Kaman, Mobley Trade Talk

Now that Marcus Camby (double-figure rebounding last two games) is nearing full strength, the 1-6 Clippers are open to a rational market trade for Chris Kaman who has battened down their middle for five seasons and is owed $43 million over four seasons.

Sources say Charlotte has no one of consequence Los Angeles desires. Gerald Wallace has no appeal. Mike Dunleavy has been there, done that with Corey Maggette, and solemnly swears by Al Thornton. Therefore, the search is on for a team prepared to deal an extraneous or unwanted macho forward to augment Camby; moving Cutino Mobley ($8.9M/$9.5M) in the process or in a side deal would be cause for great celebration by the Staples Center's stepchild.

The backup plan is to pursue lesser lights like the Nets' Sean Williams. Judging by the 6-10 sophomore's lack of daylight, he's someone the Nets feel they can do nicely without. -- New York Post

Not sure how to take that, it is the NY post after all. The biggest gossip ( a la National Inquirer) tabloid journalism mag out there.

I don't think Dunleavy is shopping Kaman but you never know about Mobley though. I have been saying we lack a legit PF that can play both ends of the court.

Yeah,,although new to this board I am a member of a Dodgers board too. All year we read nonsense the Post prints and none of it ever comes true, except the stuff they write after it happens.

I think Sean WIlliams would be a huge pickup for the clips! Exactly the player we need to backup Kaman and Camby

Not credible. Dunleavy wouldn't toss Kaman, especially after he's been playing the last few games

Sean Williams would be kinda cool. He hasn't played much so not sure what kind of upside he has. I would not trade Kaman though. As someone else stated we have him under contract for like 3-4 years (not exactly sure how long) and he's a legit center. Mobley would be nice to have as a 2nd unit but wouldn't mind trading him for someone. Rather trade Ricky lol. He's been quite useless thus far.

That's actually the whole post.

I doubt Kaman will be traded (at least not soon.) However if he is, traded, who do you think Dunleavy has in mind to bring in?

I can't think of very many Back-To-The-Basket big men, then again, I'm not even sure if Dunleavy wants to trade for a big.

Who's been on the trading block lately that's the same price as Kaman?

According to a report in the New York Post, the Clippers are interested in trading Chris Kaman.

The Bobcats have been active in trade talks to upgrade their club and are reportedly interested.

Sources say, however, that Charlotte has no one of consequence Mike Dunleavy desires.

The teams are believed to be looking for a third team to get involved.

Hey NUMB3RFIFTY, I merged your thread on this one since it was started first and is of the same source. I sent you a heads up (PM) just out of courteousness. wink

The only player from the Bobcats I'd like to trade for is Gerald Wallace and I still would'nt trade Kaman for him... Maybe we'd get the player(s) from the third team, but again, it is the New York Post... not really one of those "reputable" newspapers.

We'd have to get another center if we traded Chris....I still can't see this being done. Camby is only around for this year and is getting up there in age. Jordan is still very raw. Paul Davis is kinda big but not long and can't handle center very well....There's just not way we trade Kaman without getting a legit big in return.

And seriously why even trade Chris. I don't think we'd get another big man in return of equal value.

i have a lot of trouble buying that - it reads to me like the opinion of an outsider - i don't think anyone in the Clipper org talks to Vecsey - my guess is one of his sources has it wrong - but anything is possible.

Especially with Camby's health issues, it would be pretty illogical

It would seem kind of odd for us to be involved in a trade, especially with a front-line player when we are just starting to hit some kind of stride. These guys have barely gotten to know each other and now there's the prospect of one of them leaving? Considering the Post's rep, it seems unlikely. But then stranger things have happened, the NBA is a business, you don't pass up the opportunity to improve your team on or off the court... blah, blah, blah. I like the team as is. I like the balance of youth and experience. We are reasonably athletic as far as the bigs go, pretty athletic really. RDavis can run and Thronton is near freakish. Baron is certainly physical, Taylor is cat-quick and Mobley and Gordon balance nicely youth and experience. Our bench play is improving, with Skinner, Davis and Hart are dependable if not spectacular. We've even got a three point specialist. We're tall where we need to be, strong-ish in the same places, fairly quick on the perimeter, not too old, not too young... balanced. I don't know, maybe we could use some help somewhere, but not at the expense of one of our front line people. I'd hate to see them start the learning process again.

i just threw up a little in my mouth.

why on earth would we trade kaman for some "macho" forward to compliment camby. kaman's not complimenting camby, camby's complimenting kaman. the nerve.

for as much as everyone hates on the guy, chris is the 2nd most important person on this team. if we deal kaman, im gonna go on silent terms with the clippers. Mad

that's my boy.

F that. i know its the NY Post and they're a bucket of sleaze and rumors, but just the mere fact that this is being brought up gets me pissed.

More changes? Who needs more changes in our roster now?? Our team is growing after changing more than half roster so right now it's not time to be distracted talking about trades...It's time to win with the players we have and be focused in our work: it means to win games. This kind of rumors doesn't help teams chemistry.

I guess you can argue that in this particular case perhaps - the Clippers might have seen an opportunity to get a more dependable low post scorer without giving up the rebounds in Zach - we know they tried to get him over the summer. Maybe Kaman is available for Randolph or another 20-10 guy - but it still feels like a stretch.

I'd go for a Camby and Mobley for Randolph and Crawford deal. We'd get much better now, but would lose lots of our cap space in 2010. Are starting lineup would have so many scorers.

I could really care less about 2010 though. The chances of us signing a superstar are slim to none. Most of the guys will just stay home and make a ton of money.

eh, I dunno..sounds kinda blahhhhh. I dont think Kaman needs to go. I agree w/ my man ekker3 "kaman's not complimenting camby, camby's complimenting kaman. the nerve."

Good way to put it.

None the less, lets see how this plays out.

disagree, we'd be 50 times worse.

it works in video games, but having a lineup full of scorers and bad defenders leads to ...well.. the new york knicks.

my god, crawford and randolph alone demand somewhere around 60 shots a game!

The Knicks don't look that bad right now. They beat Utah the other night and that's something that we failed to do twice.

While Dunleavy may not be the best coach, it's up to the players to run. You can hear him screaming during games for the guys to run. If our players aren't running, it's not Dunleavy's problem right now. He wants the guys to run.

musy101, i agree that our team right now is very solid. i am also happy with it and dont think we should be doing anything to major at this point while the players figure each other out. having that said, you always have to look for ways to better your team.

In the L.A. Times wednesday sports section Dunleavy denies looking to trade Kaman. He did get an offer by the bobcats but said no deal. It sounds like the post has completely lied about this one.

What in the name of George Mikan are they talking about? Chris shot over Yao Ming and played a great game. Who would be better that we could get? As far as our team, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
