They have really set themselves up well:

    1) Sign Baron
    2) Get Camby for nothing
    3) Still have some cap space left to use on (Ross,Davis,Livingston, etc)
    4) Still have MLE to use once they hit the cap
    5) Have bi-annual exception to use once they hit the cap
    6) Retain Mobley's and Thomas' contracts that are incredibly valuable, since they expire in 2010 (those can be used for future trades or even allow them to walk in 2010 and have $16 mil plus to spend in Free Agency)

Basically, they replaced Elton/ Maggette with Baron/ Camby.... incredible upgrade of talent!

Plus the future looks incredible for future trades or Free Agents!

Get excited Clippers fans, this is the best roster we have EVER had!

Good call on Camby. You were the first to suggest it and you were right. Well done.

I'm not sold on getting a 12 year veteran. If we can trade Camby for someone slightly more expensive+younger (thus using our remaining salary) we would look even better. but we have to wait 30 days for something like that.

By the way Camby's contract expires in 2010... Clips will have $24 mil in cap space in 2010! Dunleavy, Elgin and Roesser are brilliant together!

From espn.com "But the offseason of 2010 is not just the Summer of LeBron: It's also the Summer of Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Amare Stoudemire, Ray Allen, Tyson Chandler, Manu Ginobili, Richard Jefferson, Joe Johnson, Tracy McGrady, Yao Ming, Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki and Michael Redd, each of whom can become an unrestricted free agent in 2010"

It'd be nice to use some of the upcoming cap space to ink Thornton to a long term deal (provided he plays awesome, which he should).

Would love to see Clips in 2010 get Bosh or Stoudamire with their CAP space

    PG Baron
    SG Gordon
    SF Thornton
    PF Bosh/ Amare
    C Kaman

he'll probably get an extension before he gets to the RFA market because we all know what a nightmare that is(teams driving up the price, players not happy that teams choose just to match offers rather than make an offer themselves etc.)!...

i must say, dunleavy maybe my new hero... the more i think about it, the more impressed i am with his actions this offseason. when have you ever seen a nba coach fly around the country courting free agents and working deals left and right the way he has. this guy is the friggin coach lets not forget!! and the way he fought back and told it like it is after the brand debacle was amazing.... i mean this guy stood up and almost single handedly said "im not going to let this brand situation be the end of this team, or let this hurt the image of this franchise".... lets not forget we are the clippers, and NOONE has ever stepped up for us like that. i know he has made some mistakes( d.ewing sub, and yoroslev to name a couple), but this guy has proven to me atleast, that hes as big a clipper FAN as anybody on this board.
    so thanks MD

I agree about Coach D...it was very very impressive how he fought back on the radio for our team after the brand debacle...and he didn't sit around sulking, but moved on in excellent fashion by getting camby...

still hurts on what could've been, but we still got Baron, who may step it up even more so without brand...this chemistry might work better now than it might've with Brand..u never know....

and let's not forget: Brand was never a leader and never will be...he never lead us to a winning season during his tenure here...the one season we won, we had to rent-a-leader: sam cassell....Baron is a Leader, with a Captial "L"!!

I have to agree with Teamfiend. Dunleavy has made some mistakes in the past, but he's really shown all of us what it takes to coach/run/be the braintrust of an NBA franchise. Its refreshing to everyday go to espn/hoopshype/clippers topbuzz/hoopsworld and see the Clippers involved in almost every free agency rumor and executing on many of them. So far, the summers gone like this: We got Baron, EB left us, Coach called Brand out on being a lying douscherocket, they were on the recieving end of one of the most lop-sided trades ever( camby), then they used what cap they have left to sign an offer sheet to Buke ( who happens to dunk like madness and has amazing potential). and this was all in about 1 week. I dont know about you guys, but im so used to every summer seeing the Clipps organization doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. But not this summer. They are making so many moves im having trouble keeping up. Even if we dont win, kudos to Dunleavy and Sterling for at least making the best of a bad (brand) situation and giving the fans an exciting team they can be proud of. And it looks like they might even make more noise. Whatever happens, thanks Mike D.

I'm with you... sign a bunch of rookies from the D-league who will play for pennies and you're all set.
