I think it's pretty evident that the Clippers will not make the playoffs this season if they stand pat. Everyone is hoping that the team can push a button and return to last season's form...but, with only 28 more games left, we should be able to see that that's just not going to happen. I was at the game tonight against the Suns and noticed that Elgin Baylor left his seat at halftime and didn't return. We can only hope that he's working the phones to make a move and, hopefully, save the season.

Most of you know my opinion that the Clippers will regret not making the Iverson trade. I think pairing Iverson with an unselfish big man like Brand would have been great. However, it didn't happen.

I also endorsed the Artest trade. While some think he's a bad influence and possible a poison to a team, I would have taken a chance. His defense and toughness would have been great for this team. However, it didn't happen and, with Artest playing better, it's unlikely to happen.

So...if I was Baylor for a day this is what I'd do. Get Vince Carter. The Nets are possibly on the verge of getting rid of Kidd and Carter so let's see what we can do. I'd actually propose a three way deal that looks like this and works with the salaries involved.

Clippers get: Vince Carter

New Jersey gets: Corey Maggette, Rebracca's expiring contract, and James Posey's expiring contract

Miami gets: Sam Cassell

Why do this? Well, the Clippers need to take a chance and do somthing. Bringing in Carter would be a risk, but it would give them a superstar. A possible negative would be that Carter can opt out after this season...so we may just be renting him for the final 28 games. However, he may not opt out and then the team has him for another season. If he does opt out, the Clippers can try a sign and trade with the team Carter wants to go to. Or...the Clippers have about $15 million in cap space from Carter's contract to try to make a play for Rashard Lewis, who might opt out of his Seattle contract. Yeah, it's a chance...but I'd rather take a risk like this than just sit back like we've been doing all season waiting for this team to rediscover itself. Plus, chemistry issues say that Maggette has to go since Dumbleavy is staying. As far as Cassell goes, how much more are the Clippers going to get from him? He's going to be 38 next year. If the Clippers are going to give Livingston the reigns, then do it now and let's see what we got. I'm not a big believer in Livingston, but hopefully he proves me wrong. Maybe with Cassell gone, he'd be forced to step into the role that the team envisions him in.

Why would New Jersey do it? Just because they risk getting nothing for Carter if he decides to walk. Instead, they get Maggette and almost $10 million in expiring contracts. And if the Nets do trade Kidd, then they'll be more willing to get rid of Carter. Plus, if they trade Kidd to the Lakers, the Clippers better do something to keep up with their Staples roommates.

As far as Miami, I think they'd welcome the veteran Cassell and his name has been talked about in the Miami papers. If Miami isn't a willing partner, then maybe the Cavs could be the third team because they have a big need for a point guard.

Like I said, this is all in my "Baylor for a day" scenario. I haven't heard anything like it, other than the Clippers had talks at some point about Carter. But it is something that I'd be willing to do if I were the Clippers.

As much as I'd hate seeing Sam go at this point I think this would be a good trade- but only if the Clippers can get a guarantee from Carter that he won't opt out at the end of the season. Vince could instantly rejuvenate the team and provide some big time help to sputtering offense. I wonder if Baylor leaving at halftime had anything to do with Sam sitting out the 2nd half? Hmmmm?

Reportedly, the Nets are talking with the Clippers about a package that would include 6-foot-7 guard Shaun Livingston. But two sources denied that Tuesday night. Earlier this season, the Nets were unwilling to trade Carter to the Clippers for Cuttino Mobley and Corey Maggette. Seattle is a possibility for Carter. -- Bergen Record

I hope we dont trade livingston for Carter. I think Carter would bolt after a year if we did end up with him, he isnt the player we need. I think kidd would be better if we were to trade livingston.

And what happens when Carter leaves after this year? His family lives on the East Coast and im sure he will move back to a team over there to be near them. Shaun (21) is still young, at 33 Carter doesnt have many years left in the tank. Cassell has even less, one more at the most after this year. After hes gone/when hes hurt (half the time) who is going to play the point? I think we should give Shaun a little more time to develop before we give up on him for an aging Vince Carter when we dont even know if he would still be with the team next year.

WOW, listen to us.....we sound like Clipper fans of yester year!!!

Typical CLIPPER management letting star players slip through there fingers.

Wow, only 28 games left???? I am predicting a 10-18 record.

But going back to the topic at hand. I am confused as to why Miami would want Cassell being that they already have aging Gary Payton?

Sam only has 1year left, and I am assuming that it is to help nurture Livingston into being a premier point guard.

Truthfully I don't think he is going anywhere. But I do feel that Singleton and Maggette don't want to stick around.

We can rid of Korolev and Rebraca, but that leaves us with...........

Thomas, the aging Mobley, Ewing, and Kaman.

What are we to do with them. Sounds like we are waking the ghosts from the past

If I were the Clippers there's no way I'd put Livingston as part of this Vince Carter deal unless we're getting Marcus Williams in return. And again no way the Clippers should pull the trigger unless Carter puts in writing that he's not going to opt out.

I really dont think Carter would stay, if he was to agree to stay for more than next year and we got Marcus Williams then i think it would be worth considering. Making the trade without that would just be putting all of our eggs in one basket, setting us up to lose Corey and Shaun for nothing. Why are there Clipper bashers on this board... paper clips... you must be one of those "fans" I see at the games wearing their Clipper jerseys and booing our team. Stand by your team, win or lose.

You need to have a little long term vision when thinking about trades too. Sure Cassell, Carter, and Brand would be a good squad this year, but Sam isnt going to hold up much longer, and when hes gone we wont have a point guard without Livingston. Then with all the money Carter is getting we wont be able to afford to sign another quality point. Thats if he even stays...

Repped High Quality Post

It's written by me: any trade for Vince Carter that involves Shaun is a bum deal. The only way I'd see a green light go up is if Marcus Williams were involved in the deal.

Assuming Carter does stay with the team, who's going to take the point once Sam leaves? Having a talented point guard is difficult to come by. There may even be more of a shortage of bonafide point guards than there are centers in this league. Even not, looking at how the NBA is played today, point guards are worth at least twice as much on the court. For evidence, just look at the two best teams in the league: the Suns and the Mavs. What happens if you remove a point guard? What happens when you remove a center?

Anyways, think of the long term. Where will the Clippers be next year? Where will they be in two years? Will Carter's ability to NOT play defense hamper the team? Does he fit into Dunlevy's system? Will Carter continue to take ill-advised shots and not preform in the clutch prevent the Clippers from making any sort of a run to the championships?

Edit: I don't like the idea of trading Sam Cassell away. After all he did for us last year and to the Clipper organization and team? Sure he has some down games, but they are greatly outweighed by the number of superb games he played. You can't blame the failings of the team on Cassell (unless you count being injured a failing), if anything the team needs to seek his guidance now more than ever.

Seasonticketholder10- please refrain from calling other people on the board names....

You keep knocking Shaun Livingston's stats- true he hasn't exactly put up great #'s, but they're not bad either. 9 points, 5 assists, 1 steal in 30 minutes, but with his competitiveness and work ethic it's hard not to see him keep improving. He's also shooting 46%- that's the 3rd highest FG% for any Clipper who plays regularly. In fact if he just improves by let's say 15%, he'd be averaging 11 points and 6 assists- not too shabby for 30 minutes. If you extrapolate that out to ~38 minutes, he'd be a 14 and 8 guy who plays solid D.

=]] Seasonticketholder10... is the name calling necessary. Maybe you shouldnt have wasted all your money on season tickets and used it to go to school, fix that grammar a little bit... seeing as you were probably out there booing anyway. So what you suggest is dumping half our players in order to keep Carter... I'm sure that will turn out fine. You think that buying out Cassell will help too? Then whos going to play the point? Without a quality point guard you cant have a great team. You just have a middle of the pack team, a team thats going to be a mid to late playoff seed every year. Not good enough to compete for a ring but just good enough to stay out of the lotery.

Carter, Brand, and Cassell would be a good squad. But thats about it, not a championship squad, just a good one. Carter isnt the player to get us over the hump.

if i booed ...i would probably have 3-4 clippers players turn around looking at me saying what the hell are you doing.......1st,,,....2nd the grammar wasnt that bad....and here's another stat for you.....from all the hard work and dedication you put toward school and work .....I WILL STILL HAVE MORE MONEY..... so i say ,,who needs to know that much grammer when you drive S500 at the age of 22 .....have one of the nicest houses in L.A and TAHOE and ITALY and PARIS some more but you get it .....and ACTULLY be apart of clipper nation.....for 11 seaasons.....plus im israeli soooooo english isnt my first language

so shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ,,,,, on that part ,,

and i disagree ,,,,,,,i think carter will put us over the hump ...cause he's an outside threat......he's a explosive threat ......he's that SUPERSTAR we need to put along side BRAND.....SO absolutly a championship team there...

your right dumping half of our players .....cause singleton and ewing...are doing so welll noww....lets not forget yoraslav contributions on the court against phoenix .....and aron williams too,......

so what you do is show him the money ....bring in complement players for them.....singleton only makes around 6k ....so you can keep him....but he wouldnt stay.....but you get my drift......

and its actullly .......BRAND.......VINCE.......SAM.......CAT.....KAMMAN....AS A STARTING 5 .........ROSS.....THOMAS......DAVIS WHOS A GOOD PLAYER IF PLAYS....AND IM PRETTY SURE IF THAT DEAL WENT DOWN MARCUS WOULD BE INVOVLED IN IT ,..........BUT ITS ALSO DEPENDS WHAT THEY DO WITH KID.....AND KNOWW WE ALREADY PROPOSED A TRADE OF CAT..MAGGETE,,,,FOR JUST VINCE.....IF LIVINGSTON INVOVLED MARCUS IS A CLIPPER....

and if i misspelled anything ......go cry about it ... Smile

SEASON-TICKET-HOLDER- Wow, you've become popular for all the wrong reasons!!

But we feel your frustration!!

I admit that I am a Clipper fan that wears my Clipper jersey at the games, and boos.

Regardless of win or lose, I am sure that WE ALL EXPECTED MORE this season, and it's just frustration mounting up.

Especially when the Clippers 20 losses out of the 29 have been blow outs by more than 10 points.

When we lose, we don't just lose, we quit. We are uninspired

On top of that, we missed out on Iverson, we are signing people like Alvin Williams, Doug Christie, VON WAFER, are you kidding me.

I would not do the trade for Carter unless he it was a guarantee that he stays another year.

I sure as hek hope that something happens today, so we can all go back to being fans. The frustration will continue if all we have to show after the trading deadline, is Von Wafer signed to a 10 day contract. The fans will be frustrated and the locker room will be frustrated. Maggette will go into a funk. Dumleavy will lose some more hair. And Season Ticket Holder will have to check into rehab. For me, I will have a hard time finding something to cheer about. And we will all find solace in being a lottery pick team once again. Hope springs eternal.

Wow, with all that money you claim to have, how are you so insecure? This board is to talk about the Clippers, not brag about how rich we are... or claim to be.

I think were all frustrated about how bad the team is playing, but we really shouldnt boo at the games. I have NEVER booed at a game, no matter how frustrated I am with the team. They need our support.

Hopefully we can pull off a smaller trade before the deadline and get someone who can give us a spark. Something like the trade for Vlad last season. It doesnt look likely though with the trade deadline so close.

Turn out the lights, the trade deadline party is over. The Clips stand pat. Unless there is a trade that is going to be announced in a delayed fashion. In fact, the trade deadline was a bust for almost every team and none of the big name players were moved.

Am I the only one who's actually glad that the Clippers stayed pat now that the trade deadline has passed? I'm serious. ;) By not trading Maggette or Cassell or Mobley or ect. before the trade deadline, it virtually guarantees that the Clippers will receive much better offers in June. Especially if you wait until after the draft lottery occurs (or before if the Clippers want to sign away their picks). Remember, even one of the best GMs in the league, Jerry West, refrained from pulling the gun today. Once other teams figure out that they can't....

Well, I guess we can all stop talking about what the Clippers should do, as far as trades. In regards to what they may have had the opportunity to do this season, I would have done these deals in this order.

1) Iverson for Maggette and Livingston - It's not often that a team has the chance to get a legitimate superstar, especially for an unhappy player and a player that may or may not turn out to be special...and I have serious doubts about Livingston.

2) Artest for Maggette - Again we get rid of an unhappy player and get a player, while a risk, who could play like a star. Plus, it shakes the team up earlier in the season when the Clipper's struggles were evident.

3) Carter and Williams for Maggette and Livingston - I can see Williams being every bit as good as Livingston. Getting rid of Maggette would likely improve team chemistry and getting Carter would give the Clippers a legitimate all-star. And if Carter bolted after the season, the team would have tons of cap room to try to sign a guy like Rashard Lewis, whol is likely to opt out.

But all that is for naught now that the deadline has passed. No changes were made and there's no reason to think that the Clippers will start to play any better than they have played in the 54 prior games. Believe me, I hope, like all Clipper fans out there, that something clicks but I don't have any reason to believe that that's going to happen.

If the Clippers don't make the playoffs this year, then everything that was gained last year is lost. The team was gaining respect, not only in Los Angeles, but across the nation. They had finished above the Lakers for two years in a row. They've been on national television much more this season than in the past. But without a follow-up appearance in the playoffs this year, that will all change. One good year will not be enough to stop the jokes, the "paper-Clip" references, and the general lack of respect that the team has "earned".

It's unfortunate, because with the Lakers recent struggles, the Clippers could have put together a string on that recent road trip in which they could have overtaken the Lakers. Instead, the team looks more likely to end up in the familiar territory of the lottery than the playoffs. It's sad for all us "hardworking, supportive, blue-collar" Clipper fans that the team is looking up at the "spoiled, bandwagoning, attention-crazy" Laker fans.

Preaching patience is getting old. Clipper fans have been waiting too long to get a team that is competitive year end and year out. Waiting for draft picks like Danny Manning, Charles Smith, Gary Grant, Reggie Williams, and Shaun Livingston to lead us to the promised land is wearing. The waiting game needs to end!

Now that Seasonticket10 is gone, there's room for one more! Regarding Livingston, my jury is still out on him but I'm hopeful. But the key is that several GMs covet him. If the other team's "talent evaluators" demand that he be included in any major deal, then Dunleavy & Baylor aren't the only ones enamored of him. I know I'm not as good a talent evaluator as the other GMs (duh!) so I trust the "market forces" which say that many believe he has sufficient skill and potential. Benoit_Benjamin, Of all the possible choices you offered, the only one I'd take is #2 - Maggette for Artest straight up. Artest isn't a guard so he wouldn't fill the Clippers shooting guard needs, but with Ross and Artest on the floor at once -- suddenly you have a much more defensive minded team. Of course there are so many other variables with a player like Artest you have to consider... For trade #3, of all the trade rumors I've read, Marcus Williams wasn't mentioned. If it had been, we at least have a solid future point guard in....
