http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3556108 The Golden State Warriors won't have Baron Davis or Monta Ellis in their starting lineup on opening night. In the latest blow during a difficult summer for Golden State, ESPN.com has learned that Ellis -- just awarded one of the biggest pay raises in league history -- will be sidelined at least three months, possibly four, after suffering a severe high ankle sprain in his hometown of Jackson, Miss. Ellis Ellis was scheduled to undergo surgery on his left ankle in Alabama on Wednesday, according to team sources, after he informed the club late last week that he had injured himself working out.....

Here's the article.

With Ellis down for a possibly four months, it definitely opens the door for another team to take their place in the standings. Williams will most likely get the bulk of the minutes at PG. Also with losing such a key player for their team, it will undoubtedly set them back a lot. They may not be able to recover if they record is horrible until he comes back.

This must be really tough for the Warriors and their fans. It is ironic though they were all saying how Baron's injury prone, etc, but I guess they turned a blind eye to Monta's injury-ridden past.

BTW moved to the NBA Forum.

They might still be alright. They've stockpiled wing players, and will have Marcus Williams at PG. They're a little less deep and less explosive now, but can still put a high octane offense on the floor. Depth at PG will be a serious issue though.

I'm not sure about Karma on Monta.

Even as a Clipper fan I'm sorry to see this young gun go down for the 3-4 month period. He was explosive and liked his future in the league.

This will hurt the Warriors no other player on their team can ball like Monta can he is a gem.

Stock piling forwards with out guards limits your run and gun offense for sure. It will be interesting to see if they bring someone else in or who is Williams back up. Either way they have problems now. We have to wait and see how they handle it.

Looks like the Warriors are checking out Livi

"A possibility for the Warriors could be Shaun Livingston, who Mullin said the Warriors will watch work out on Thursday. Livingston has recovered from his devastating leg injuries and is fully participating in basketball activities at Tim Grover's facility in Chicago. Livingston is said to be looking for a guaranteed deal which the Warriors could theoretically give him if they waive either Watson or Summer League shooting sensation Anthony Morrow.

Mullin admitted that he likes Livingston's game and said the workout was scheduled long before news of Ellis' injury. However, Mullin cautioned that the Warriors won't rush into any decision, saying "the one thing we won't do is panic or do something knee-jerk.""

They gotta fill the void somehow with a bandaid until Ellis comes back. It may be possibly longer then expected. Hoopsworld said it was a high ankle sprain. Those usually take longer to heal then other sprains. I don't think Livi is ready to play that much, but if they take a chance, who knows. He also wants a guaranteed deal, while he plays with one good knee. I think he's asking a lot from any team.
