but it is counter-productive." So rather than changing your mind one way or the other, I'll leave you with this thought: Brand destroyed our hope and dreams in cold blood; I still respect him more than Kobe.

I became a Clippers fan after I found out that I could get a buy-one get-one free deal for season tickets in the 200's section. For the Lakers, the best I could do is the 300's which are pretty much nose bleed.

But the reality is, I kindof like the Clippers because they are in a constant state of re-building. In a way, it's a good change of pace from the Lakers who usually have a solid foundation and the same players every year from Magic/Kareem/Worthy to Kobe/Fisher/Shaq. With the Clippers, there is always a new star that comes around and gives the fans hope. This year it is the Baron Davis, Eric Gordon, and hopefully DeAndre Jordon combo. I mean, I know Elton is about as solid as it gets at the PF position, but it's the 4th quarter guy that wins games and Baron brings that. If we can sign Okafor and his D, I think we can still compete with a more open court style offense more suited for Boom Dizzle. And even if we don't make the playoffs, it will be exciting to go to the games and see Gordon and Jordan throw down monster dunks in the open court.

The funny thing is that my favorite Lakers team was the one that included Nick Van Smack, Eddie Jones, Vlade, Club Ced Ceballos, and Elden Campbell. They built that team from ground up and they were just starting to gel before Shaq and Kobe took over. It's sometimes nice to see a team grow organically rather than manufactured by money.

How many messages do I have to post to get out of D-League status anyway?

Thank You, that is a very good reason to be a Clippers fans. I have a lot of respect for Clippers fans and now even more so thanks to your respond. I am a Lakers fan, and I'm not obnoxious but I can be very violent toward other team, but I know what you mean about Lakers fan, they piss me off sometime. You guys are very loyal to your team, and that is amazing!

    Keep your hope alive!!!

I chose the Clippers because I love things that are forgotten. I love the stuff that nobody else likes. There's a saying: "People like to root for the underdogs, but rarely follow them". I chose to follow the underdog. The biggest underdog in major sports.

Also, the NFL's Jets and Giants share the same stadium.

I grew up watching the Lakers playing for championships for many years. When I was in High School a cousin invited me to a Clippers game and it grew from there. It was always fun. We were able to get autographs before the game from the players as they walked into the sports arena. As time has passed I have been able to see what a bunch of jerks Laker fans can be. Now I can't stand Kobe and many Laker fans. Most of my family, friends, and co-workers are Laker fans but I don't give a crap. I wear my Clipper gear proudly whereever and whenever freakin feel like it.

I have had to take down my auto pics of Cassell and Brand once they ditched us but thats part of the business I guess.

Exactly. But one day we will be at the top of the league...and this day we could rest in peace. Surprised
