There is also this, but his range is not why I like the guy. http://deadspin.com/ivan-johnson-is-shooting-threes-and-doing-the-big- balls-1463226821

There are a lot of fringe PFs and centers playing in China that might be ok. Ivan Johnson obviously, but also Chris Johnson, Shelden Williams, James Singleton, Hakim Warrick, Hamed Haddadi, Shavlik Randolph, Johan Petro, Peter Ramos and few other guys that I'm not as familiar with that are putting just as good or better numbers than those guys. Pretty much every team in China has big man that would usually be fighting for roster spot in the NBA but decided to take the money in China instead.

Would love if we signed Ivan Johnson, but don't know if he would want the min.I think other teams might be able to offer him more money.

So a lot of EX NBA player are already playing in china, I won't be surprise if 15 years from now, half of NBA player are made in China.

Shavlick is also interesting to me, since he's played with Doc and probably is familiar with his system.

I want Ivan, because he is a hard nosed player. I think that is not found as often as you'd think in basketball. In football, I think it is a common theme; but not in basketball. It is something we have missed since Reggie and Kmart left, and Elton before that. We get it to an extent from CP and Barnes, but bigs are the ones that could use more than anyone else on the court.

He's an energy guy too, that's why I'm high on this guy. He's not the rebounder that Reggie is, but I don't think there is anyone out there that can rebound like him except maybe ZBo when focused on it. He is like a hybrid between Kmart and Reggie to me, and is a bit more of an offensive threat than either.

Ivan Johnson would be my first choice from the group too, mostly because he's had the most recent success in the NBA. Shelden Williams would probably my second choice, he's also tough, played for Doc on of one the teams that made the finals, and he's probably been the best player in China this year. He was a big disappointment because he was drafted so high, but as scrappy bench player he had an ok NBA career.

I'm also intrigued by this guy named Charles Gaines, I know very little about him, he's never played in the NBA or D-League as far as I can tell, but he's right there with Johnson and Williams with the numbers he's putting up.

Does anyone know where Craig Smith is playing right now? He played in China's lower tier NBL earlier this year but their season ended a long time ago.

No, I saw the Rhinos stats from last season. Haven't found anything more current on him. I thought Ike Diougu was going to make a resurgence with us too, but haven't heard anything on his front. There was a few teams flirting with Ike, but that's it.

I do get a little nervous that Doc has a little bit of infatuation with players that were problems for his teams in the past. I know this is my main concern with this Hedo signing. Is it that he looked good or that Doc was playing back the Orlando playoff videos in his head during the workout.

Ivan johnson is by far the best pick out of the bench. Haddadi coming in second.

I say no to the rhino and Ike.

I don't hate Johnson by any means, but we're acting like he's going to save the season or something. He had pretty mediocre stats while he was in the NBA, "toughness" aside, and he's too short IMO to be an effective power forward.

I say no to Ivan Johnson. If we just stay patient and wait until nearer to the trade deadline, we'll be rewarded with an actual NBA-caliber third big instead of pining for scraps in China.

His stats are weak compared to who? Certainly not Byron Mullens, Ryan Hollins or the crippled ghosts of Turkoglu and Bynum. If a guy can play height isn't all important and he's not even that small 6'8, the same size as Reggie Evans, it's not like he's Charles Barkley size.

If you really want a taller guy though Chris Johnson and Haddadi are there too. Andrew Bynum has lost enough speed he's pretty much the same player as Haddadi but with a bad attitude.

The guys playing in China won't even really be available after the trade deadline, they more last minute options. A lot of guys these are NBA caliber players, some people just prioritize getting paid, rather than caring about where it comes from; a lot of guys playing Europe could step right and be fine bottom of the bench guys too. They are fringe players, but so is everyone who is freely available at this point.

Haddadi is still available?!? We should jump all over that. I wonder if the CBA would like Mullens..

Haddadi is like a slightly rich man's Hollins.

Not sure he would like to come here though....

Honestly those were some downright disgusting, disrespectful and embarrassing comments made by our commentators.

Our backup bigs would make Ivan Johnson look like Charles Barkley. Lets not act like our backup bigs aren't 3rd string rotation scrubs at best.

Ivan Johnson is a very solid defender and good on the glass. Also a decent free throw shooter. He isn't a savior or THAT great by any means but he is still WAY better than the poor excuse for bigs we have sitting on the bench.

Ivan Johnson would be a nice pickup. He's undersized, but he is strong, and as a backup he can play both positions for LAC in limited minutes. He has a career average of about 15MPG, which is all the team will likely need him for.

6.6 pts and 3.9 rebs is very good for 15 minutes.

Mullens isn't going to get any takers until next year when his contract is expiring.

Darko comeback?

I don't think Doc would give Darko another shot. We could make the argument that with Byron, he might realize that he has seen worse now.

As far as Ivan or any other back up big available being the savior of the team, is something that is being taken out of context. I think we all can agree that Blake and DJ are living up to expectations. Again I think we can all agree that our back up bigs, are the largest disappointment of the season this far. Blake and DJ need someone to spell them, and what we have is not doing it. If we face a team that is playing big we need someone to take pressure off our bigs. Ivan, Shavlick, and possibly Bynum could fill in for a few minutes a lot better than what we have now. It is not about being the savior, but the right puzzle piece to finish the masterpiece.

Oh, the current backup bigs are scrubs. You won't see me disagreeing with you there.

Chris Johnson seems like the better option between him and Haddadi if it comes down to going to China for a big, but only because his free throw shooting isn't utterly putrid.

I still fantasize about the Suns buying out Okafor though. That would be the best case scenario.

They probably waived him so he could sign with an NBA team, it's a favor to him.

I wouldn't mind signing him, personally I would have preferred him to Turkoglu. He can be a headcase, but not in the sense of not wanting to play. He has a temper, reminds me of Kmart. I think Atlanta will be signing him quickly, I hope we can sneak him away with the temptation of getting more attention on a bigger market.

This and also his team isn't a real title contender, so maybe they made a deal to get out of paying him a little or he might even had a buyout written into his contract.

They immediately signed Mike Harris from Jazz to replace him as one of their two American players they are allowed. They love rugged undersized PFs in that league.

per 36 min Hollins

10ppg, 1.9 blocks, 6.4 reb, .689 FG%.

BUT 2.4 TO and 6.6 PF

Those aren't bad numbers and he's been playing better lately

I agree with @toohipcliptoslip, Hollins isn't really that bad. He should be our 3rd string center, not our 3rd big man off the bench though. I think the difference between him and Mullens makes Hollins look good too. In Byron's two minutes last night, I thought I missed something and DJ was hurt. I was ready to turn the tv off. My issue with Hollins is he makes a lot of those little mistakes that use to drive us nuts with DJ before.

So I say I will take Hollins over Mullens, but would like a better option over both.

Here is the story on Ivan. ESPN says he's likely to sign for minimum and that Clippers are interested! I'm all for this as his PER was 15.8 last year in NBA.

"Ivan Johnson free to sign NBA deal

January, 23, 2014

Forward Ivan Johnson decided to play in China this season instead of signing with an NBA team after none would match his asking price. Last week there was a report that several NBA teams have interest in talking to him once his season is over with Zhejiang Chouzhou Golden Bulls in February. Well, they don't have to wait as he was released by the Chinese team on Wednesday, according to Chris Vivlamore of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution:.

Previously Vivlamore reported the Hawks could re-sign the forward and that the Bulls, Knicks, Pacers and Clippers my have interest now after targeting him in the summer.

Johnson should be easy to sign as he will likely accept a rest-of-season, minimum contract."

http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/6534/ivan-johnson Ivan's PER = 15.8

http://espn.go.com/nba/team/stats/_/nam ... s-clippers = Current team not a single big off the bench has a PER of even 10

Ivan Johnson would fit in perfectly off the bench. He fights for rebounds and plays tough defense.Man I hope Doc tries to sign him.If Ivan signs somewhere else then I would also give a look at Malcolm Thomas who was just waived by the Spurs.

I would take a look at Dashawn Stevenson. This is only because we are bringing in Vucevic. Why not bring a guy known for defense, that has a serviceable yet inconsistent shot. At least you know he will do all the other things. As we have seen shot comes and goes. Defense, rebounding, passing, and effort seem to be more of a consistent thing.

I'm ready to bring Ike Diougu at this point.

Speaking of old washed up players, look who will be available soon and actually despite being ancient would be useful:

Yes, the man himself, Marcus Camby, 39 years old and still going. He can be our P.J. Brown.

Down. I think he's still smart enough to know how to rotate on defense without fouling cough cough Hollins

Camby could kind of play defense last year, but he was just beyond terrible on offense, 32% on 2 point shots and 42% from the line and a high turnover rate, ugh.

I don't mind the missed shots that much, but the turnovers were a bit excessive. He does rebound and can still defend in limited minutes and could even teach DJ a thing or two

Camby ?...... he will just play for 5 games and back to the bench for 3 months because of injury, we don't need a lot of veterans, we already have, we need a younger legs who can play until the end of the playoff and hopefully for the finals.

He has been considered the best or at least one of the best players in Europe the last few years, but he's not available, the Bulls have his rights. He's expected to come over and be a good player fairly quickly like Splitter, Scola or Ginobili.

I would like Camby as a player development coach. It seems he has a good relationship with the guys, and could really help DJ take another step.

I still like Teodosic more than Mirotic. He's like a better Ricky Rubio, because he can shoot from anywhere.
