Thanks JayR, that's pretty crazy as I double checked everything right before I sent it. This trade officially convinces me that Dunleavy is completely out of touch with today's athlete and the game. The quote below shows me Mike Dunleavy knows nothing about the player he just aquired.

"But Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy is believed to be hoping to convince Randolph he can get productive minutes and shots in a sixth man role."

I live in New York City and I usually watch the Knicks play almost every night. This guy has no concept of team, whines everytime he comes out of the game and needs the ball to be happy. It's really pathetic to be honest with you. But what bothers me even more is that Dunleavy thinks he can change this. Go back in the history of the NBA and find me one player who was a bad apple, who, in switching teams, changed the type of guy he was? It doesn't happen, and now Dunleavy has just thrown away the 2010 free agent pool to aquire a guy that he "HOPES" to change. That's stupid.

It looks like Randolph is coming off the bench.

Based on what?

The trade sends Randolph, New York's leading scorer (20.5 ppg) and rebounder (12.5 ppg), west to the Clippers, who have been trying to acquire him from New York for several months and who have had a terrible time scoring points during a surprisingly poor 2-9 start. It creates a bit of a logjam in the frontcourt, with Marcus Camby already starting at power forward and Chris Kaman the incumbent center. But Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy is believed to be hoping to convince Randolph he can get productive minutes and shots in a sixth man role.

Is it possible to officially announce this trade tomorrow or late tonight, so that we can still use cat and tt and be more competitive tonight?

Or does this mean that we will be short players for today's game vs. Philly?

Jouney great post....I feel the same way.Unfortunately for a player like him he is already making 14 mill.If he were to come here hoping to get a new start I may feel different. But since he is already making money now its kind of like he does not want to learn to become a teammate..

More on the Randolph trade

By Ramona Shelburne on November 21, 2008 1:52 PM | Permalink | Comments (0) | ShareThis

Just got off the phone with Zach Randolph's agent Raymond Brothers.

Brothers said he hadn't spoken with Randolph about his trade to the Clippers yet, but anticipated that Randolph would be ``fine with it'' and excited to come to Los Angeles.

As for some of the character issues that have followed Randolph from earlier in his career, Brothers said, ``I've always told people that Zach came out of Michigan State when he was 18 years old. But now he's grown up and he's fine.

``Zach is a competitor, he's already proven himself as a basketball player. I think now his main focus is to win. I think he's definitely going to help the Clippers.''

Ramona also thinks this is going to be a fluid move.

Dunleavy's good at convincing people to come here, and getting people excited to play in LA. I think this move can help us now, even though our 2010 sweepstakes are diminishing.

Ugh. Sorry guys, that's just my initial reaction. Zach has never exactly been known as a "chemistry" guy, and has dealt with the selfish label throughout his career. Look, when a guy averages near 20 and 10 and yet makes regular appearences on the trading block then you have to freakin' wonder. Geez, first Ricky, now Zach? What are we, the basketball equivalent of the Raiders? *deep breath* Ok. If it's done, it's done. So great, welcome Zach. I hope that the Clippers are the team that you've been destined for, and that ultimately you find the home you've been looking for here. And I hope that... that... F**K it! Sorry, sorry. I can't even PRETEND to like this trade! I hope it works but I really gotta say I ain't happy! Since it's done I won't enumerate the long list of reasons... but damn! Just... damn! Ok, ok. It could work. Hey, stranger things have happened. I can't think of any right off... but I"m sure there are some! Damn!

wow. Randolph a Clipper?? Camby-Kaman-Randolph???WTF!!?? I think Randoph is a good player but having Camby-Kaman why the hell you want another big man??!!!A big man with such a big contract!!!I don't know how it can turn...

We needed something to shake the team. My first option was to fire Dunleavy but I must confess this trade really shake the team. Let's see what happens. It isn't very difficult to improve what we were doing since the season started so...

I agree with Miquel. But it's just that we've needed scoring- We're the 3rd worst at 90 ppg. Having someone like this off the bench can be great, especially having a PURE post player. Kaman can play post but he's more finesse. We need someone that is so powerful that he demands double teams, and I think Randolph can do that.

Guys, we've never seen Randolph with real, pure talent around him, so let's see how he takes this opportunity and what tune we will be humming in about a week or two.

If you bring Randolph you can't pretend to have him as a backup. Randolph is too good to come off the bench and if Dunleavy wants him as a 6th we'll have problems. No doubt about it. If you want to get from Randolph his best you must try to make him feel important...and it only can be playing as a starter.

Agreed.

Well then, Dunleavy has a GOOD problem on his hands.

3 starters for 2 positions, and all 3 are great in their ways. Camby's a defensive monster, Randolph is an offensive monster, and Kaman is a.. well.. monster from another planet!! I think depending on the game and situation, he can give them each the right amount of minutes for the style of play against the opposition.

Don't hate or love this trade until we see the real effects of it, and that's gameplay.

We can all look at his stats and feel awesome about the team, or look at his personality and feel horrible about the team. But until we see him in action, we can't judge.

I know Thomas is happy to be back with D'antoni. Watch him ball now, I liked Cat though hate to see him go. He was our best perimeter defender.

look at the bright side, he will learn from camby and kaman, meaning that he could get better. They only reason why Zach has been a selfish player is because of the teams he has been on, Portland wasn't good and Knicks werent good, builds a little frustration and you becaom selfish when your losing. Lets wait on this trade and give him a chance. I honestly rather have Zach more than Timmy anytime of the day.

I'm hoping Gordon can take that role, because I've seen flashes of it.

Now that he's getting more playing time, he's gona blossom.

Screw that. What about the good of the team?He should come off the bench, as we have two starters in our front court already.

i dont know what to say about this trade. Not because I loved Cat or that I loved Tim Thomas. It is player we are getting in return and the capspace that we have coveted. We do need a low post prescence. I would like to see how camby an Kaman adjust to their new roles.

I'm pretty sure that it'll be Kaman and Randolph starting. That seems to be a good fit. I really don't seem to think that Camby will have a problem coming off of the bench either. These are good problems to have anyways.

Maybe putting Ricky into the starting lineup will give him the change he needs to get going as well.

I am just happy that we still have Chris Kaman and that he was not traded for Zach Randolph. People talk about how Randolph should be a sixth man. We can have camby as a sixt man also? He is one of our highest paid players coming off the bench. The good thing about this is that Eric Gordon gets his time to shine and hopefully Ricky Davis finds his jumpshot.

Right now, I don't know what to think. This will either end up being a great trade or the worst thing to ever happen to this franchise. I'm taking a wait-and-see approach with this one, but I just don't have a good feeling about this, although I hope I'm wrong.

I imagine since the Clips are already going to be in metro NYC tomorrow night (and Philadelphia being only 90 miles and about an hour from East Rutherford), Randolph should pass the mandatory physical and be ready to go against the Nets. If not, it's definitely back at home Monday night against an underachieving New Orleans team.

Here is my gripe:

Mobley was a great piece of the puzzle. He worked his arse off this season...just came off a 7 steal game. He looked more determined to win than any other player on our roster with kaman just behind. You don't find players like that and Randolph isn't one of them. Now we have too many bigs and not enough experience in our back court..and least not anyone who is consistent ( Ricky). Gordon isn't ready yet so don't expect him to come out playing great.

That leaves us with a bigger problem. I don't care who we have on the bench but I am certain that player ( Randolph) isn't going to like it. With Skinner , Novak, Jordan, Davis sitting behind the 6th man, we become relegated to a grind out team again.

Dunleavy is trying to have his cake and eat it too...that isn't going to work...in my opinion.

Is this guy going mad with big men? I think he is going off the deep end.

P.S.

I hope I am wrong but something will eventually give.

I know everyone seems upset by Cuttino leaving but...

Cuttino was making the kind of salary that would make him the second option on this team and he was SO inconsistent. Then you have Tim Thomas who was a great locker room guy, but the biggest wastes of potential I have ever seen. BOTTOM LINE: We weren't going to win squat with our current line-up.

NOW: We have a first option - Baron

A second option - Zach

With third and fourth split between Kaman and Al.

This move works and I think we'll all find that Baron's and Camby's veteran leadership will have a great effect on Zach

Randolph looks to be in shape and ready to play. I'm excited to have him. Lets not for get that his problems were early in his career when he was young and immature.

I hope I wrong too. I dont see how this Randolph deals works for us. We have so many bigs on this team. Why trade for Camby in the first place when you already had your eyes on Randolph? D'antoni takes over the crapp NY Knicks team this offseason they are playing .500 ball and they are able to trade away their bad bad bad contracts in Randolph and Crawford. I dont know what Dunleavy is doing. I would have made a play for Dirk Nowitzki or another all star type player. If not grind it out. Can we still make a play for any free agents in 2010? cambys contract comes off the bookes but we have to resign Thornton, and worry about space for Eric Gordon and and Mike Taylor.

I think Thornton should be our first option, he's our leading scorer when you take Mobley out the mix that leaves Gordon and both Davis' where else is the scoring gonna come from in the backcourt. I know Mobley is not in the same form as he was in Houston but he was our ONLY veteran SG.

I think its a dumb move. Im sure there are plenty of other players we could have gotten for Mobley and Thomas but Dunleavy is in love with Randolph. If they were going to make this move they should have done it in this past offseason and just offered this deal and we could have gotten somebody else with the money we are paying Camby. Maybe Josh Smith.

I'm not sure how to take this. I would have rather taken David Lee than Randolph. I think we really needed to get someone with good leadership potential. And now its just going to take even longer to build chemistry! I guess time will tell.......

Most successful teams are built on the idea of "The Big Three".

SPURS - Ginobili, Parker, Duncan

LAKERS - Kobe, Pau, Odom (last year)

CELTICS - Garnett, Allen, Pierce

PISTONS (last couple years) - Sheed, Billups, Hamilton

They're all go-to guys, we didn't have any. Now we have Baron and Randolph which makes Kaman and Thornton much more dangerous. Our offense just got deadly

But our defense, which has been the problem all season, won't be helped with Ran_olph around. Hopefully his offensive production outweighs his defensive deficiencies.

Good point but we have 2 players playing the same position...in 2 combos.

Kaman & Camby

Camby & Randolph

It isn't about being deadly on offense, it is being deadly in trying to please all players. The concept is great but instituting it so everyone is happy is a whole different ball of wax. Look what happened to Ricky once he took the bench? Will the same happen to the unfortunate one that has to sit? Ricky is doing his best to please the team with horrible results on the court..will this be the case with Randolph or Camby? That remains to be seen...

wow, im glad kaman didnt get traded. it looks like the money is about the same except that mobley and thomas both expire in 2010. mobley is a tough defender who worked hard and thomas is lazy. i presume then that lebron is going to ny and the clips are out of the chris bosh sweepstakes. i wonder if dunleavy will work a trade for camby (who i hear is disgruntled) and how much of this has baron davis' fingerprints.
