Yea i totally see how sometimes Dunleavy makes shitty decisions that seem to be based on ego. The thing is though, Dunleavy cares about winning and this team... we have never had a coach who did that. Alvin Gentry never got confrontational with the owner to sign good players or tell him to step up like Dunleavy has. If we still had Gentry.. we would have never re signed Brand or Maggette guys.

Funny thing about this article maggette called the clipper FO personally to see if they would match the offer from golden state. Thats a huy who detests his coach. This stupid articles have to stop. I think now we will see how dunleavy does. He has control of the off season and will have to adjust his coaching style. Well see but i doubt brand left because of dunleavy considering he stuck up for him in the middle of the year.

    KRIKORIAN: Dunleavy Clippers' weakest link
    Doug Krikorian, Staff Writer
Article Last Updated: 07/12/2008 12:24:12 AM PDT

OK, Elton Brand, a top power forward, is gone from the Clippers after the eternally struggling team that won 23 games last season had signed Baron Davis, sort of a ham-and-cheese sandwich version of Kobe Bryant.

So is the prolific scoring forward, Corey Maggette.

    Why?

Well, Brand says his feelings were bruised that Donald T. Sterling refused to take his phone call, an excuse that borders on the comically absurd.

It's also known that Brand wasn't enamored with playing for the Clippers' notoriously micromanaging coach, Mike Dunleavy.

    Maggette also detested Dunleavy.

Is that why Brand called Dunleavy and said he would be happy with $75 million to stay? If I was not happy with my coach and had bigger offers wouldn't it be prudent to leave for the bigger cash? He obviously left but Brand came to Dunleavy first with an offer.

Maggette? Maggette came back with the offer sheet to see if they would match it. Is that how much he detested Dunleavy?

    Quote:
So why are Clipper devotees seething these hours at Sterling, or at his chief lieutenant, the very adorable Andy Roeser?

Who is seething? Most Clipper devotees blame Falk & Brand for this outcome.

    Quote:
If there is anyone to blame for the departures of Maggette and Brand, it's Dunleavy, whom I've always considered to be a scandalously overrated coach, fired by the Milwaukee Bucks and Portland Trail Blazers before being recycled by the Clippers.

Of course, the Clippers would have liked to toss Dunleavy into the dustbin last season - Sterling even stopped talking to him - but they are, alas, stuck with him because of that stupidly impulsive four-year, $22million contract extension they gave him in December 2006

Dunleavy is to blame? Where does this buffoon get his facts? Maggette said that they were working on keeping alll three players till Brand gave us the shaft. After he was gone there was no need to keep Maggette.

The clippers wanted to oust Dunleavy? Is that why he has Carte Blanche with the remaining cap space?

I was going to contest every paragraph but you get the idea...the guy is full of crap!
I guess this fool got his journalistic credentials with his value pack @ McDonalds.

Yeah, I don't think Dunleavy's to blame for anything, Brand and Falk had alterior motives. Plus with Maggette, he said in his exit interviews that he wanted to stay but that the Clips didn't try to match the offer, he didn't hate Dunleavy.

Things could be way worse. Dunleavy is great because he preaches defense over offense, and only those teams have a chance to succeed. His only flaw is that he doesn't foul at the end when he's protecting a 3-point lead

Exactly guys- Doug Krikorian didn't know what he was talking about- it's obvious that he didn't gather all the facts before writing this. That plus he sounds like he has a chip on the shoulder against Dunleavy or something.

Completely agree. Sometimes he takes wrong decisions as everybody but he seems to me a person who loves his job and loves to win so I'm confortable with this kind of person.

Sometimes I think he does the Elgin Baylor's homework, too. I mean Dunleavy is always trying to arrange the meetings with free agents and speaks as if he was the GM.

Dunleavy may not be the best coach or even the best person to make personnel decisions, but there's one thing that is the best at. He's the best at giving his everything to the Clippers. He tries his hardest to be the best coach and build this team the best it can be built. One thing that is also for sure is he is willing to stand up for the Clippers when no one else is. He defends this team with his heart and will do whatever it takes to not only make it great, but give it the reputation of being a premier franchise. At one of the worst times in Clippers history, we should be fortunate to have a guy like Dunleavy to give this team a voice and identity.
