How we just sign jamison and sign Joel anthony (recently waived by heat)... we get an offensive player and a defensive player

I apologize for the misinformation I miss read an article ..they didn't waive him...but they did mention a possibility of the heat moving Joel since they just signed Oden, Bird man, and Vernardo under contract...

I don't think we'd be in the market to absorb his unworthy contract, but if for some reason they can't get anyone else to bite and stretch waive his contract. Then maybe.

Knicks signed Jeremy Tyler last night. Not exactly unprecedented (probably the most likely signing after the invite), but I think this pushes them lower on the hunt for Ivan Johnson. They could still sign Johnson of course, but even by playing KMart at C again and giving Tyler scarce minutes, Johnson would be the third PF behind Bargnani and Stoudemire (yeah some injury issues but still). If we even dangled the minimum (which is about half a million less than Jamison's), we'd be in the front running for him. Wishing on a star.

EDIT: Wishing on a role player*.

Read somewhere that Lou Amundson was practicing at the clips facility. I know that doesn't mean much, but I think that's how we picked up Barnes last season. Fantastic big man defender and a great offensive rebounder, but his offense and touch at the charity stripe leave a lot to be desired. I'd still love him on our second unit though. Between Crawford, collison, and Barnes (might be tempted to start him so Dudley can help cover up for some of Lou's offensive ineptitude on the second team), we have plenty of firepower to hold down the bench. Lou would give us that scrappy defensive big that's missing from our team, even if DJ turns into a DPOY candidate.

Z-Bo punching Amundson was possibly my favorite memory of him as a clipper. That, and the game-sealing shot against the Celtics.

But yeah, I dislike Amundson and he's been awful for a while now.

I would openly take Lou Amundson in a reserve role with open arms. With the players we've been looking at instead, he's probably one of the better options left and one of the leftover bigs that has garnered interest from quite a few teams. And on the other side, Ivan Johnson is barely discussed by the media. No legitimate Clipper interest in Ivan Johnson, but I read once that there are a few teams that were considering him as one of the options but it didn't say the teams. Considering our front court scarcity...leave us to speculate.

EDIT: Mo went to Portland instead of Memphis or Miami. Not to overlook the improved Blazers this season, but they're definitely not as much threat to us as Memphis w/ shooting would be. Glad to see it Smile

Oh and Bleacher Report did an article of the players under the greatest pressure to prove their contracts and JJ Redick makes the article picture. Think we already knew the salary seemed a little high, but he was put in the likes of Josh Smith and Jose Calderon, who I think are grossly overpaid. Probably not to be looked into too much but here's the link anyways.

I'm just happy Mo didn't go to Memphis, they need solid shooters badly. I felt the same way about Dorell Wright. I thank Portland for taking both those guys out of the market.

I kinda miss Mo. Played well when he was with us. I wish him well.

On other free agency news, Tolliver narrowed his options to either the Bulls, Bobcats, or the Jazz. Looking at Bulls blogs, no one is happy about the consideration and think it'd be a terrible addition. And Chris Duhon is getting interest from teams now? That's a good indication that we've waited far too long to add another player...

id rather take my chances in an undrafted guy than duhon.

i like amundson as a hustle big man with mullens as a scorer. If we cant get Ivan, of course.

The third choice would be Davies ,if we cant get any of them.

and I dont like wayns. The summer league performance didnt impress me at all. With the firepower of the 2nd unit, not sure how does a shoot first pg fits here.

Another guy who outsmarted himself. He doesn't make a stink about starting, he probably gets resigned by Utah for a lot more money. And who knows, maybe Utah wouldn't have taken the GS salary dump and Iggy is in Dallas instead. One domino can affect the whole off season for a team.

He made 8mil last year, he probably could have gotten at least the midlevel in Utah if he would have embraced Trey Burke. Probably left 3mil per year on the table. Plus now he's backing up the ROY, guaranteed bench role. Had to have been a lot more PT in Utah. Some of these guys are not getting it, there just is not nearly as much money available in the new CBA for 2nd and 3rd tier guys.

Yup, Mo won't be playing much with Lillard, Wes Mathews, and CJ there.

Agree completely. A shame that players like Mo don't embrace that 6th man role because he has all the skill sets to be successful in that role. The big thing for us is that he went to Portland rather than a true contending/high tier team.

Lillard averaged more minutes at PG than anybody else in the league his rookie season. The idea may be to provide some relief? But he showed he can more than handle the minute load.

Maybe Lillard "only" averages 36 minutes and a healthy Wesley Matthews "only" averages 33 minutes a game. That still only leaves Mo with a max of 12.0 PG minutes (though they did also get Earl Watson) and a cut of the 15.0 minutes at SG with CJ and Allen Crabbe? I really don't get his decision. Guess he's betting on the spotty health of Matthews and Batum to open things up for him in the rotations? Maybe he likes the rainy weather? TheDude is right. He definitely outsmarted himself with this one...

Why haven't we signed Tyrus Thomas yet? I think he would be the perfect addition.

Hmmm...6'10. A veteran. Can rebound. Can even block shots. Waived via amnesty.

Yeah, why haven't we heard his name?

I asked one of the writers on Hoopsworld who the Clippers should get quite a while back in a Q and A session and he suggested T.Thomas.

So you'd want to pass on a back up big who can get under zbo's skin? He's awful on offense, but the man can still defend and grab boards, not to mention piss people off with his energy.

I guess maybe they will push Lillard down to about 34 mins, but if they are trying to get CJ minutes, doesn't make sense as to where more minutes come for Mo. That's still only 14 MPG.

Problem with 6th man guys like him is that he's so small, so he's best used with a big PG as your starter.

They also have Dorell Wright at SF backup, so it's not like they can go small and have minutes there. Really interesting. Watson is probably a practice player for them, he sucks a lot now anyways.

Most bigs are waiting that some team would pay them more than a veteran minimum, so they're not in a hurry do sign a veteran minimum deal.

So its like that is it? Well once they come to terms with getting the minimum the Clippers is a decent prospect. A potential contender in a big market, glamorous city and good weather.

I don't really get it completely from some of these players perspectives. If I was a young big or an agent for one, I would take a flyer with a contending team like ours to build a rep. Ivan Johnson, Blair (I know he signed elsewhere), Tyrus, Daye could (have) really benefit(ed) financially from having one solid year with us. Any one of those guys would play significant minutes on this team.

...but did/do the Clippers want all those guys? I'm not sure Daye would get significant minutes either, or Thomas, depends on what you get from Thomas.

Hoops hype article said rollover and clippers had serious contract discussions I'm not sure why he chose the bobcats but I guess clippers just trying to outscore every team surrounding themselves with everyone that can shoot

The bigs I like the most from the lists are Ivan Johnson and Louis Amundson. These guys bring toughness, energy, defense, and rebounding.Johnson is the better offensive player and Amundson is the better defender.Another guy I wouldn't mind having i is Kurt Thomas.Wouldn't want him as a main rotation guy but more in a role like Grant Hill and Willie played last year.He is old but is still a solid defender and I think would be a good mentor for DJ and Blake.

Milicic is done and won't happen. He was a Celtic last season and bombed, not only is no team looking at him, Doc is ESPECIALLY not looking at him.

Then there's Chris "No Defense" Wilcox. Drafted by the Clippers, played under Doc, and another candidate for complete elimination from speculation.

EDIT: AND Amar'e Stoudemire was the next pick taken in that 2002 draft.
