Looked better than SJax I will give him that. That being said no more wings or PGs. Where are the big men?

Hmm he is actually a PF not a wing. Might be worth picking up. Better than Mullens and maybe Hollins. Man are we desperate. Sad

I think I see why we re-signed Wayns. Doc is trying to experiment to see who's best to back up DC. First Morris saw time against Orlando. Then it was Wayns last night against Boston. I wouldn't be surprised if Morris was back on the court Friday. I think Doc wants to figure out who looks better.

"Darius Morris is close to Olympiacos according to Djordje Matic. Morris signed a ten day deal with Clippers and may join the Euroleague champions if Los Angeles won't extend his deal." If he has already talked to the Euroleague do you think that he knows that he will be released?

@Voyeur I think he's doing the same thing. Wayns has the upper hand already having plenty of time to know everyone's tendencies and the plays. He also knows what Doc expects out of him, while Morris is fresh off the street and has only this short time to figure it out.

There is also the part where it is very likely that the Clips want to leave a spot open as well sign Bynum. They can just keep using up 10 day contracts unless someone really impresses.

We just got J.J. back and are soon to get Bullock back. Why do we need more SG's?

I know I guess I just get excited for 10 day contracts! Haha I'm very curious though about what's going on in doc's mind right nOw. He has to be trying to find somewhere for Byron and Ryan to go. He clearly doesn't like the play of Mullens.... we were up by 30 at one point against Orlando and he STILL didn't go in until it was garbage time smh

Shouldn't we be signing someone right now, since we have a 4 day break to learn our plays?

This would be the perfect time.

If the Suns begin sliding without Bledsoe, there's a chance Okafor gets bought out.

Why not try out some old clippers? Craig Smith or Ike Diogu were great b/u bigs for us once upon a time. Could both e had for the min, & I think they'd both play well next to Hollins. If not, Reggie Evans for a 2nd and the TPE (Mullens if they'll take him). I'd give odom a chance as well.

I think it's time to cut Wayns and Morris and sign some D-League bigs to some 10 day contracts.Pairing Willie and Crawford off the bench is a better back up back court than Morris or Maalik.Crawford is more comfortable with the ball in his hands anyways and with Redick and Bullock returning we are good at the wing. What we need are back up bigs imo.Jamison has been awful recently. You can live with his horrible defense if he is making shots, but he isn't.Mullens hasn't been any better,he chucks up some horrible shots and Doc doesn't seem to have any confidence in....

^ I think we'll need at least one of those guys, Wayns or Morris. In case something should happen to DC (heaven forbid). Gotta have one available. I think Doc likes Morris' size and defense. But Wayns seems to be better offensively. I'd lean toward Wayns myself.

D-league is different than NBA it doesn't mean they are good in D-league they can bring it to NBA. I did not see varnado and Dedmon better than an experience bench NBA player. They look good there because they are playing a D-league player.

Andrew818

I know that. That's why I only listed these 2.There are a couple of D-League players putting up decent numbers but out of all of them I think these guys are two of the best prospects in the D-League in terms of bigs. Both are limited offensively but are good defenders. It may or may not translate to the NBA but if you look at our current bigs, bringing in younger talent who might be able to help can't hurt.Every once in a while you find a D-League player who can contribute. For example Jeremy Lin,Gerald Green, and Danny Green come to mind.Sure it's rare but I don't see what harm a 10 day contract or two can do.

When can guys from China be signed? Someone like Ivan Johnson or Delonte West might be useful.

Depends on their contract, most have to wait until their respective teams season is over. Others have early out clauses for the NBA. I'm pretty sure it ends sometime in March, so there isn't a lot of time, but sometimes teams can get out if their team is eliminated from the playoffs.

Looking at Ivan and Shavlick's stats over in the Chinese league I ran into the rhino's stats, and have to say not bad. It doesn't look like he's played this season, but last season he was averaging over 10 boards over there.

Shavlick seems to be hurt or something, because he hasn't played since November. Ivan and a Chris Johnson seem to be doing well overseas. Haddadi is doing well to in the Chinese league or at least it seems like.

Hedo could be signed today. I'm warming up to the idea because I know what Doc/Gentry are doing. They have said they love Griffin at center for his quickness. Running Griffin/Hedo together for stretches at 4/5 will be awesomeif Hedo has anything left. Both are extremely versatile and gifted passers. I'm down to try this if Hedo mostly plays 4 and not 3.

I'm warming up to the idea also. Two 6'10 guys who can pass the ball exceptionally well playing side by side can create very good ball movement.

A huge part of Orlando's offense when they had Dwight was ball movement and kicking it out to shooters.

Agree Hedo will be better as stretch 4.

Do we have a time machine to get the Turkoglu from several years ago to play for us? Because the one that played last year and at Eurobasket this summer is not an NBA caliber player. Dude shot .042% on threes last year, that is worse than Jackson's .071 that got him quickly cut this year.

You know the choices are as follows, right?

  1. Broken down veterans

  2. D-Leaguers, most of whom will be almost as bad as the broken down vets.

  3. Making a trade.

The trade deadline isn't until February 13th, so I'm not panicking yet.

Hmmm, I'd think former Laker Shawne Williams could have fit the bill while also defending.

He's not a great or even good shooter career wise. His 40.1% for 64 games in New York seems like an anomaly now, but he's mediocre with a career 33.3%. He's also a decent defender and can rebound defensively and block a few shots here and there.

CP3Heliflopter

I rather have Shawne Williams. Not sure what Hedo can do at this point at least we know Shawne is good at one side of the ball.

We need bigs who can actually score, Shawne Williams is not that person. We don't need a PF version of Hollins.

Hedo isn't that good on offense either, but he's good enough for Jamal to pass it to him every once in a while. Jamal barely passes to Blake and he's definitely not going to pass it to Williams.

Well that would imply that Hollins can shoot from range and actually defend well though Wink. I'm not sure we necessarily need bigs who can score, we need bigs who can do something on offense, sure, but Williams can at least play pick and pop and spot up and hit shots (not as well as one would like), but more importantly, he can also defend. The bigs off the bench still suck on defense.

I'm not so down on Hollins as the rest of us, I think we knew what we were getting with him. I'm more disappointed in Jamison and just how bad Mullens is. I wasn't the biggest supporter of Mullens, but I tried to be optimistic especially after I read the article about him becoming a father. I think the mistake was going after both Mullens and Hollins. It is one thing to have one guy that you know sucks and hopes surprises you, we have two and they play the same positions. Our other option in Jamison isn't really that great either and he can't play center.

Agent0

I agree, and I also don't mind Hollins, but as a third big. I'm not big on him as a 2nd big.

...back to the statement, yes, what most of us didn't like was going after 3 backup bigs, no which were known for defensive ability. At least mix and match with the bigs if they are all lower level players.

Hollins is the closest to being good on defense, but he fouls too much, gets off his feet too much and can't defensive rebound that well.

Yeah that could be. I really don't like his game though - terminates his dribble all the time and gets caught in the air.

According to Dan Woike on Twitter: Doc said Clippers anticipate signing Hedo Turkoglu - likely will happen Thursday or Friday. (1-15-14)

According to the LA Times "The Clippers also still are considering signing former Lakers shooting guard Sasha Vujacic, according to NBA executives who were not authorized to speak publicly about the situation. (1-15-14)

Doc has said that he is also looking at Lamar Odom.

We are going to sign Darius Morris to another 10 day contract, sign Hedo Turkoglu to the end of the season and we are considering signing Sasha Vujacic and looking at Lamar Odom. If we waive Maalik Wayns, I still come up with 17 players on the team if we do this. Confused

So my question is are we getting in a position to make trades that we do not know about? Confused

Sasha Vujacic, a shooting guard. Don't we have 3 of those already...........either we are going to make a trade of it is a baseless rumour. 4 shooting gaurds doesn't make any sense, unless Doc really wants to play A LOT of small ball Wink

Well if that's the plan it makes a bit more sense cos I and many of us have been waiting for a decent back up big and with that plan Hedo kind of is. Of course kind of are the operative words so we might need another big for when we play bigger teams.

If we will sign Vujacic then why we will bring back Morris he is not even contributing in his last 10 days with us.Well IMO Vujacic will fit in our system because he runs a lot, good defense, hit 3 and good ball handling.

Just wanted to put this on here, Ivan Johnson doing great in China. Atlanta is already trying to bring him back. I think we can get him if the front office convinces his agent and him what a deep playoff run could do for his stock.
