It just occurred to me that Elgin Baylor's name has not shown up in any of these rumors or free agent moves. Is he still the GM for the Clippers? I know he pretty much sucked as a GM, but I kindof miss his amazing blunders running this team. As far as Dunleavy is concerned, it appears as if he's being groomed for the GM job and he seems to do very well in that roll. He seems to have a good aggressive attitude when going after players...something that the Clippers really never had.
I would say, once Elgin decides to give up the post, they should immediately move Dunleavy to that position and hire someone that actually knows X's and O's on the basketball court. There's a guy in the adjacent locker room that will be a great coach someday named Kurt Rambis that I think the Clippers should go after. He's got Mike Scioscia written all over him. I never thought I'd see the day where the Angels weren't the second rate team in SoCal, but they do get respect now and the Clippers need to use them as a road map. |

| I think Elgin Baylor at this point is just a figure head, dunleavy is doing all the work and assembling the team the way he wants it to be. I agree though, once Elgin leaves, Dunleavy should take his position full time and leave the coaching to someone else. |

He "sucked" because he's actually been working to ensure the Clippers never take over the Lakers as LA's dominant team. |

I like to call it "Operation 43 home games". So that the Lakers could assure that they get an edge every year, they convinced the league to move the Clippers from San Diego to LA and secretly placed Elgin Baylor to make sure they don't get out of the cellar. This way they will have 43 home games to the Boston Celtics 41. Sometimes home court advantage in the finals comes down to a few games. To make things easier, they even moved the Clippers into the Staples Center so the Lakers don't even need to change locker rooms. I went to both Clippers home games against the Lakers last year and it was pretty sad. I have been a Lakers fan my whole life, but I kindof felt bad that the entire stadium was booing the Clippers. |
